Kevin 5 people, at least 4 from the des moines area, arrested in osceola on a Human Trafficking sting. All face prostitution charges. The arrests all made at an osceola business during the sting yesterday. Stacey an update on an illness that made 58 Roosevelt High School teachers and Staff Members sick. The Polk County Health department now says meat, served at a staff luncheon october 21st, was contaminated with a food borne bacterium. The Polk County Health Department Says it cant release who provided the meal, citing confidentiality. But hyvee released this statement late this afternoon saying Roosevelt High School , officials picked up cooked taco meat from our Windsor Heights store the morning of wednesday, october 21. Our internal review indicates that the taco meat was prepared and stored properly while at our store. As you know, we cant control how food is handled after it leaves our stores. Hyvee also says none of the employees handling the taco meat that day had been ill. From our ames bureau. A rash of burglaries in ames, and in some of the cases, residents were home at the time. These empty shelves used to be home to two tvs and an xbox. It angers all of us. Vanessa wyatt davis says he was sleeping when 3 men entered his apartment, where he lives with 3 other guys,. One of the men that was in our house came down into our room and turned our light on. Vanessa davis tells us he and his girlfriend woke up. First thing that i thought was just hopefully that they didnt they werent armed or anything. Vanessa the men got spooked and ran off. Daviss girlfriend ran upstairs and noticed some things were missing. Their apartment at 3825 Marigold Drive is one of the homes targeted in a rash of burglaries that happened over the Early Morning hours saturday and sunday of halloween weekend. The burglars probably assumed these people were out on welch avenue or the bars so they wouldnt be home at that time. Vanessa Ames Police Say the 5 apartments burglarized are located near campus and none of the victims locked their doors. Its a crime of opportunity where they go and they just get through apartment buildings they checked for doors that are unlocked. Vanessa police say this is a good reminder to lock your doors. As for davis, hes got keys with him all the time now. I guess we need to learn our vanessa one other victim woke up during the burglary and he saw five men take off in a white van. Ames Police Originally ruled lockmans death a suicide. Testimony will continue tomorrow. A man sentenced to life in prison for the murdering two Convenience Store clerks now facing an additional 25 years in prison for slashing the throat of another inmate. The Iowa Department of corrections say 21yearold Michael Swanson launched the attack last november. Swanson is already serving two life sentences for killings at two separate Convenience Store shootings in 2010. Swanson was 17 at the time. The family of a man shot and killed by a des moines officer this summer is suing the city. Ryan bolinger was shot by officer Vanessa Miller through her squad car window as he approached her car after a brief car chase. Mark tauscheck live at the Des Moines Police department. Mark in the lawsuit bolingers , family says the officer wasnt justified in use of deadly force and had several other options to apprehend the 28yearold man. She certainly would have had time to assess the situation before determining to kill him. Mark attorney Brett Beattie says the family of Ryan Bolinger believes officer Vanessa Miller was negligent and reckless in not taking proper steps to determine whether bolinger could be captured without being killed and whether or not he was armed. The familys lawsuit against the city of des moines also states the city provided negligent training and supervision concerning the use of deadly force against an unarmed he didnt run into cars, he didnt try to run over pedestrians, he didnt brandish weapons, he didnt throw anything out of his car, he didnt flash signs, he didnt speak threats. So to hold or state he posed a threat of killing another perons person is, in my view, quite frankly ridiculous. Mark the police chief karen des moines told me a few weeks ago that officer miller wasnt able to assess if the man had a weapon when he approached her squad car that night and she felt she was in danger. Mutchler stealing gas from parked vehicles early tuesday morning. When the homeowner confronted mutchler, the report says mutchler punched the homeowner. Officers arrested mutchler. City officials approved over 200 million in Building Permits this year alone. There has been a lot of new commercial development, a lot of new office development.
