Which crashed in ukraine back in july, killing all 298 people on board. Dutch officials leading an International Investigation into the crash released their findings. The report says the passenger plane was likely struck by multiple highenergy objects outside of the aircraft, suggesting that the jet probably broke up in the air. Investigators stop short of saying the plane was definitely hit by a missile, so the question of who could have fired such a missile has not been addressed. Many of the victims relatives are still searching for answers. Not a day goes by that she does not think about her two sons, killed on board flight mh 17. She says the exact cause of the crash does not matter to her. For me, it does not matter if it was shot down ors the fault of Malaysian Airlines. I blame Malaysian Airlines and also the other one who made the plane crash, of course. It cannot bring our children back here. But there are many who do want to know that the what happened. Experts say they do not have all the answers yet, but after analyzing flight data recorders, they have ruled out human or technical errors. Still, they have not explicitly cited rocket fire is the cause. Our most likely conclusion is that the plane was pierced by a number of objects, originating from outside the craft, which damaged the plane to such an extent that it broke up in the air. The boeing 777 took off from amsterdam on july 7, heading for the malaysian capital, kuala lumpur. Around three hours into the flight, air Traffic Control lost contact with the aircraft, and it came down in rebel held Eastern Ukraine. Both the u. S. And ukraine were quick to accuse prorussian rebels of shooting down the plane, but separatists and i military hardware. The reports authors have made a point not to speculate who may be responsible for downing the airplane. They themselves did not visit the crash site. The area is considered too dangerous. Here with us in the studio is an aviation expert who has been studying the findings of the Dutch Safety Board for us. Great to have you with us in person. We outlined some of the findings of this report. Can you clarify for us why the report refrains from saying that the plane was hit by a missile but then rules out Everything Else . The report is not assessing any blame on anybody. On the other hand, i think this is a delicate situation for the dutch, and they are trying to stay out of politics completely. I wonder why there is not more information about the data that they got from, for example, radar and the videotapes of other conversation there. We do not know whether they got material from the russian side or from the americans, so this is all in the shade here. Do you think any of that information will be forthcoming in the coming months for us . I think it is necessary that there is more transparency in the investigation into what brought down this airplane. I think that is something that the relatives of the victims deserve to know, and, of course, the public needs to know. We are running into a fullblown controversy here in the ukraine and probably military action, so i think the reasons should be laid out on the table. The report is going through great pains not to attribute any blame. Is there an ongoing criminal investigation that provides more answers . There is an ongoing criminal investigation. We do not know what the outcome will be. Thank you so much for your analysis. You are welcome. Meanwhile, a ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine appears to be holding despite reports of sporadic violence. Brussels has already prepared a raft of new sanctions that would hit russias industrial powerhouses the gas and oil industries. Eu defense ministers meeting in milan, italy, will discuss those sanctions and the possibility of supplying arms to kiev. Our correspondent is covering the nato defense ministers meeting in milan. While earlier, he told us about the role sanctions will be playing during these talks. The official line why the sanctions have not yet come into force is that the eu wants more time to observe the ceasefire and ukraine. On this meeting of defense ministers here, it became however clear that the opinions are quite diverse. Some ministers expressed that they are disappointed that the sanctions are not yet there. And fact, on the sidelines of this event, i talked to the Lithuanian Defense minister, and he confirmed that he strongly lobbied for the sanctions to come into force as fast as possible, but other ministers such as finland, for instance, raised concerns that fresh sanctions could stand in the way of a ceasefire. When asked whether his country actually asked for a postponement of sanctions, he denied that. So the eu, despite these different opinions, still wants to stand united on the issue. I think europe needs to be willing to spend more on defense, to deploy forces as it has been doing in afghanistan, and continue that in the future even beyond 2016. To make a credible threat of Major Economic punishment for russia. The president would be more assured of positive response if he knew ahead of time what our allies might be willing to do. The World Meteorological agency says Carbon Dioxide levels in the atmosphere reached a record high of last year. United nations posted get binding agreements from countries around the world to curb emissions. In the meantime, the point to changing weather patterns happening right now. Floodwaters in pakistan are currently threatening about 700 villages. The deluge has already destroyed vast stretches of farmland. On another continent in another country, the images are similar. Much of phoenix, arizona, a city in the desert, is also currently underwater. The World Meteorological organization in geneva is convinced climate is changing due to human influence. Weather conditions are becoming more extreme, and the United Nations is alarmed. The concentration of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere has decreased dramatically increased dramatically. Also concerning researchers, the growing acidity of the oceans. The acid levels are at their highest in over 300 million years. We ha to reay take uent action. Challenging it will be, the more expensive it will be, and at some point, the goal will no longer be achievable if we do not take action now. It is still possible, but it requires urgent action. Researchers say the increase in Carbon Dioxide concentration between 2012 and 2013 was the biggest annual jump in the last 30 years. So despite much discussion in recent years, little has been achieved to stem these worrying trends. Were going to shift our focus now to serbia, which is grappling with both a four year old civil war and the advancing of islamic militants we shift our focus now to syria. Israel hes have long considered syrian president Bashar Alassad their bitter foe, but now they worry about an even bigger threat, the islamic militants just across the border. These grapes arrive and need to be picked, but its a risky harvest this year. The situation in the north of the Israeli Occupied gallant heights is tense israel he occupied Israeli Occupied golan heights. Its no longer safe here. Rockets land here again and again. Then everything is shut off, but i do trust our army to keep everything under control. This vineyard is just a kalama from the serbian border a columnar a kilometer from the serbiyrian border. If we allow this to continue, the conflict will grow and get worse and worse. The soldiers and extremists over there should know that we will write back. We will fight back. We have the ability. We will not allow this region to become a second gaza. Or israel, the biggest problem at the moment is not syrias assad but the rise of islamist groups. They are debating whether it is al qaeda, i. S. Militants, or the him was refund on israels doorstep. It is also close and really quite frightening. You can almost see what is going on without the need for binoculars. They are just walking around. My gut feeling is that things could explode at any moment. It feels like the calm before the storm. Theres growing concern that violence could spill over from the civil war in serbia syria , especially after the attacks on the peacekeepers right here behind me in the buffer zone. Not long ago, fighters took control of the serious side and captured over 40 United Nations peacekeepers. The United Nations has come under sharp criticism because of this. Thisas been one of the quietest borders of israel since 1974. Inside, they have fully respected the ceasefire, and so have we. The peacekeeping forces actually did not have much to do. They were present, but they did not have much to do. What can one infer from the fact that those forces fled once they started hearing gunshots and actually were not fulfilling their mission those are complex lessons. People here say israel will need to depend on itself for security and to keep a wary eye out for any potential conflict, but observers say israel would not want to see another front open here in the north.
