And that had to be directed towards you and. And we started talking about it again because we had an e.f. 3 tornado right that that hit in a very populated area of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Yesterday not too far from today to those 2 days out actually not yet just to in fact I had to change the way that I came to work because I 35 there was debris all over the place and I just assumed it when I saw that it began I went oh boy but what what happened was the Dallas Cowboys were playing. The Philadelphia Eagles on the n.b.c. Affiliate here right that was a Sunday night n.b.c. Game. And when they knew that there was a tornado on the ground they didn't break from the Cowboys broadcast for 6 minutes . Yeah I don't I can't imagine I can't imagine one person I'm guessing one person was in charge of making the call ultimately will they apologize they put out this statement during Sunday night's telescope boys game we made the mistake of not immediately interrupting the football game with a tornado warning although our meteorologist were tracking thunderstorms across the area when the National Weather Service issued the tornado warning for Dallas County and we delayed breaking into programming for 6 minutes our meteorologists were also streaming live weather coverage of the evening on our site we alerted the football audience to our weather Lifestream throughout the game when it comes to dealing with severe weather we know that seconds matter we should have broken into football programming sooner we apologize and want you to know that we're doing everything in our power to make sure this does not happen again oh wow I mean when when you and anybody who lives in any area where there's been a you know in Tornado Alley anybody knows that once that once it's a tornado on the ground everything stops right if you're in broadcasting I don't care what format you're in everything stop Yes. And you go right to it there isn't even a question I keep this this is the thing that really boggles the mind if you're in the media I can guarantee you and I don't know any mere ologist over there but I can guarantee you every one of them was livid about this because they're not the ones in charge of making the call to break into break programming they don't get to do that someone else has to make that call and they must have been pulling their hair out. There is a great responsibility when you know it's Sunday night it is a it's a it's a rivalry a real rivalry between the Cowboys and the Eagles has been for a long time it is a prime time Sunday night game on a network. Locally it's it's no doubt the largest t.v. Viewing audience in that moment so you had a number of people that that were affected that likely that were affected by directly by that storm by that tornado hitting and were in the path of that tornado and there are stories of people that were hit you know there right there where the tornado was were hit and they were watching the Cowboys game and had no idea until it hit there there is without a doubt and there's really no way to put it any other way there is a great responsibility to your viewers in that moment to get them information that could possibly save their life and you're not talking about a rural area here won't hit know or it's like Ok this is happening 60 miles outside of the you know the metropolitan area right this was dead in the middle Yes and it's just. You know whether you move it whether you I don't know that I'm sure they all have the capability of doing it whether you shrink it and just put the Cowboys game in the cowboys in the corner and then corner and until that storm is cleared until there is no threat to the area from that tornado. There's no other way to do that and says I thought about this because yesterday we were talking about not media biased media incompetence is a lot of what happens in competence who makes these decisions that should be right just it's there is no decision to be made there is there no there's no it should ground it goes it should happen right away it's almost an instinct if you're in the media Yes Yes And that's that's the whole that's the entire responsibility really if you think about that kind of threat that's an immediate threat to those individuals in the path of that tornado Yeah. Affiliate clearly have the largest audience in that moment locally because it's the Cowboys and the Eagles there was you've got to take that responsibility very seriously and you don't hesitate. You don't and so it's one it's just one of the biggest issues here and we've been talking about it like I said after yesterday talking about you know. Just being competent in the media yeah you look at then you say there is no excuse for that right or is there just isn't an excuse when you're it and that's what I've seen throughout the day is. You know our colleagues in the media and radio on t.v. Because it's the same thing with your radio or t.v. And you and I work in local. You know radio for the longest time but even on an national side we brought it up that it hit and talked about an even breaking news on a national scale when we know we're live if it's something that's huge like that you know we might will bring it up and we know we're not the same and can cover it locally but the fact is we know how important is to mention those things when they happen and we have done we have done it when there's been tornadoes in there we've been actually in Oklahoma I remember a couple of years ago when there were some major tornadoes we were covering that right covering that live and we do a national show and we know it's not of interest to everybody but some things are just of such urgency that you would at least have to bring it up understanding when you do what as we do from the national level the probably local stations will cut you off and will be covering that on their own right but still you understand that it is so words and that you want your listeners in case they are you know they don't break into local coverage that that they know right yeah I mean there's again like you said there really is no question it should be no question. There's really no decision to be made there if you come from arse there are viewpoint to being in the media as long as we've been in it and working locally as much there is not even a question there tornado on the ground go you go and you shrink the broadcast down to the corner. I'm trying to think of all the places that I've worked at where the weather there was never even a meeting that said By the way when the tornado touches the ground that's when we have to break through everybody just knows it right I don't think I've ever gone through an official meeting on that and all the radio stations and t.v. Stations a significant portion of them I think the majority of my life has been more in the south or in places where you get tornadoes right so it's something that you've had to cover I don't think there was ever an official meeting were set out and said Now when this happens you break the coverage it's just you know you knew it right exactly it's a given I. My entire career has been tornado alley there's never been I don't even remember anyone saying Ok if this happens this happens no it was a given that if there were if there was a tornado warning you would break programming in television. And I've never worked in t.v. Directly but in television it's the same thing because you're looking the only your only job in that moment is to get your viewers the most updated information on a potentially deadly storm nothing else than that in that moment matter nothing just the information and the fact is by looking at the debris field with the radar they know immediately right and they did because I was watch it was another channel but when it came I was like oh there's a tornado on the ground this is it we could we can that they could tell that was debris that this thing right there is just not rotation this thing is on the ground yes right and that's something that again. They knew throughout the day you had a number of experts social media saying that this is on there was going to be a certain level of risk. And so people were aware throughout the day that. To say that was a bad call is the understatement of the year so we just thought we'd tell you about that's that story that you may hear of I'm assuming it might make national news because it is a media story right you know we yesterday we were talking about not media bias but just media incompetence right you can't find a better example can you no no you can 086690 right I.
