Soulful Music Releases by Black Artists from February 23-26

Screenshot: YouTube
Soul, man it’s what drives music as a whole. As with all things, music adapts to what’s current, already going on. In recent years, the concept of the genre has transformed into whatever a specific artist identifies with, whether that’s the backing tracks, lyrics or melodies, soul has become a much more approachable genre. Neo-soul, a sub-genre launched in the mid-‘90s, is influenced by funk, punk, jazz and hip hop, moving away from its musical counterpart, R&B. Nearly 30 years later, “neo” isn’t so new anymore, but even still, it seems like alternative R&B artists such as Noname, Masego and Smino are continuing to shift towards the neo soul genre.

It's because Croydon is when they say places that if well for years certainly when I was growing up it was a big comedy and it was Croydon you know so it gave their lives to be its name space so although I don't know you see now I go back and probably this is just being sort of I would now touch but it seems terribly it to me it's got a box park if you've ever been to a bottle part with boxes in it it's a poll of boxes of shipping containers where they put over priced food and. I mean it's marvelous it's all the young people like Bradley's eating I can dine here he's been globally you know the Coming up 20 years now I think over 20 I think 20 years I'm going to be 47 tomorrow so oh well you're only looked. So obviously do you think I mean you must have been on sign many bills where you were the only woman on the bill yes yes yes yes yes yes yes there's a less often these days definitely yeah the early days because at the time because we didn't have social media and you would very rarely see another female comic because it was the rule being busy doing shows with men so you know and I have female comic friends but we never really discussed the level of sexism and weirdness in the early days and the the things you'd put up with from audiences like to get you to you know was just such a regular hacker really do. All the time but you know to the point that you had to have a few sort of designs for it and it would really I think what support laws do you want I think my rules are very specifically about my own tickets which are very much h. Really is what it will be involved for me. But yeah it was very yeah I mean it's just massively different in terms of there are more women doing it and audience is more use to it and. People of color are in this mall but then I'm not sure that there is as much diversity of style as there was because you can't get away with some of the crazy stuff because there was always specialize in your diet a and now you know stand up comedy has become a kind of much more sort of commercial and seeing people go and see comics because I've seen them live it Apollo Evan you know which I'm not complaining about too but it does mean that there is a different and that's what I'm complaining in I do not like it when there was you know Bailey's remembrance. You know crystalline of a no just sort of people who would put a fork at the bottom or now you couldn't do that because health and so if you feel them today I don't think you were allowed to do it then to be honest Arthur I think you know I still didn't know that I knew there was talk of you having a campfire in your show there was about the brownies and that has not happened it would put it down to health and safety but it's also my own laziness because in order to sort of secure a camp fire a venue you have to do a lot of work yeah imagine it would be a lead anywhere you can even have a character smoking a cigarette or you know you have to go through a lot of hoops you have to basically have a personality is with the queen yeah in order to get it and I decided that she was a bit busy at the moment I thought she's got other things on our mind yeah. Finally let me ask you what advice would you gave to Lucy polled. 25 years ago who wants to start comedy or you know a woman of your age when you were that woman well we go back to the ninety's going on I've got when I want. To buy can so sorry mate Oh yeah I mean what advice would you give to a young comedian starting out now a young comedian saucing out now I would say. Oh it mean they have it so hard financially. I think an I think become independently wealthy for something else 1st. Find some way to make a 1000000 pounds and then becomes an accordion Oh god knows what it's like now full of those one thing that is different these days is much more often people do shows about themselves about their own sadnesses or problems yes things that have happened them but I was sort of I mean I don't like to say I was ahead of a time but yeah I think I've always been quite happy to be quite confessional but then just nothing interesting ever to happen to me like I'm not really friends go to the effort to get a campfire not equally huge personal trauma but you have got a brand is uniform certainly in the post earlier if you will show well yes but I did it so I made a special Brownie uniform for the show and I wore it for the 1st couple of shows not Imbra and it was too disturbing. To me and everyone else had the sight of a 46 year old I mean to be 47 tomorrow the 27th of January. But yeah it was just a bit weird and it just felt like it was making the show too much about the brownies and it's you know it's kind of about lots of other things as wow yeah and there are lots p.p.d. Turn up in the guard uniforms and Scout was not brownies because they are a bit too young for the show there are a couple of source a bit sin and I really swear but it's not it's not for the eleven's But yeah and so yeah now I just went home a place well I recommend that you go and see Lucy in her normal clothes. It's really great selling point is if he's wearing her normal clothes well I can vouch that you are a very funny person who says the show is to be into tightening as it was you did it in November and everybody loved it there you know it was yeah yeah I'm pretty confident Lucy Poulter thank you for joining us in the comedy club. What's this there was a scout sign used to do all things all people they did did did does a dog like that with the thing although I don't think that is really a thing to be prepared and we're doing I'm doing the brownie silly and you're doing I did what you were doing Remember this. 3 day weekend the producer Laura has got it she was obviously very good branding go right now she has a name. She still got it she still got the. And do you good date and happy both day for tomorrow Lisa Bailey mentioned you know I don't know 50 years and you'll be. Mistress of the radio this is the comedy club. On the radio or shortly on the right. It is now just offer 11 and you're listening to the comedy club with me Imelda Marcos next annoy we have to treat that is Lenny Henry rogue's gallery in which the comedian writes a series of comic monologues with twists in the title it's annoying in man's red flower Monica doll and stars in this story about a song sister who discovers I'm a regular serum. Raise rogue's gallery man's red flag starring Monica. Here at the facility research advancements in d.n.a. The brain the human genome and whatever else springs to Heston's brilliant mind we did it until you know Estens incredibly clever Oxbridge obviously streets ahead of any of his peers went to the states to lecture in the evolution of evolution at Cal Tech and left most of the academics there for dust. The facility came into being 12 years ago and Heston Charles was the boy king brought in to run it very brilliant by a technician nicknamed the punk Darwin partly because of his crippled left leg and partly due to his insistence on following the advice of even juries song spastic his autistic us and painting his to Tanian Walking-Stick self Yuruk green despite his physical infirmity praise for his scientific theories attracted nonstop attention from female admirers who flowed to him like electrons to a positron and of course Heston being Heston he worked it for all he was worth the posses he threw after the facility was so crazy you need a hazmat suit after what. Any Yes Ok we do work with animals at the facility various experiments and tests are undertaken we know what the issues are Ok but this is evolutionary science we don't shoving Benson and Hedges into his Ebers mouth and saying Go on Zelda have a drag on that it will not the stripes FIA we are serious in any case I'm pretty sure most of our inmates would refuse freedom after all they get unlimited t.v. Yoga classes and the very best drugs day in day out for free. Heston has been heavily criticized by some of his colleagues for playing God but Heston just smiles that devilish smile and says if the cap fits. So. What happened. Well Heston's theories were only to the idea that apes have somehow become stranded in the ascent to human level intelligence that their entire species would benefit from some kind of by a genetic boost something totally explosive in defective imagine if you were constipated you used Centex instead of sent a colt that's the general idea anyway Heston thought that apes could be where the addition to the human workforce if trained properly they could relieve the burden of pressure on mankind by taking over some of the more onerous tasks not just shelf stacking or burger flipping but number crunching mine a clock and u.t.c. Hasting gameshows eccentric I know it all sounds a bit brave new world but Heston funny enough isn't interested in science fiction his favorite thing to say after he'd had 6 martini Red Bulls was all about science fuck baby then he would stick uptown funk on repeat turn it up to lead and we'd all have to do the dance and then work until 4 in the morning. I've always had a soft spot for Heston Of course he doesn't even look at me I'm not his type I'm just a lab worker pure and simple and it doesn't matter what I wear or how I style my hair I could literally stand on my workbench completely naked when he came in the morning and he would just grunt morning Charlotte and fall into his office. But that was going to change. Thanks to his team's research we have developed a boost to serum called p r one and 8 it looks like the word primate as texted by a bored teenager in the last few years we've been testing different versions of p.r. One I made basically a concoction of system accelerators and long chain proteins on a variety of subjects Primo and Sue Goodwin day were manifest alas they died exploded during yoga one morning they were performing the downward facing dog j. Why I remember that anyway just as that completing the 2nd sun salutation fact they were all over the walls but there was enough promise there for the work to continue can't make a genetically modified only it without killing several dozen apes right Erin was next he was a Rwandan gorilla he almost worked too well he's still the plans for the facility with 2 around the tank deputies Elvis and Jerry Lee formed a cohort of disciples and engineered a massive escape attempt disabling the security system killing 2 security guards and stealing 4 plasma T.V.'s and the x. Box Aaron Elvis Jerry Lee and their followers will a bottom ised and quietly disposed of. The top brass were running out of patients has to in told us of course has been charmed them during the meeting winning them over by saying that Rome wasn't built in a day the human genome wasn't sequenced in a week and that it took many years to discover the actual use of mom might. Top brass laughed at that but warned him seemingly without any that these monkeys don't grow on trees you know say Heston said he'd be more careful next time and he was. There were many tweaks alterations and changes to p.r. When any in this period and then suddenly. And I was there on the operating table a 200 pound gorilla from the mountain region of Uganda fully grown immensely strong . As and his treatment progressed and we monitored the tone barrier screens around the facility we would hear Heston limping around on his sticks and yelling this is the one I tell you this is going to be the one. And he was right. The 1st thing and I did once she had woken up was asked for a cup of lapsing sushi and a vegetable curry understand him a copy dressing on. Within a month she had mastered computer technology the great works of literature Voltaire Rousseau Aristotle Joseph Campbell and Jackie Collins and watch box sets of David Asman bro The Sopranos Breaking Bad and Only Fools and Horses Heston was completely smitten they played chess together and Scrabble and Twister I was jealous of course I was what am I chopped liver 8 years of him grunting morning Charlotte at me and then Lady gorilla gargle shows up and I'm not even acknowledged dumped like a 6 year old Skoda on an airfield. I was hurt A.T.'s is a long time to wait for some kind of recognition it's very frustrating then guess what he goes on t.v. It. Bossed it. She was annoyingly brilliant on Newsnight Evan Davis was literally blown away she told jokes on The Tonight Show how do you cook bacon in the jungle. Put it under the gorilla. Along with this I'm here to try that the new comedy schtick Ana developed a political conscience which has tended nothing to stop I would even go as far as to say that he encouraged her it was unlike man she would bang on a non Why shouldn't I have the right to vote I'm far better read in a 100 times more intelligent than the average Briton he has ever actually read Moby Dick Well I have twice and yet you treat me like some kind of 2nd class citizen I try to tell has to and he'd gone too far told him that he'd stolen fire from the gods and created a monster that would pull the entire facility down around his ears and destroy all his hard work and all because he secretly fancied Anna he pushed me up against the wall put his face so close I could smell the cigarettes on his breath and told me I was only jealous and he could never fancy someone like me and then he just slipped away. What a prick if there was a place in the world called pricks will that be a statue of Heston Charles in the town center with an enormous prick growing out of his for it Meanwhile Anna was the toast bagel and crumpet of the town the top banana as it were reading the jungle book to children in underprivileged schools giving political speeches on behalf of Amnesty International and even appearing on Celebrity mostest Chef which I thought was a bit much she came 2nd though you can't cook bananas for every course and vowed to smash her opponents the next time competitive bitch. And thanks to our. Compound the company that owned the facility was about to go public on the Stock Exchange the effects of p.r. Want to mate only short term so if you bought it you need constant top ups a perfect business model. Everyone here was about to become very rich indeed I didn't care about the money I just wanted Heston to show caution and I had already spoken out against incarceration and animal testing and one night I had the marketing Heston was drunk and telling Ana that he had provided her with every book she'd read chosen every piece of music she had ever listened to given her every opportunity in fact he created her and therefore she should show a bit of respect she quoted Volterra him men an equal it's not birth but virtue that makes the difference has to new law ft told of Voltaire was a dead French Ponce and then tried to kiss her. Ana pushed him away with all his strength and knocked him clean across the lab. Heston showed up at Mike Walters and ranted for an hour about how he had created an a from scratch he was drunk of course she had sprung fully formed from his mind and his mind only I sobered him up with some black coffee and stroked his head and of course that set him off he went on one of his I could never love you Charlotte rants on and on and on he went until finally he lunged out of my room and left me to a sleepless night. The next day a small group of the world's press arrived at the facility has to know was that with his hair slicked back and his clash City Rockers t. Shirt on to his gleaming white lab coat with skinny jeans and brothel creepers looking every inch the rock n roll lab rat the rest of us of course we dressed conservatively. Anna made her entrance lavishly dressed in green by Alexander McQueen and shocking pink Jimmy Choo heels I have to say she looked faintly ridiculous green and pink were not colors. Heston addressed the press with a huge smile and a twinkle in his eye he announced that peel one and 8 was going to be floated on the stock market and reconfigured as a safe study 8 students worldwide in its much weaker in connotation it could increase stamina insurance and intelligence by 70 percent he continued that although work on our primate friends would cease now that we knew the boundaries of the compounds if it it's as he said this an astute up and rule board at the cameras . To be look bottom ised turned into a vegetable might as well kill me because to live without my intelligence is to return me to what I was a dumb animal scratching my parts and throwing feces at innocent bystanders yes bastard Hester the real reason you don't want me around anymore is because I was sick put you know. What you changed your plans Hester what happened to all that bullshit about apes working side by side with men to make the world a better place Heston yelled You don't get to ask me anything anymore shame and all that intelligence and you're a bit of a ball back to the drawing board for me. The next bit happened in slow motion and his eyes flashed and then she reached out and grabbed the top of his head and I knew that with her strength she could easily twist it off like a bottle top so I did what anyone would do really a jumped on to the workbench I ran across picked up a computer and buried deep in his head. The rest you know. I'm not proud of my actions but what was I to do I couldn't let that bitch kill my Heston I couldn't she'd been nothing without Him How did she. Of course all the camera and recording equipment was confiscated there was one unfortunate front page story in The Sun I hate the headline and the photograph of a shot of me holding the computer over my head about to smash it into an a skull that picture doesn't show me off in my best light at all and the headline is just say childish it's insulting giant chimps apes Heston limp the monkey pimp 1st start Heston is not a pimp he is a serious scientist and secondly I am not a chimp I'm a big no. Right I think I've given you everything you wanted to know can I go back to my time. Rogue's Gallery. And Monica golden was produced by some Michelle it was a b.b.c. Radio comedy production. And next week Lenny returns with another roguish tale this one titled moon sisters. This is a. Great. Back to the. Time now for a little bit of Lublin is from the Cutler and friends including fishy verse and how to jazz up maids this is a study prone study. To you. Stargate prone it comes from. And eek from women who. 3 years. Of. The other half sit down and he does have a fish shan't sit down to tell me what happened to the other half. Where shall we go let's go for a walk we've done that before let's go for another. Where shall we go home let's go into the garden we've been there before let's try a new let's sit in the sun 3 kind of thing it's 2nd to Matthew on and on and so on I'll just have the egg the shell has got right. Well have to Matto the stammers still on I want a divorce you've said that already but this time I mean go back to your mum I'll go back to model no go back this evening I'll sleep in my own and listen to what I want to hear in the renewal. And no Today Stuti doing the bathroom episode one this mince needs something done to returning a belief chewed mouthful to his dessert spoon he looked at it thoughtfully prodded gently and banged it on to his plate then he lifted me by the colored we don't stairs and find something quick the mince isn't going to get hotter as ever note the front. Pushing to pick myself up after my big sister's leg could shut out like lightning to add a spice of danger to my mission I could hear Mother scraping the min spec into the pup to keep warm and each the mittens and no tamed and jumped straight into the 1st one a cloud of Sind of zeros and I could no longer see but I could hear of the clink of glass below my feet. Down I felt the bottles then rubbed them in my jersey to see what they were 3 beer bottles a milk bottle a bottle of castor oil half used and a bottle of Ok surface I grabbed the Ok and jumped out placed it on the grass and leapt straight into the middle one it was all kippered bones skins and potato peelings it's got to be number 3 I thought panic rising in my chest my prayer was answered number 3 was food I could pick and choose I stuffed 6 us bottles and 3 wine bottles of my jersey kicked the Ok sauce contemptuously to one side made my way back up like a bore hole nearly come to term and bang my head on the door when it opened I staggered over to the sink where Mother deftly transferred my treasure below the tap my big sister wiped them dry and mother spinny and placed them in God's or sorry on the kitchen table father emptied the wine to whites and I read into our Queen as one pint glass mug mother slapped sauce into the mince with the heel of the stuff they hand it to crude bottles to get the taste right then we sat down to a banquet of riotously flavored mins and receptive wine followed by 3 pineapple chunks each with juice. Afterwards as we children only repleat on the carpet but being quietly mothers I cut my jealousy look at you she screamed and raising me across her knee beat me like an old rug and raising as far as I could see a good sized Clode of dust. A stuck a pin a pin a stuck a pen Leigh's and blues and some good in it a flippy kludge mice left kitchen it's a busy group can snoop soup cannot eat that people you know I'm fighting Sure. The storekeeper and the person a study prayer and Liza in them blues in the circle in the to flee pick lot must like each it these he would and snaked Zip I don't get right. If I do let me read stuff out if I think it will add interest to the show does that mean no it means what I said Oh Mr. Oh crumbs you English have so emotional buying in the middle of the show good. Money are the very man Craig I think been Nicholson's the finest Rosman that's ever been the heart of it in which case I'd better sing a song. Here you are Billy's wife when s.t.s. One will. So ordered George jump down and help the parsons Rose No. Clue until the class gave we. The bo's'n tried to fight but then his face went white When believe why through the why no will mix with. The folks selected quickly like a shot for all of us was desperate for some in here. I counted up the crew 752. Then believes wife sank up on a chair. And tried to look. As if she was there. And tried to move over completely. As if she was. I have found a technique which allows people who have lost interest in poetry and who know that they can't write but who would love to do so to realise it of a surprising quality instead of concentrating on the meaning of you're right concentrate on the music of the one it's this will seem to your brain to be stupid and that you will write rubbish but that is just your brain trying to stop you succeeding during the short series you'll hear the odd poem made of nonsense Well it's these have 2 functions one for you to discover the pleasure of the it is in the sound of its And 2 that the brain can make value judgements and what it sees as numb sins and for lets you could come with it. I find that if you concentrate on the sound of the noun. And verbs alone and use the other parts of speech as you would normally the point you're right will flow more easily it is important that you relax before you start to write but I'm not convinced that alcohol or other drugs is the way try this tense the arms then let go repeat do the same with the legs raise the shoulders to the ears then relax roll the head round gently and do the same with the ads take a deep breath then expel sharply repeat tomorrow pen and paper may be useful. Way sorry when I've got fluffy. Stuckey. And suckle in. My sled kitchen.
