And put a little tape around it so it doesnt cut your finger. Go along the line of the pattern, we are making a connect the dots if you will. You want to be close to the previous. Pretty close, especially when there is a change in direction. Now what do we do . So, taking a saw this is a saw that you can get at a pumpkin carving kit but you can also use a paring knife in the kitchen or a craft utility knife. Okay. Insert your saw. Does it matter where we start . Doesnt really matter where we start for this pattern, near the top or center is a good spot and using a gentle sawing motion follow the lines we created. I have these really quick curves here. That will go quickly. Once you get to the end, dont push it in. Put your hand inside and then push it out. Thats a good tip. Why is that an important tip . If you can see here, as i am trying to push it in, it is not going in. Once you get more cuts it is more delicate and you will break it. This way it comes straight out. Okay. A combination of many jackolanterns and many carvings to make dinosaurs and as you are seeing on the screen here a tree full of jackolanterns. Corn. Those are awesome. Look like totem poles. This is the ninth year you have installed this. How long does it take . A team of how many . It is a year long process for designing and coming up with new themes and the carving takes place about the end of september and goes all the way through the event. But set up is a couple of months before the event starts. Quite popular, 45 minutes to walk through the pathway. It is. We are anticipating over 100,000 people this year. Where this this event. In Van Cortlandt manor. In new york. In new york. All right. Lets get to it. How do we make it . We want to learn. First, its a matter of choosing the right pumpkin. Okay. This is a nice fresh pumpkin. We have washed and cleaned it. The first step is to scoop it out. We have cut a hole. Throw that out. Theres the hole. Grab your spoon and start this is where the messy part comes in. We have a cleaned out pumpkin with a pattern on it. Heres our cleaned out pumpkin and you were kind enough. I have taped the pattern down for us. This is a screw or nail. And put a little tape around it so it doesnt cut your finger. Go along the line of the pattern, we are making a connect the dots if you will. You want to be close to the previous. Pretty close, especially when there is a change in direction. Now what do we do . So, taking a saw this is a saw that you can get at a pumpkin carving kit but you can also use a paring knife in the kitchen or a craft utility knife. Okay. Insert your saw. Does it matter where we start . Doesnt really matter where we start for this pattern, near the top or center is a good spot and using a gentle sawing motion follow the lines we created. I have these really quick curves here. That will go quickly. Once you get to the end, dont push it in. Put your hand inside and then push it out. Thats a good tip. Why is that an important tip . If you can see here, as i am trying to push it in, it is not going in. Once you get more cuts it is more delicate and you will break it. This way it comes straight out. Okay. Even though we are using knives, how do we include the little kids in this. If they want to draw out their design. Hey, that just popped out. There you go. Good.
