Good evening on this thursday night. Diane has the evening off. We begin with the abc news exclusive. The first juror to come forward, to show her face, to reveal what was going through her mind as they tried to decide whether or not George Zimmerman was guilty of murder. That juror oneonone with abcs Robin Roberts, offering revealing words about her own struggle in that jury room. This was her seat, front left, her eyes trained on the witnesses. Tonight hear for the first time what she thinks about George Zimmerman. She begins by revealing her first vote in those deliberations. Guilty or not. Heres the Robin Roberts exclusive. What was your first vote . My first vote was seconddegree murder. Seconddegree murder . In between that nine hours, it was hard. You know, a lot of us that wanted to find something that, something that we could connect to the law. For myself, hes guilty because the evidence shows hes guilty. Hes guilty of . Killing trayvon martin. But as the law was read to me, if you have no proof that he killed him intentionally, you cant find you cant say hes guilty. Did you want to step out at all . Did you want to quit . I was the juror that was gonna give them the hung jury. Oh, i was. I fought to the end. Its hard for me to sleep. Its hard for me to eat. Because i feel that i was forcefully included in Trayvon Martins death, and as i carry him on my back, im hurting as much as Trayvon Martins mother, because theres no way that any mother should feel that pain. But you feel in your heart of hearts that you and the jury approached it and came with the decision, and you stand by that decision to this day . I stand by the decision because of the law. If i stand by the decision because of my heart, he would have been guilty. I know that youve heard some people have said point blank, theyve said, George Zimmerman got away with murder. How do you respond to those people that say that . George zimmerman look, George Zimmerman got away with murder. But you cant get away from god. And at the end of the day, hes gonna have a lot of questions and answers he has to deal with. The law couldnt prove it. But, you know, the world goes in circles. Our thanks to Robin Roberts. I want to bring in nightline anchor dan abrams. We were here that night and you said to me, it will be very revealing when we hear from a juror who weighs in on the man in that courtroom, versus the law. This is what the defense feared, the possibility that some of these jurors might decide this case based on emotion and not based on the law. Even she said, she said she still thinks he did the right thing, because she followed the law, if she followed her heart, she would have hung that jury. She even said she would give them the hung jury, i fought to the end. So there was debate. There was debate. They asked for the manslaughter charge read back. If there had been one or two more maddies back there, this could have been a hung jury. Dan, thank you. Much more of robins interview with that juror tonight on nightline and tomorrow morning robin on good morning america, weighing in on that torn juror, struggling with the heart break, but standing by the verdict. The exclusive on good morning america. In the meantime, also breaking tonight, the frightening landing, the southwest jet at a new york airport. The unsettling images from inside the plane. Tonight weve just learned, it wasnt the landing gear that failed. It was that the nose of the jet was coming down first. Could it be pilot error again just two weeks after the other crash in San Francisco . Heres abcs lisa stark. Reporter we now know what led to this terrifying landing, with the nose gear collapsing and sending sparks and flames flying. And tossing passengers around the cabin. It turns out the boeing 737 came down nose gear first. The front wheels touching the runway first. Thats not normal procedure. Pilots are supposed to land on the rear wheels first. The front isnt designed to hold the entire weight of the aircraft. The wheels gave way and slammed violently back into the jet liner. You can see them here. 150 people were on the southwest flight. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. The accident comes a few week after a crash landing in San Francisco which left three passengers dead. And lisa working her sources in washington, you reported that the front wheels came down first and thats not how its supposed to happen. Exactly. The National Transportation safety board has looked at the data recorders. Heres how a plane is supposed to land. Little bit nose up, then they put the nose down. This one apparently came in nose down, thats what caused the problem. And of course questions now about pilot error. Lisa stark in washington on the breaking story, thank you. We move on to the heartstopping new video of the deadly train crash in spain. At least one american on board among the 80 killed. Look at this tonight. That train rocketing down those tracks, slamming into a barrier, caught on tape. Tonight the driver of that train, reportedly revealing more about his speed before the crash as we now hear from an american on board. Abcs Nick Schifrin is at the scene in spain tonight. Reporter the moment of impact. The train racing around the bend, and then violently careening off track before the camera cuts out. Watch again in slow motion. Right there. Experts say thats the critical moment. The second car begins to leave the track, setting off a chain reaction. Each Passenger Car carrying 25 people and then the engine, twisting and toppling. The driver reportedly admitted he was racing 110 miles an hour. More than double the speed he was supposed to be going. It was too late for him to take any action. He wouldve had to start applying brakes probably a mile before the train entered that curve. Reporter we reached 18yearold stephen ward on the phone. The car leaned sideways for less than two seconds. Reporter he was sitting in the eighth car, on a mission for his utah church. We were suddenly air born. It never crossed my mind that we were crashing, there wasnt time. Reporter within moments, the victims all around him. Cars in flames. Others ripped apart like tin cans. Tonight hes in the hospital with broken bones. In the u. S. , Passenger Cars must have stronger frames. That means fewer fatalities in crashes. And a new system will soon be ushered in that will automatically slow american trains down if theyre speeding. And in spain tonight, the driver whose speed might have caused this tragedy is under investigation. Tonight you can see the crane behind me to remove the final two cars from the track. Theyre talking to the driver and reportedly he was only a few minutes late. David, theyre asking him whether he was just trying to make up time. Nick schifrin, thank you. Today, he couldnt even say how many women he has sent sexually explicit messages and photos. Its not dozens and dozens. It is six to ten i suppose. But i cant tell you absolutely what someone is going to consider inappropriate or not. Reporter and how many after weiner, a democrat, Left Congress in disgrace, promising it had all stopped . I dont believe i had any more than three. Reporter weiners wife, huma abedin, a longtime confidant of hillary clinton, offered an emotional defense of her husband tuesday, but hasnt been seen with him since. I wonder all the time what i did to deserve such an amazing woman. Reporter when weiner posed with his wife and baby last year, he told People Magazine, every day since this has happened, ive tried to become a better person. A husband that huma deserves. Days later, he was at it again. But after his first scandal broke, we saw how adamant and combative weiner can be when lying. Is it inappropriate for a member of congress to be following young women on their twitter accounts not even from their district . You have several young women in your account. 40,000 people follow you and you only follow a couple of hundred . You know, thats outrageous. Its really outrageous, the implication is outrageous. Do you really think thats a fair question . This is a twitter hoax. A prank that was done. Reporter today, nancy pelosi, the highest ranking woman elected official in the country, and a longtime democratic alley of wieners forcefully condemned him, calling his behavior reprehensible, disrespectful of women, and worst of all, that he doesnt have a clue. Jonathan karl in washington, thank you. Now to the other headline developing tonight, Tropical Storm churning in the atlantic. Dorian on the move, packing 60 mile per hour winds. At that point let me show you a couple of forecast tracks here. Everyones in agreement that it is making it toward that puerto rico area by monday and tuesday. After that all bets are off. So this time of year, we typically look at the entire east coast, not just a florida issue, it could curve up. Well be watching first thing in the morning on gma. Thanks, sam.
