Night vote by city council. And were just hours away from the debate between President Biden and former President Trump. The role of governor gavin newsom will play during the big event. Good morning to you. It is thursday, june 27th. We want to check on our weather. Drew. Its pleasant out there. You liked yesterday equally as delightful today. But then we talk about some hotter weather moving in by the part of the weekend. Were out there celebrating pride on sunday, but this morning, a live look at the exploratorium camera. Not a lot of cloud cover, but you look on the horizon. You can see a few of those clouds lurking out there. We have partly cloudy skies along the coast right now in the city and oakland. Not widespread cloud cover. This morning, a lot of us starting out with clear skies, and that means well have a lot of sunshine today. But just like yesterday will be breezy this afternoon and temperatures a few degrees below average for this time of the year. So looking at current temperatures right now, 40 in our coolest valleys, mainly 50s around the bay shoreline as you get you going on this thursday. So looking at the forecast inland, very similar to yesterday. Its splendid sunshine, pleasant temperatures will be in the mid 80s for daytime highs. Look at all those sunny skies as we head deeper into the afternoon. Now around the bay shoreline. It is cooler but still pleasant. Upper 60s to the lower 70s. And again, that breeze is with us this afternoon. And then along the coast it will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day and highs in the low 60s. Later today. Lets check in with sue hall. See those drive times this morning . Thank you drew and we are checking in at the Golden Gate Bridge where it is just a gorgeous morning, not a shred of fog and smooth sailing. In fact, very few cars coming in southbound from marin county. I just want to mention we had roadwork in the northbound direction that has been picked up. And you can see its just beautiful. If youve got to be up this early. Just a nice ride. Weve got about a 17 minute ride on the san mateo bridge headed from hayward, over towards the peninsula. Those taillights moving across the causeway and up the incline section. Otherwise, looking at the typical Early Morning commute out of the central valley, about 45 minutes now from tracy, up and over the altamont. Thanks, sue. That three alarm fire that broke out overnight at a supply Company Warehouse in oakland is now contained. The burn first ignited around 10 p. M. Last night on the roof of the building on 24th street. Fire crews were able to stop the flames from spreading from the Main Building to the yard, just after midnight. Residents who live close by are still being told to keep all their windows closed. Theres just a huge amount of smoke in that area and to another fire. Now this one. A grass fire in contra costa county. Its 75 contained. That fire grew rapidly yesterday afternoon, burning 255 acres in about two hours near the antioch brentwood border. It started along deer valley road near residential community. It had plenty of dry grass for those flames to feed on. Firefighters used bulldozers and fire retardant to keep the flames from reaching homes. New developments in Half Moon Bay, where this morning farm workers and advocates are celebrating a big win. Last night, the city council denied three appeals, trying to stop an Affordable Housing development from going up the complex on kelly avenue will serve low income senior farm workers. Abc seven News ReporterGloria Rodriguez has been following the story and gloria, the project is moving forward after extensive debate. It is amanda, last nights Half Moon BayCity Council Meeting was contentious as supporters and opponents of the farm worker Housing Project spoke. The development will be a five story, 40 unit complex on kelly avenue in the citys Downtown Business district. It will also include a Resource Center for farm workers and some parking on the first floor. Supporters say the development addresses dire Housing Conditions that cosite farm workers currently face, especially after the deadly 2023 mass shooting at two farms that exposed their living conditions. But opponents argued the project was just too big and would create traffic bottlenecks. Something more appropriate. Please not this project. Its too big. The only way were going to be able to house more people is to go up. We dont want to suffer anymore. Please, lets keep forward with 555 kelly. The council dismissed the appeals for the project, clearing the path for the project to proceed. This is one of the final steps in a long and delayed process to get this project going. You may remember half moon based Planning Commission was accused of moving too slowly on the project, and it even caught the attention of governor gavin newsom, who threatened to intervene if the commission did not act. And the commission gave the project conditional approval in may. The next steps now are a leasing agreement for the property nonprofit alas, and mercy housing have been working on the project, and supporters say they are over the moon, with the citys councils decision last night. Live in the studio, Gloria Rodriguez, abc seven news. Thanks, gloria. Mayor london breed originally proposed cuts to child care, Food Insecurity and violence prevention programs. Funding for many of these programs has just been saved. There is a policy directive in my budget amendments so that we can do an inventory of our assets and those needs over the next ten years. There are also concerns that the sale of the Oakland Coliseum may not be finalized in time for the money to be used in this new budget. One week ago today, the fbi raided the home of oakland mayor xiang tao. She is still not taking any questions about the raid and has only made two public appearances since. The second one came yesterday in San Francisco at a meeting of the metropolitan transportation commission. Tao serves as a commissioner on the bodys board, and she voted on several measures. She eventually left the meeting early, but taos legal troubles and oaklands ongoing budget issues were mentioned. Thats why im calling for the resignation from your committee of mayor chen tao so we can have a good committee. Okay. Thank you very much. Earlier this week, mayor tao said she would not let last weeks raid distract her from duties. Now, abc seven news is working every day to uncover new details in the fbi investigation. Tonight, President Biden and donald trump face off in atlanta for the first debate of the year. Were counting down to abcs coverage at the bottom of your screen. All day today, Governor Newsom will reportedly also be there. Hell be there as a surrogate and likely make several tv appearances. As for the debate, microphones will be muted throughout the debate, so whoever is speaking can talk uninterrupted. There will also be no audience. San jose state professor donna crane says these rules could actually favor trump. Its going to prevent him from being so domineering both over President Biden and over the moderator. So im wondering if that it will just sort of take away some of his more unpleasant tendencies when he debates. Those just wont be possible. So, you know, that could that could result in him appearing less, less of a bully. Crane says she believes President Biden is coming into this debate as the underdog. You can watch the president ial debate right here on abc seven tonight. Coverage starts at five, and the debate hosted by cnn, begins at 630. 508 this morning, were in the south bay with a live look from our san jose camera. Its looking lovely out there. Taking a look at our highs today versus average a very similar story to yesterday a few areas below average, a few areas above average. But for the most part were pretty close to where we should be for this time of the year. Our warmest areas going to the 80s, thats napa, livermore, santa rosa, 70s around the bay shoreline. Look at these winds across the city. Were gusting to about 31mph. Pretty stiff breeze through the delta right now. And when you have these morning winds it tends to chop up our marine layer. And thats why were seeing those clear skies this morning. Look at the winds later on this afternoon. They will be quite strong along the coast. Will likely see winds about 20 to 40mph along the coastline around the bay shoreline and inland. Those winds closer to 20 to 30mph. He held on to the leash and followed rhino. We had a really steep hillside on the right side of us that rhino wanted to pull to a few times, and in training where i say, trust your dog. And so i was like, if he wants to pull up that, theres probably a reason im going to trust him on this one. All that training and trust paid off. Rhino was the first to reach mcleish, seeing him was just this was great. Like were going to get him out of here. Weber gave the tired but thankful hiker his shirt and when i asked weber how it felt to find him, he was quick to say their part was minimal. But first, another whistleblower is coming forward with admissions about the inner workings at boeing. How the company is nonpublic information to the media. Earlier this week. Those details are about the ntsb investigation into how that door plug blew out of one of its planes in january. This is what boeings service, or i should say, Senior Vice President of quality, said tuesday. The max crash, we made a mistake in, we own did this, did this airplane leave our factory in . What we believe is a nonconforming condition that led to the accident . Yes it did. Have we taken steps to address those . I believe we have. I believe were continuing to do it. I believe the steps were taking today will make us an even better company. The ntsb accuses the company of, quote, blatantly violating a signed agreement with the agency. Meanwhile boeing is responding to a new whistleblower whos raising questions about the safety of the 787 dreamliner. Jet mechanic Richard Cuevas worked for boeings supplier, Spirit Aerosystems. He claims he saw holes being drilled improperly into the forward pressure bulkhead. Now the bulkhead is a primary part of a planes body and crucial for keeping the jet intact while its in the air. Boeing says an analysts analysis, i should say, determined the issues raised did not present a safety concern. Cuevas says he was fired for speaking up. Spirit aerosystems says its investigating and encourages all employees with concerns to come forward. And speaking of boeing, in todays gma first look, abc news is getting a tour of the factory where the Alaska Airlines max jet left without the bolts on the door panel. Heres abc News Reporter gio benitez. In this mornings gma first look behind the scenes at boeing for the First Time Since that max nine door plug blowout in january, boeing is taking reporters behind the scenes in a highly choreographed and controlled tour of its renton, washington factory. This is where that Alaska Airlines plane was built, and it left here without those critical bolts on the door block. Boeing says the planes fuselage arrived at this factory from Spirit Aerosystems with defects, so boeing employees had to remove the door plug. But at the end of the production line, the plane had to be moved outside. A move crew put the door plug in without the bolts. We do have confidence that no other airplane was delivered like this, but we want to make sure it never happens again. And coming up at 7 a. M, well have much more from the boeing 737 max factory with your gma first look im gio benitez abc news, new york.
