Thats right, and the heat has led to the deaths of two people in the south bay. They were identified as 72yearold dennis young and 81 sets setsu jordan. Both died on monday. Santa clara county has confirmed both suffered heatrelated illnesses. Health officials want to remind everyone the elderly are the most vulnerable in hot temperatures, along with Young Children and people with chronic illnesses. Cooling centers are set up at libraries, Senior Centers and other locations in the county offering people air conditioning and water. We have lists of those locations on our website, abc7news. Com. All right. A look at different places now from walnut creek on the left there, a hot spot to santa cruz on your right, a cool spot. People are bracing for warmer temperatures as the heat continues to build towards the afternoon. Obviously they cant take that fur off, and they feel the heat just as much as we do, so the keepers brought in extra backs of ice so they can cool off. A dripping wet delivery truck pulled into the oakland zoo this morning hauling 800 pounds of ice. Being dehydrated is just as dangerous to them as it is for humans, so ice keeping them cool, a lot of them dont have a lot of sweat glands like we do. Reporter these frozen bags and blocks will keep about 25 different species cool on the hottest day of this heat wave, including these otters. Ice will also cool the elephants, lions, black bears and baboons. The Peninsula Ice Company Owner donated about half of this haul. We threw in the blocks for free. One, im an animal lover, and, two, i like giving because when you give you get back. Reporter its clear the ice is a hit with otters ginger and wyatt. Its difficult to get stuff like this and having this donation is really major on a day as hot as today is going to be. Police are investigating a fatal double shooting in brentwood on birch near parkway street shortly after 11 00 last night. Police say it started as some sort of argument between two men and another two men who live on this block. When officers arrived they found both men on the ground and both died at the scene. The shooter is in custody and being questioned. A neighbor tells abc 7 news she heard the commotion. I heard two gunshots really rapidly, and i went to go check my broc yard back to my parents house and make sure it wasnt in my backyard or anything, and then my fiance calmed me down and said its probably just fireworks. This morning when she went to move her car she realized it was not just fireworks. Police have not determined a motive, but they dont think this was a random act. A street closures have already started in San Francisco ahead of pride celebrations this weekend. The service for Otto Warmbier was held at his alma mater, Women High School outside of the community lined the streets as the hearse carried his cass tet to the school. Warmbier died less than a week after returning home after north korea released him from prison. He was in a coma. The exact cause of his death is unknown. The warmbier family declined an autopsy.
