Theyll be accommodating 180 people left stranded yesterday after their flights were cancelled because of the gusty winds. There are already seven cancellations this morning, as well as several delays. Happening today, pg e crews are working to restore power to customers throughout the bay area. The biggest impact is in the north bay, where 2,300 people are still in the dark. 2,000 without power on the peninsu peninsula. The south bay, 1,900. 100 in the east bay. Just a handle of customers in San Francisco. Crews are making significant progress, considering the storm left more than 40,000 customers without electricity yesterday. That storm brought down several trees across the bay area, causing some big messes. Daly city firefighters cut apart a tree that came down on a box truck. No one injured there, and the truck was not damaged. In San Francisco, public works and fire crews answered dozens of calls to get rid of trees toppled over by winds like these. This near delores park. This tree fell across southbound lanes of i280. You can see a car under the tree trunk. There are two cars involves. Tree did not fall on the vehicle. The tree actually fell on the freeway first. Both vehicles werent able to react in time and collided into the tree. One of the drivers suffered minor injuries when she hit the tree. In San Francisco, a group of people were sitting inside a bus people were sitting inside a bus shop shelter when from a Hotel Renovation came down. Fortunately, no one was hurt. A storm led to several rescues including a taxi drove into the echuary in oakland. Unfortunately, the crews werent quick enough to rescue the driver. Reporter water rescue in a group of hills where teens tried body surfing this creek. I saw him go down. I thought, like, my friends could die. Reporter the friends got stuck in a tunnel and pulled out by the oakland Fire Department. It wasnt cold because we had wet suits, but it was definitely scary. Reporter peter is relieved his son and friends are okay, but a lesson definitely learned. It was a scary phone call i got, saying they got swept away. I wasnt sure. Reporter there was a grim outcome to this dramatic elresc near oakland airport. Witnesses saw the cab disappear during the height of the storm. The cab is later pulled from the water. One person inside, just the driver and, you know, we were able to get him out with the rescue swimmers from alameda city and oakland fire. Reporter the man inside died later at the hospital. Residents are worried about the rain on the way that could get into their homes. Unexpected. Well, we heard oint tit on t news, had warnings on our phone but we didnt think itd get this sad. Turns out, it got worse than what we expected. Steady stream of people making their way to sandbag stations to prepare for the weather. In Sonoma County, the Sheriffs Department posted pictures rescuing someone in the river. 3,000 people around monterio has been told to evacuate their homes. Michael shared video. The city has undergone major changes since the early 2000s and the devastating flood in 2005. Residents say the city has come a long way. Water everywhere. You know, like the downtown area flooded. People had sandbags, but you know, businesses got water all in them and everything. So it is much better now. If you go through the downtown area, you can see sandbags stacked in doorways there. The city is also closed off at riverside parks and paths. Flooding and Power Outages are forcing School Districts in Sonoma County to cancel classes. Heres the districts that wont have school. Alexander valley, cloverdale, forestville, geyser ville, guerneville, Harmony Union and monte rio union. Two people got trapped inside of that car last night when fisher creek overflowed the banks around 7 30 p. M. This was the scene near santa teresa and bailey. Crews walked the two people to safety. I was heading home on bailey, going west. All of a sudden, the road just turned shiny and the flood water was coming over the road. The next thing i know, the car stalled. We were ten feet from the edge of the water. Within a matter of ten minutes, the water has grown 20, 30 feet in front of us. Just after this rescue was made, crews had to evacuate quickly because the water started rising again. The flooding got so bad in san jose, it caused problems for police. Look what happened after one officer went to help a stranded driver last night near santa tarea and bailey, west of highway 101. The water rose so fast during the rescue, an officer parked at the scene got trapped inside his own squad car. We responded because its what we have to do. We went to assist a motorist. Yet, we can fall into the same traps if were not cautious. The driver is okay, and Police Called firefighters to help rescue the stranded officer. The officers say the particular intersection is going to remain intersection is going to remain closed until the water recedes. Sounds like a monsoon in martinez, right . Look how much rain fell there overnight. One rain gauge showed an inch an hour. Parts of the pacheco boulevard looked like a river. The drains are part of the problem this morning. Sandbags kept many downtown businesses dry. In San Francisco, crews closed part of the great highway along ocean beach due to flooding. Crews are waiting for the water to recede before reopening the highway. People in the Santa Cruz Mountains are on alert for possible evacuation because of the rising river. The Planning Committee went door to door yesterday, alerting residents about the rising river. I feel like people are doing a really good job. We let them we give them lots of warnings. The county has also used the reverse 911 system to let people know whats going on. Process has been a smooth one. The river is being closely monitored. It has not yet reached flood stage. Once the rain stops completely, vineyards will be able to assess whether the grapes for this years wine crop will be damaged. With another round of storms approaching and the threat of more flooding, today could be a good day to stock up on sandbags. Cities have sandbag filling stations.
