And mandatory annual audits guaranteeing the money goes directly to our classrooms. Not to bureaucracy, not to administration. So vote yes on 55. Because it helps our children thrive. Good morning, east bay, lets get going. This is abc7 morning. At 6 30 we start with sky 7 over the loma fire burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We have watched the flames all morning and our reporter is near the fire. It is force new evacuations. Matt you just heard from a resident that had to leave . A lot of people are leash on little uvas and croy road. The flames are glowing. People in the area are being told to get out right now, and the evacuations started at 3 30 this morning, and the Sheriff Deputies are going door to door to get people out and are telling them they are going to stay until the very last moment, something that the Sheriff Deputies do not want to hear, and neither do firefighters because they are trying to get equipment up there and trying to fight this fire and having to deal where memorial who are stay up there, it can be a problem of the many people are leaving. We talked to one evacuee this morning. We are afraid that in nothing goes wrong we are not allowed back in and we are not sure where we will stay and we grab add few days worth of clothes. You did future have friends or family . We do but i dont know in it is necessary. You hope to go back in . Yes, later today, i hope so, especially in nothing is wrong they may not let us in. I dont know. We just spoke with cal fire on phone and they told us that this fire is now at 1,500 acres. Last night at 11 00 it was reported at a thousand acres and now it has grown to 500 acres overnight. It is 5 contained and 300 homes evacuated, and that number will grow today. Firefighters are coming in from across the bay area and across the state. Conditions are not good. This is going to be a challenge, they are expect, hot temperatures today and dealing with the crowd conditions and unfamiliar terrain. Speaking of unfamiliar terrain, this is san jose Fire Department, they had their engines parked where we are and we just went up, little uvas road to see what was going on. The roads are dirt, thin roads, sometimes they go down to one lane, so the firefighters told me they are not able to bring this equipment or engines up into the areas, they have other types of equipment that are going 31 and they go around the other way to get fire trucks and resources up there. That is some of the issues that the fires are facing today. As they try to get hold of the fire and put it down. It could be several days. Matt, we wish them ought luck. It sounds like there is a lot go against them. As we get word of the new evacuations hundreds forced out of their homes and are waiting to see in their structures are safe. Santa cruz county Sheriff Deputies warned people about the possible evacuations and some are ready to leave in a moments notice, passing clothes and passports and other important items. A huge Mushroom Cloud. It was daunting. And it got bigger and bigger and bigger until, finally i heard the helicopters and planes that made me feel better. We are toll it was blow to the ocean and coup sweep us here so we are waiting. We continue to ask how many structures have been burned and now it is too early to tell. We know one has been damaged but we do not know in it was a home or another building. For those who want to get their large animals out of harms way two centers have been set up, you can take horses to grand show ground in santa cruz or to the fairgrounds in watsonville. A quick on other fires in the area a small one broke out in scots valley last night north of highway 17. It started at a home at 9 30 the it spread to nine acres and was knocked down. Firefighters are working to contain another major fire in sonoma. The sawmill fire has burned 1,500 acres. It is east of cloverdale and 45 contained. We checked at the sawmill fire all evacuations have now been lifted. Now, we will talk to meteorologist mike nicco and the conditions the firefighters are facing are good and bad. It is going to be that way headed through the week. Good morning, we will look at what is going on with the conditions, you can see 77 at 2,500 and 56 at 5,574. But the winds are calm it will be breezy around the flame as they suck in the air. Everyone is good right now, but inland east bay in the Santa Clara Valley you have poor air quality this afternoon. Here is a look a what will happen, tens are 90 today, and it will cool off starting tomorrow through the weekend, and, then, the breezes will pick up at 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour so it will be cooler but the winds are going to be fatter. We will see how they are impacting the roads. Alexis . We have c. H. P. With the local road closures surrounding this fire, as well, and zooming in on our traffic maps, loma prieta and mount bache in the same area, to the east of highway 17, as of right now it is not backing highway 17. Also, Mount Madonna and little uvas and croy road, a lot of these are small, maybe one lane, dirt roads in here, as well, and our main roads are impacted but you will want to avoid the area. Thank you, alexis. East bay couple is shaken. They were unloading grocery. Two masked men attacked them. This is terrible. The men shot and pistolwhipped the couple. Amy hollyfield is in orinda. Amy . Yes, i was talking to one of their neighbors. Too shy to go on camera. She knows the couple well and is devastate asked horrified and in tears and cannot imagine why anyone would want for hurt this couple it happen at 9 00 last night. Here in orinda. The couple, she is 70 and her husband is 59. Therapy at safeway and were coming home from the grocery store, possible followed from the store to their home. Outside the home in the drive they unloaded the groceries and were con fronted by to men in halloween masks. They pistolwhipped the husband and took his wallet, and they ended up shooting the extentyearold woman who the neighbor said is on the school board in orinda and took her purse. She was shot in the arm and the neighbor said she got hit in the hip. She is in the hospital but is expected to survive. She is going to okay not life threatening injuries. The two hen got away and ran away, ran out of here, we are on the north side of highway 24 a mile and a half in, in orinda at claremont and california. A very quiet neighborhood. A dead enstreet. Police set up the perimeter and the two men got away and they think necessity ran away and were on foot but, still, looking for them this morning. Now your voice and your vote it was a fiery debate in a tight race and you saw it last night right here. This morning, the spin, though, is well underway both campaigns are doing a victory lap. Stehpanie has the latest. Stehpanie . So many moments to talk about last nights debate may have been the highest rated debate ever, Hillary Clinton and donald trump disagreeing over race, jobs, terrorism, and fell perment democrat temperament. Their first general election face off turning contentious and personal. Quick. I have a feeling by the end of the evening i will be blamed for everything that ever happened. Why not . Why not, right. Slamming each other on climate change, trade and stop and frisk. At art it is a form of racial profiling. The sergeant to take the guns away from the people that have them and are bad people. Stop and fiske was found to be unconstitutional. In part, because it was ineffective. This was the first time that both Hillary Clinton and donald trump shared the same stage as they try to prove they are the best person to lead the country. You decided to stay home. And that is okay. Donald i think just criticized me for preparing for this debate. And, yes, i did. You know what else i prepared for i prepared to be president. And i think that is a good thing. Get ready for the next one, the second president ial debate between Hillary Clinton and donald trump is set for october 9 in st. Louis, missouri. Back over to you. Thank you, stehpanie. Our political analyst and correspondent said that Hillary Clinton did exactly what she needed to do. Presenting herself as calm, collected and the right candidate. She said that it was in stark contrast to trumps style. In numerous cases, she threw out red meat and he took the bait and he looked unsettled, and lost it in a couple of instances. Here are the dates for the president ial debates. St. Louis is october 9. And then in las vegas ten daze later. The Vice President ial candidates will debate october 4 in virginia. You her the arguments from the first president ial debate, how true were the arguments . We have a fact check on our news app this morning. When you download it, enable push alerts for instant updates through the race. Now, a live update. I have breaking news update on a home explosion in the bronx in new york city. We have just learned that six people were hurt in this. One firefighter is in critical condition. Four Police Officers have minor injuries and another person was also hurt. Also, police say they were investigating a gas leak but discovered what appeared to be a Drug Laboratory in the home. Police say the house exploded after. It wasnt immediately clear exactly what caused it. The thinking is it was a gas explosion. This was a small fire with this quickly knocked down. That is the newest information in our live desk. Back to you. Now, your accweather forecast with meteorologist mike nicco. Check out the temperatures in the south bay from 58 in campbell to los gatos at 78. And milpitas is 75. Alum rock is 77. 57 in lafayette. Novato is 51. We have 20 to 25 degree microclimate. That is this morning. Imagine this afternoon. 50 to 68 on 5th 25th spare the air day. 80 inland and the coast cooling this afternoon with the sea breeze and back into the 60. We will hit the midtoupper 90s inland and 68 at the coast to 83 inland by 8 00 starting to get some comfort. The heats last stand today was 90s inland and 80s an the bay, and 70s along the coast in San Francisco and, again, the temperatures are falling this afternoon. 60s and 70s around the bay, tomorrow, and 80s inlads, and mainly 60s and 70s with a few 80s on thursday, and you think the cooling trend could continue through the weekend . Absolutely, it will culminate with a chance of a shower in the sevenday forecast. Any hot spots . I told you about this some time ago and we thought we were all clear in vallejo and on the traffic maps, this is south highway 37 a collision involving a van and a smaller sedan. We her the person in the sedan was trapped and they got him out. They got both vehicles push to the shoulder. Now we have the Fire Department on the scene with lanes one, two and four fully blocked and they are possibly bringing a different van to get the folks, 15 or 16 in the commuter van switched over. We had a mile backup and now it is three miles of backup westbound 80 so if you approach vallejo expect delays. San Francisco Ferry 8 00 a. M. Departure from vallejo is not happening. Westbound 80 right before you get to the bay bridge toll plaza we had a disabled vehicle and it was blocked lane three and the first fast track lane beyond car pool lanes now it is cleared. Thank you, alexis. Showing video show as Police Beating in houston. Next, we will hear from the victim on what happened as the officers face punishment. We are tracking a fast moving fire with massive i was diagnosed with parin early 2013. Lly it took awhile to sink in. We had to think a little more seriously about saving money for the future and for the kids. The income of airbnb really helped to mitigate the stress. But we have that flexibility of knowing that if you know things get worse, we have this to help keep us afloat. So thats very, very important for us. Back, now, to sky 7, the loma fire that we are monitoring. Can you see how close the fire line has encroached to homes. Can you see someone is walking in the area. Certainly we are watching this residential area. This fire grew to 1,500 acres and firefighters are on the scene next to the structures. The fire is burning feet away from them. We only have confirmation right now of one structure that has been affected and that is bound to change as the hours go by because that information is likely still outdated before the fire grew overnight. Can you see this area is now facing two fire lines. Obviously, this is critical fires get it under control. There are more evacuations just this morning, and more people who are being notified they may have to leave at a moments notice. People were putting their items into their trunk, passport and Important Information and getting ready in case the call were to come in and, in fact, this morning the call came this for many them to leave. The problems as we have been reporting is a lot of the areas where there are homes are so rural and so hard to get to they could become trapped. The roads are very narrow and it is difficult to bring in the large Fire Equipment for fight the fires. Some of people may have to run and get out there and and may fault see fire truck going in the opposite direction. 300 structures we know were considered to be threatened and that is in this area, there are horses down there, very close to the fire line and several Evacuation Centers in the area that have been set up and we have reports of people spending the night there, and the new evacuations this morning we hear that the sheriff is going door to door. They are letting the residents know, time to get out now. You can understand why. So close to the homes. It is hard. There are so many animal loves and it is hard to watch the horses so close to the fire on two sides, now, and meteorologist mike nicco is joining us. You have been saying they are experiencing, again, another hot day the another hot day with temperatures in the 90s and what you will notice, like year, it looked like a Mushroom Cloud and the winds are light, the environment winds, so expect that to happen again and around the fire itself, the winds are pick up and that will suck in more oxygen and keep the fires going and the temperatures are in the 50s in the valleys, the 70s in the mountains, all will jump up into the 90s in the afternoon. What we are seeing is a byproduct of the west winner we had. We needed the wet winter but we knew it was also going to create new vegetation and that vegetation died out and now we have all of this fuel for the fire to feed on fires are describing this vegetation being extremely dry and that is a surprise to some people who thought we had a wet winner. It didnt help . A it helped the water table and the lakes and the reservoirs but during this time of year it is always the hottest. It is the driest. We are susceptible. This is our fire season. A we will monitor and we will get to alexis smith tracking traffic conditions. Matt keller did a good job in the last live hit on the scene of the loma fire. At the love the roads are small and rural roads that are impacted. You can imagine a lot of them are dirt roads and just one lane roads. It is tough to navigate. There are some steep conditions. As far as we know, c. H. P. Has the following areas closed off, highland way and loma prieta road, and mount bache according to the sheriff officials. And highland way and Mount Madonna and pole line roads are closed and this morning, the newest information from matt is that the evacuations are taking place on croy road and little uvas. All areas to avoid. People people who are here are responding to the fire or live in the area. If you can avoid it we recommend it. You can see, some of the firefighters are getting very close to the edge of the property and they are next to the barn where there are horses in the pen outside of it and cal fire is saying evacuations are taking place on croy road and little uvas road where matt keller has been telling us about all morning as the fire continues to get very close to the structures. Now, it is protectty adjacent to a home there. It is burn on both sides of the property. This all started yesterday. We know that one structure is all they were able to confirm, one structure has burned. And it is not clear at this point in that was a home. From there, the fire just exploded. They are describing very dry vegetation and fast moving fire and explosive in nature and it moved through the canyon so quickly and very fast, very rough steep terrain making it difficult to get equipment in to and get into the very remote areas that people live in. This is a limited amount of resources they have compared to how big the fire is, especially at this home right now, and, again, we are looking at a hole that appears to be a barn there that has a number of animals and the horses are running around away from the flames.
