Sky 7 was overhead a few hours ago as smoke blew across lanes of traffic towards Good Samaritan hospital. Fire crews put out the fire. Fire crews who were mowing dry grass in an effort to prevent fires started a fire this afternoon. Sky 7 flew over the aftermath. Fire crews called for additional help, including water dropping helicopters to put out the flames. Heavy smoke is pouring out of the hills and into the sky from the largest of 15 active wildfires burning in california tonight. Those bright flames show you that the fire is still growing. Air tankers made drops over the fire today, which is more than 70,000 acres in size. As it burns for a fifth straight day, 1,500 homes are threatened, 45 buildings are destroyed, including a church and school. The fire is 35 files from the park. The park is not in danger of burning and remains open. Visitors are being warned about respiratory problems from the smoke. 5,000 people keep in mind are out of their homes tonight and new evacuation orders were issued a few hours ago. This fire is still growing at this end as the flames move closer to town. While cal fire has been able to slow the spread of the overall fire today, its expected to grow in the days to come. Despite an aggressive air attack and the efforts of thousands of firefighters on the ground, the fire continues to grow now consuming more than 70,000 acres and dozens of structures, including this, the 76yearold Little Church in the hill in the tiny city. Its going to continue to grow. We need people to understand that. This fire is weather driven, its terrain driven and its fuel driven. Reporter there are at least two dozen homes destroyed by the fire and so far at least two firefighters working on the frontlines have suffered minor injuries. Its a mess. One of our friends just lost their house. Reporter many who have lost their homes wont know for a while as many of the major highways remain closed. This couple were among those turned around. This is a helicopter thats been making water drops. Weve seen those big tankers dropping retardant. Firefighters saying theyve tried to take advantage of the weather today, cooler temperatures. The winds for the most part have stayed down and the humidity is high. Simpson was acquitted, but found liable in court. Senator john mccain has been diagnosed with an aggressive incurable type of brain cancer, but he will soon be back in washington. The tumor was discovered after a surgery to remove a blood clot. Its a grade four cancer. Thats the highest on the scale. For men over 50 the recovery rate over five years is 5 . Senator mccains illness underscores the need for cancer drugs, but there is a shortage of seven cancer drugs due to limited production capacity. An effort is under way in the bay area to try to limit that. Reporter about 400 of the more than 1,200 drugs in development at firms in california focus on cancer. This Company Develops and manufactures some of them and its expanding capacity by 1 3. For years Cancer Patients and doctors have faced a shortage of supplies of oncology medicines. In some cases patients have to wait months if not longer to get medicines. This facility is going to try to address that shortage. Cell technology is expensive. The state of california is providing 25 million in tax incentives. For patients whose lives are on the line, increasing drug production has no price tag. There are several drugs that theyre working on, both in our Inhouse Research and also from external partners and at least two of which have potential to also treat the brain cancer that john mccain suffers from right now.
