Quick song quick by any from Ohio right Pete what can you tell us about this band Oh sure a from Ohio they're from out in McLean Virginia and they were one of my from Ohio no story behind that but let's not go away. Yet any from Ohio is one of my favorite bands through the late ninety's and early 2008 and used to go to pretty much every show they did in Northern California and record them. Died in the wool and they called and we were finally able to get them to play up to play acting farm you know. In the summer of 1009. 100000 at one of the. Concert in barbecue we used to have out there. Anyway from Ohio. To go. To. Bigger than. I want to be young. Again. God league. Going to be beautiful. Quick by Eddie from Ohio actually Murphy well as an amazing voice. What a pleasure to them to listen to their. Next stop is and one of Baker by the Dr Branch fire squad and I've chosen this band to show some of the roots of songs in its bluegrass connections yes the founders of the oak song. Barry and Moline went bury him and Bruce and Linda went were very much into bluegrass they were very active members of California bluegrass music. And when. He was founded in 1999. It was largely founded as a vehicle to bring bluegrass music to the north and the very 1st concert act. Run was a bluegrass concert with the group lonesome highway and through the years Dr Brash fire squad was yet another one of a bluegrass band that. The 1st president and only president and. Tell me. He brought in a fire squad and they played it all of the venues that we had it with through the years and there has been absolutely fun band. Yeah and tell us about the front porch and the beginnings there with. The very 1st show like it was Lost Highway and they literally had it on the front porch Bruce and Linda went out put the word out and 250 people showed up and. Absolutely I wish I had been there to see it through there for. The whole trick the whole thing. But yeah that's kind of got music the rolling and through the years they played at a great pine farm and to put it up there a absolutely beautiful music at the concert and barbecues later on Hawaii. And that went on for years they branched out and started doing shows in Redding at Bernie's guitar and then a little bit later at the our current home at the Pilgrim Church in Redding. Or we're going to do the track by a bill to be a. Little bit about. Build. Well I mentioned about the. Hawaii luau shows. One of the 1st. Part of the 1st oil luau show it was one of these ideas that Barry thought was absolutely loopy but I kept pampering on any Finally real. And we had a close to 400 people show up act a great pine farm for that so obviously touched a nerve and the point luau shows became a staple of. Our. Programming and Pavel show every year all the way till now. At the time he played it at Grapevine farm a strapping 97 years old probably the oldest actively touring musician in the world . Behaves like a 20 year old. That really shows through his music gurney Ok We're going to go do and a lot of maker and then we're going to listen to that little grass track afterwards . Ok Dr Branch fire squad and next up is. Their all to p.r. . Oh I'm glad you said. Here we go. I want to play along a little crush on intelligence for advice. I don't want to be with them why do you meet the deadline Oolong the drome. I can be a real player one day big standing on. A knife can do anything you believe why ain't saying. Coalmining no. Holding a wallet trial it won't be long till my ship sailing the night job for non for examiners looking for the coffin. And running all. The good things yeah baby is John King. Just me and no one boy am I going to invite you to my position my horny are wanting for me find your little brother come see if you go into my. Always will be moving morning it's a club you'll. Always know Meanwhile new moves in the new form. The. didn't. And now we're going on too. Simple. An absolutely wonderful person actually. A well known. Country musician I guess would be the best way to put it. Has been a pleasure to get. Up and you're that girl. Why a simple girl by Stacy Earle and now more variety with Riverside Drive by George Cole You know I think if I might interject I hope folks who are listening really get the idea that. All of these people are what we would consider as a way cool music and one of them has something really wonderful to offer and when folks come to an oak song Music Society show may not be the most well known artist but something that you can come and. Really enjoy and kind of walk away going wow this is someone I'd never heard of before but some of the I want to keep following you up and I discovered. What I'm what a pleasure What a pleasure Ok Riverside Drive for George Cole and you had a cabaret set up for a church called was that the 1st took every type sort of you had what you. Yes George came to us and he said I'm going to bring my trio George place basically. Another type of music very very popular around here but he was bringing a trio and needed a piano which was too large for us to bring on stage so what we ended up doing was set up the band in the middle of our where the audience would be in a range round him in what we called cabaret style and we all dressed up and. I did indeed everybody with the whole idea was to transform the Pilgrim Church into a Harlem night club of the 1930 s. And forty's and we all had a ripper and good time and George called. Spirit other and man what a memorable concert that was. All over the map all Wakool Yeah r.k. Here we go. Warm welcome to the group who you were with Absence rising star. Since playing for us became a member of David Grisman quintet the absolute pinnacle of modern jazz music in the country today Joe Craven was a part of David Grisman quintet 2 on and off for years often oh yeah oh you know and of course Joe Craven has been with performed a number of times he said other one of those guys who comes in a 1000000 different guys. From present his solo thing where he makes music out of. Anything too. Much or any biologist breaking. After African rhythms to. His local band craving the sometime or and then the last spring we had him with painted mantle and bring the sounds of Jerry Garcia which reaches back to a very familiar place in my heart the Grateful Dead are well aware that. Listeners might not know that but you are kind of a Deadhead. Now the next what is we are each other's angels by proxy I really appreciate that song you know and I hope our listeners will as well yes indeed and Chuck is probably the friend of the old song music. Playing house concerts. Barry back before he moved up to run and Barry actually managed a career for a spell back out in the Bay Area so very special place in our heart. I think you'll see why when you listen to we are each other. To have. To go to Brodsky a moment I am. You're listening to the eclectic hour on can't carry on any point 5 f.m. Not commercial it's only volunteer there's nothing like it. Ok the harder song is by the Rio Grande. In a horse. And I know that you have an association with. Actually my wife and I 1st. At Telluride bluegrass festival playing with pure Rowand and just absolutely not we were living in Colorado at the time a. Regular journeys over to Denver about 200 miles away from where we were living at the time. That's. Probably one of the best. Mexican American. Singer songwriter's around and it really shines through. Very much appreciate. That I have of hers I think I know most people but I have. To buy the Rio Grande by tensional. We're going to follow up with a flame by. Any. Group of ladies that my wife and I adore we very much enjoy them you know she. Was one of the real discoveries that Barry he had their very big kind of in a very big small way if you know what I mean the in San Francisco and Barry was the 1st one to bring them to the north. And they have since become very popular. And. Amazing music. Right now here we go back. That. Hard not to like and absolutely it's very very catchy they're very clever so songwriters and great performers. Now next up we're going to get on a John Deere tractor with Dear John John Deere barbarically Hart. Hart was actually very 1st. Group that I brought in when I 1st was asked to start doing the booking for the Oaks on music back in 2008 and I've been doing that ever since and still have you know. Jeff Merkley in town a heart she writes songs a little to. Get right to the meat of the matter right to your heart those who are at the dog show that you did last week heard to hide my name. Yeah yeah but these are folks who are incredibly talented. And. I'm glad you exposed me to Berkeley hard because I had never heard of them and after I heard them I was a big fan and there will always be because I think they really have written some wonderful songs and Heroes is kind of a fun song as one of our I think from one of their later C.D.'s. And it's just gone so here we go. Definitely one of their more rock and numbers and actually Jeff Berkeley in addition to his work with Berkeley Hart he's also part of Tim Flannery in the lunatic fringe of course the 3rd base coach for the San Francisco Giants who has made a big splash in the music world and I suspect a lot of our listeners have gone to the 2nd scene Flannery there myself included Ok yeah and now we're going to go. On to If I Should Fall Behind by Robin and Linda Williams And that's where I bet you and your wife oh we met prior to but all that's right the gory very 1st the very 1st time I met you I was in Chico to tell us the robin and Linda Williams And as usual I tried to sit in the front and so did you so I sat next to you and your wife got to know each other better from reading your from reading where how. To get to John. F. Lee have brought Robert and Linda a couple of times to reading. Their shows are always magical Yes Ok We're going to we're going to go for Robin Lehner Williams right now if I Should Fall Behind. Really wall to. Robin Illinois and now we're going to go on to John McCutcheon John McCutcheon is one of my favorite singers songwriters and I feel that he took up the mantle of peace. And almost every program I've ever done in the last year and a half included John MacArthur song and this is no different His shows are always so special because he plays every instrument under the sun and brings them all to every show so you're getting incredible. When you see him play live in him going when he does the Hammond hammered dulcimer it's quite stunning you have to see it to believe in absolutely all right we're going to The Greatest Story Never Told. All right John McCutcheon you know one of the things. About Music Society shows you get to actually meet and interact with musicians and people who come to the shows. And it's really a pleasure like one big house concert it's like a happy family you better hurry eating community yes now are one of my our no other my musical heroes Freeborough And also we're here to offer and we're going to try to fit the song and we have just about enough time you know. When. Well we don't want to have any regrets. Here take us out. Thanks Craig just a final word if anyone out there wants to learn more about the oak song. Please visit our Web page w.w.w.
