Youve really been watching this take place. Whats happening now . Reporter we have learned that overnight there was a small flareup and firefighters were called out here to put it out. This was for a fire that was on sunday. But right now what theyre doing, they have a bulldozer out here. This gentleman has been working for quite some time. And what theyre doing is clearing an area for arson investigators to get in and take a look around these former kntv studios. And what theyre doing, theyre focusing on an area behind the yellow tape there. The fire so hot it actually bent some of the metal, but thats where they think its possible this fire started on sunday. They started on this abandoned building with that bulldozer very early this morning, and trying to find a cause. The debris got so hot in this fivealarm fire, that twisted piece of the metal didnt come down easy. They were all tangled within each other. But within 30 minutes, arson investigators finally got their first look at a source. And also, possibly, anyone who didnt make it out of this fire. This massive fire on sunday destroyed the building on park avenue, where Homeless People had set up camp inside. One man told us that he believed that all 14 people inside who were staying there made it out. Firefighters tell us they need to confirm that, and of course, determine what started it. Once we get an idea about the location and the cause, and well go and continue to do some more work with the bulldozers and try to level out some more areas to make sure its safe before we bring the cadaver dogs in. Now, right now, firefighters are just calling this suspicious. What theyre telling us is that theyre going to be bringing in some thermal Imaging Equipment a little bit later on to make sure that the hot spots are, indeed, out, to get those cadaver dogs in here. Earlier, they had told us they hoped to get those cadaver dogs in here this afternoon, but now theyre telling us that the dogs are actually quite far away. It so looks like, instead, theyre going to be bringing in accelerant dogs, hoping to get them in today or this afternoon to take a look around and to see if there was any accelerant used. We asked how long this investigation might take, and theyre telling us that it could take a couple of weeks. Reporting live in san jose, christie smith, nbc bay area news. Lots of information there still to get. Thank you so much, christie. In the meantime, a massive fire that torched an apartment complex that was under construction in mission bay has been ruled accidental. That building just south of at t park in San Francisco was to hold 172 apartments before a fire destroyed the Building Back in march. San Francisco Department report says a hot or smoldering object on the exterior of the building ignited, then spread to the rest of the construction site. All contractors and construction workers did make it out safely. The company that owned the building said their insurance policy would cover the cost of replacing the building and any lost revenue. Well, we are learning more this morning about the miami Police Investigation that named 49ers quarterback, colin kaepernick. Kaepernick is named in a suspicious incident, which is what theyre calling it, involving a woman at a miami apartment. The woman said she drank and smoked pot with the 49ers star and two other nfl players. She then said she woke up in a hospital room, not knowing exactly how she got there. However, in the incident report, the woman refused to leave the apartment and a friend of kaepernick actually called the police twice for help. The report also says that kaepernick was not at the apartment when Police Arrived to check on the woman. A Security Guard from a San Jose Hospital under arrest, charged with molesting children years ago. Derek hammond was arrested last month. Not clear why the public was just now learning about the case. Hammond was hired by Santa Clara County to provide security at valley medical center. Not sure what led investigators to hammond or how many children hes accused of molesting. But police say all of his alleged victims are now adults. Hes also charged with possessing child pornography. San jose may have found a solution to end the citys shortage of police officers. Today, Santa Clara County supervisors will talk about letting sheriffs deputies help out San Jose Police. The idea came after the city was only able to fill about half of the open 60 slots in the most recent police academy. The leftover cash could go to pay for sheriffs deputies. Some people in the area, with rising crime rates, support this idea. But san joses mother is not so sure. They have extras and, yeah, it makes sense to send them to the area that has more crime. I just dont think its a practical idea. I assume that somehow the county sheriff has a whole bunch of deputies sitting around looking for work. I think theyre pretty busy. The plan would run for up to two years until the city can fill its ranks. Two burglary suspects still at large following a massive search in palo alto. Mercury news reports an uninterrupted burglary happened around 8 00 last night when a Police Arrested one of the three suspects less than a mile away on maddox drive, San Jose Police helicopters searched for the remaining two suspects until about 10 00 p. M. Less than a month ago, another interrupted burglary happened on ames avenue about a block away from last nights burglary. It led to an hours long standoff but those two suspects also got away. 11 05 now. Today does mark the oneyear anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.
