Theyve been through droughts before and they tell us theyve had practice at it, and know what to do. Especially in the situation that theyre watching everything they to when it comes to water. When they turn on the faucets, they say theyre taking shorter showers, and many tell us theyre not watering their lawns anymore. Many restaurants across the tri valley area are not serving customers water unless its specifically requested. Some Restaurant Owners say they see a lot of full water glasses left on the table at the end of meals, and it can quickly add up. Today, at the Alameda County fairgrounds in pleasanton, people from all different faiths were invited to come pray for rain. Firefighters a pr it was a pretty good turnout. The chapter of the council on American Islamic relations. Theyve been told by officials they will not be getting any water from the state water project, which supplies 80 of the regions water each year. Now, this region is forced to conserve water and also to rely on local reservoirs and underground wells for supply. Kimberly, thank you. We did see extreme drought change over to exceptional drought to the areas down to watsonville. The difference on the map shows you that now were talking about localized emergencies due to the water restrictions. It does not get any worse than it does right now around the Salinas Valley up to fresno. You can see still pretty far behind, 18 of where we should be in the central sierra, around lake tahoe. The reservoir to the south of san jose should be closer to 43 . Right now sitting at 30 . We will see those levels drop as more people tap into the reserves. Good news for the rain in the second half the weekend. It will impact your weekend forecast but could bring muchneeded rain back to the bay area. We have new information tonight on a shooting that started with a fight in east san jose. One man is in the hospital right now, and the gunman is still on the loose. San jose police say the victim and his friends got into an argument with a group of people last night on oak gateway. According to police, one person pulled out a gun and started shooting. Police shut down the intersection for several hours during that investigation. F. And in fremont, Police Arrested a man for attempted homicide. It happened at the el camino bar after 1 00 this morning. The man, miguel vargas, reportedly got into an argument with the Security Guard and was asked to leave. Vargas went home and got a gun, and reportedly fired several shots into the bar toward the Security Guard. Remarkably nobody was hit. The Security Guard chased vargas and held him until police arrived. An update on the case of an east bay woman who was held hostage as a sex slave for decades. The officer who helped save her is speaking out today. Raul ochoa pleaded guilty to rape charges. Hes likely to spend 20 years in prison. He began abusing the victim when she was just 12 years old. And at the age of 27, she was able to escape and went straight to the Richmond Police department. The officer said when she came in, he knew immediately something bass wrong. She was trying to report herself as a runaway. I knew she looked above 18. I asked her how old she was, she said 27. I was like, well, 27yearolds dont have to run away. They can just leave. Youre an adult. And thats when it kind of started hitting me that she socially, she wasnt acting like a 27yearold. Ochoa is scheduled to be formally sentenced on february 11th. A livermore family is safe tonight after firefighters knocked down this house fire. Fire crews received a call about a garage fire around 11 00 this morning. It spread to an inlaw unit and two bedrooms. Neighbors knocked on the front door to alert the family inside and all three people, plus their pets, got out safely. Firefighters are now trying to figure out what started it. More on the super bowl now. And essentially became a star, even though he is the star running back for the seattle seahawks. At the time he was a star running back for the oakland technical high school. But right now, he is a running back for the seattle seahawks. You know that team that beat the 49ers. Lynch is an oakland native, cal football star, and a force to be reckoned with on that seahawks team. But hes loved here in the oakland bay area. I caught up with his former coach, delton edwards, and he said a lot of people knew marshawn would reach the top when it comes to football. About coaching marshawn, you coached him since the very beginning. Hes a special kid. Youve got a lot of kids with talent here, given the right opportunity they shine. And it just he had the opportunity. What makes him special . Well, the hard work he puts in. Everybody sees him working out every day, seven days a week. Running hills, lifting. Hes a hard worker. And this is something that a lot of people dont know about Marshawn Lynch. He really gives back to his community. During thanksgiving he gives out turkeys. And during july, he also holds football camps, and some of them take place right here at the High School Football field. But Marshawn Lynch gets a bad rap when it comes to talking to the media. So edwards says he just doesnt like talking to the media. He likes to prove everything on the football field. I also asked the coach to do that move, and he said hes too old for that. Whats going on with you, rob . The pictures in the sierra quite nice. Best skiing weve seen in quite some time with the recent snow there. Next weekend we could see a really good snow producer coming into the sierra. Good news for next weekend. Tomorrows forecast could bring rain to san jose. Right now a perfect evening. High clouds going on by. Temperatures have dropped off into the 50s, mostly clear right now, onshore winds in San Francisco 54 degrees. You can see the flag there blowing. Not much fog. Weve got high clouds coming in. You notice at the bottom of the screen in the sevenday forecast, yes, we are talking about a chance of rain as we head into tomorrow. Our temperatures around the rest of the bay area, still upper 50s inland around the tri valley, livermore, to the south, 57 degrees. 56 currently in san jose. The change were going to see tomorrow is an area of low pressure that will do something a little strange. It will not really move west to east but drop down the coast and head into Santa Barbara and los angeles. We will start to see the clouds on the increase. By the time you wake up tomorrow morning, even though a lot of the rain will be offshore, this will be close enough to bring us finally a little more rain to the bay area especially out to the coasted. The timing with this system. Tomorrow, youve got the clouds spilling on in. Tomorrow morning well start to see some showers rotating on in. Notice these areas in yellow and orange, and it almost looks sort of popcornlike offshore. Thats cold air aloft. Relatively warmer air below there on the oceans surface. Instability will increase during the day tomorrow. So its possible some of those heavier showers, especially around the monterey peninsula, and salinas and west of San Francisco and pacifica you could have thunder with those showers. Notice how inland east of sacramento not a whole lot of moisture. Most of this will hang up on the Coastal Range and dive south. By this time tomorrow evening well see those showers actually move out of the bay area into southern california. The rainfall totals with this system, not impressive, but anything is good at this point. It looks like we should see close to 1 4 of an inch of rain down the north bay and down the coast. The mountains to the south may see up to 1 2 inch of rain. Much cooler day tomorrow as you see in the temperatures, highs tomorrow dropping quite a bit from today. We had the highs in the 60s. Tomorrow, low 50s in the forecast. Sneak preview the next seven days. Tuesday to wednesday, next week relatively dry. Watch what happens here. Next weekend, a good looking system dropping into the bay area. That has the potential for maybe two to three feet of snow. If that pattern holds up for next weekend. Tomorrow well be looking at some showers. Look at these temperatures, much cooler. Mid50s around the south bay. Peninsula low 50s. San francisco 54 degrees. North bay, highs no longer in the low 60s. Low to mid50s to wrap up the weekend. 52 in danville. 55 degrees in pleasanton. Back to the work week, skies start to clear into monday. The temperatures start to rebound into the upper 50s to near 60 by thursday. Good news by next weekend, though, the dry weather moves on and we should see a good snow and rain producer headed back our way toward the end of that sevenday forecast. Diane, back to you. Organizers insisted they are not concerned about snow conditions anymore, saying the forecast for fresh powder is all but guaranteed. The higher mountains there finally have some snow. But the coastal areas remain relatively mild, without a snowflake in sight. Five additional weather reporting stations have been set up at olympic venues and were told olympic organizers have stored about 6,000 tons of snow just in case. Police arrested several people today in San Francisco for protesting the citys nudity ban. They held what they called a body freedom parade in the castro district. Were here to protest the nudity ban. This is the oneyear anniversary of the ban. It criminalizes the human body. It teaches us to be ashamed of who we essentially are. Somehow its a crime to appear in your most natural state. We had to be very careful editing this video. There are exceptions under the nudity ban for children under 5 and certain events. Very nice. That was 1 million worth of fireworks lighting up the sky in hong kong. More than 300,000 people crowded into victoria harbor to watch the Chinese New Year celebration. There was also a parade through downtown streets to celebrate the start of the year of the horse. In the south bay people gathered to celebrate the vietnamese new year. The festival started today at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds. The celebration has grown over the last 20 years. They said they need a venue like the fairgrounds because it can accommodate up to so many people, about 30,000.
