Has been very active late this afternoon and you can see part of the fire crews on top of this building here right off Market Street. Again, just to describe the location as we mentioned its at delores and 14th. Its a block from the brand new whole foods there on Market Street and right across the street is the safeway building. Very busy intersections. Were looking at on the left is the picture, the live picture of whats happening now. On the right is what this building looked like not long ago. This was 15, maybe 20 minutes ago. That picture on the right tells the story. Our nbc chopper was covering a protest. The nbc chopper was on site above structure before San Francisco fire arrived and this is all happening in the last 15 or 16 minutes. You can see the progress made your honor right. On the left the live picture of the smoke. You see the progress thats been made. Im looking at google maps at the top of that building. It looks like theres a roof deck, perhaps not penthouse maybe at the top floor of that billing but theres a roof deck up above that maybe barbecue that kind of thing up there that may have started this. Mindy did mention it started on the roof on some type of patio or deck and spread throughout the building. Thats the latest we have. The fire is burning at delores and 14th street. Looks like firefighters are getting the upper hand but were seeing flames pop up. Well monitor this story throughout the newscast and report back any updates. This is happening in San Francisco in the castro. Its a waste of water and a hazard for drivers. Water main broke not far from santana road and its still not been fixed. The constant flow of water is dani damaging the road. Well see how bad the street is. Reporter well, the water main line thats leaking here has been going on for 48 hours now. Take a look here on the ground. What started out as a three inch crack on sunday night has grown to three feet with the area bubbling and softening. If you follow me this way and step to this area, i can step to an area where i can put my foot on here and you can see this is just soft and just feels like carpet padding to me. It should be much stronger. Dont forget were in a drought so all this water is traveling down the street into a storm drain being wasted pun residents couldnt bear the waste and started scooping out the water to use it on her garden. Neighbors have been calling san se Water Company for days now. They came within 30 minutes of the first call. You can even see the crews have marked the streets where the repairs might have to begin but they havent been back since. Her driver way is right by the Water Main Leak says shes now afraid to drive her car into the garage. Its very soft and mushy. Driving over it would definitely be out of question. Its sad to see not only the waste of the water in a drought but also to see the cost of repairs go up so much. James king of san jose Water Company said in part in statement that calls are prioritized. More severe leaks are given a higher priority and can take many days to repair leaks because of the availability of personnel and volume of severity of leaks in the system. The bottom line is you can still see the water is still rushing out and cracking the street. The bottom line is residents here dont know how long it will take to repair this because the Water Company has not said when theyll be able to come out. A mess indeed there in san jose. Were also following developing news back in San Francisco now. Our nbc chopper overhead. This is not the scene we wanted to go to. We wanted to go to scene in france where theres a twitter protest. The only donation they asked for was a dollar. Tonights story takes that notion to a smaller denomination. Reporter not too long ago a kindergarteners mom walked into the Principals Office to ask if she could hold a bake sale at the school. She was told no but the principal said she had to good reasons for doing so. One at a school where 96 of the students severed free or reduced price lunches bake sales arent allowed. The other. Tha not going to be enough. I know a bake sale will only give you 100 when this mother needs more than that. Reporter thats because the mother was trying to raise money to pay for her sons cancer treatment. Hes been a little better but youll see him coming to the bathroom and hell say my stomach, i feel very sick. Can i go home. Reporter while she had to tell her mom the request was denied, she told Craig Herrera timing was perfect. The motto is dream big, work hard and give back. Every march is when the give gak happens. When members of the Student Council meant to choose how to give back this year, they didnt have to look far. What could these kids among the poorest of the bay areas poor afford to give. The answer may have just been pennies but it was a lot of pennies. Thank you. Reporter every morning during the month of march students passed a plastic bucket from room to room. Every morning students dug into their pocket an emptied their piggy banks to give and every day the tidal wave of change grew. In the end close to 2,000, much of it one penny at a time. When you step back and just sow the seeds, instigate a little bit of greatness in them, they will surprise you. Reporter it may not be everything the sick boys family needs but it may just be a lesson we all need about giving what you can even when its just a little. Thats great. 2,000. Absolutely. Thats not the end of the story because Community Members heard about what they did and how much the kids raised an they pushed that number over 10,000 for this family fighting cancer.
