At this hour, investigators are still questioning the man who has not yet been classified a suspect. But is apparently somehow involved in this series of violent acts. Investigators are busy with two crime scenes right now to figure out how a homicide and possible homicide are connected. Just before 11 00 a. M. , Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office responded it a report of shots fired at ma drone drive in red wood estates near los gat yoes. Inside, investigators found a bloody hectic scene. One person was transported and medically treated with nonlife threatening injuries. Another person was treated by fire and ems. Everybody knows everyone. So it is a very unusual occurrence. An alert went out for a silver toyota prius that neighbors saw leaving the scene. It was spotted later near lark avenue. A prius crashed into a wall or barrier on the hamilton avenue exit. The driver fled on foot. Later detained. The passenger was transported to Valley Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The passenger that was later pronounced dead, any gunshot wounds, anything like that . It is undetermined at this point. Im sorry it hear that because we have a feeling up here that that doesnt happen here. And again at this hour, the questioning of the person of interest continues. It happened this morning on lansing avenue on highway 85. Officers were initially responding to a car accident when they suddenly saw the attack. Officers found a round at the suspect and used their tasers. Department said they had no effect and the suspect kept attacking. They used another round from their gun. There is little doubt in my mind that these officers prevented a homicide in this city and that these officers actions saved a live today. The woman attacked and the suspect shot by police are expected to survive. More pressure to step down. New calls it knit for San Franciscos police chief to resign. But this time the calls are coming from city leaders. Supervisors jane kim, david campos and john avalos says the Department Needs a new chief that can implement major reform. The decisions are based on the findings of a review panel. Saying there are systemic problems of racial bias in the department. His resignation has been called for. Richmond police say you are watching thieves steal a cannon from the Veterans Hall. Thank you. Two Sheriff Deputies in Alameda County accused of Excessive Force were arrested today and are free on bail. They are charged with felonies. They repeatedly struck a suspected kr thief as seen on this surveillance video. The driver was hospitalized with a concussion and broken bones. Deputies claimed they used force because they feared for their lives. They are suspended now from the sheriffs department. Only on nbc bay area tonight, a big stink over the trash in the south bay. Trucking more than 200 tons of it everyday to the gaut lupy landfill. The complaint is that it might stink . That is one of the complaints and more trash means more trucks and people here are very concerned about more trucks coming here to the gaut lupy landfill. They are also concerned about the smell. Today hans went door to door passing out flyers to neighbors in san jose. He wants them to know about plans to haul 220 tons more trash to the landfill across the street. All because the lupita city council awarded the waste facility a new contract. Itll be nose to tail along this residential street in addition we have all of the diesel fumes. Neighbors here are also worried the extra trash will bring a stench with it but Waste Management spokesman said the landfill is not the source. We are continuing our investigation into a state agency called the bureau of Automotive Repair. Created to protect consumers from shady auto shops and dealerships. Even when businesses are caught doing something wrong we discovered their bad track record is often kept secret and were also exposing how millions of dollars that should be refunded to consumers may sometimes end up in the wrong hands. This is my first mitsubishi. When matt morris bought this used car, he thought it had everything he wanted. Leather seats in the back. He said he later discovered it was missing something he didnt even know he needed. I did not have a catalytic converter. The car was missing that part complete completely . Yeah, completely gone. No. The dealership denied selling him a faulty car so morris filed a complaint with californias bureau of Automotive Repairs. The agency receives roughly 12,000 complaints from consumer each year. But in february we discovered for about 97 of those complaint, Auto Repair Shops never face any kind of discipline. For 10,000 cases you couldnt find anything . A lot of them are mediated and taken care of with educational conferences with the shop. Patrick heads the bureau of Automotive Repair and told us state law seriously limits when the state agency can site an Auto Repair Shop. Mainly advocating by consumers by reaching out to the shops on their behalf. That process won consumers over 5 million in refunds and repairs last year. While auto shops mayell consumers they will pay up, we discovered the state bureau doesnt follow up. How soon after that did you get the check . I never received a check. Ever . No. The dealership wouldnt take my phone calls. Morris reached out again for bureau of Automotive Repair and said an employee told them the agency doesnt have the power to force businesses it pay up. I remember asking, so they could outright lie to you and theres no repercussions. She said, yes, we dont have the power to do anything. Morris isnt the only one questioning the work. After the original investigation, s a contracosta and Solano County push ferd a new state law to force major changes at the bureau. I think your investigative reporting showed us there were sh gaps here and that the consumer isnt as protected as they could be or should be. Clearly outlining the bureaus power as a watch dog, reinforcing the awilt to issue more fines. And requires the result of all of the bureaus investigations be posted jn line. Right now, details surrounding thousands of complaints are kept secret from the public. Even when the bureau confirms the repair shop took advantage of the consumer. If we post information where we felt they violated the law and they didnt have the chance it defend themselves, we would be in trouble as a governmental agency. Thats plaguing the new eastern thats plaguing the new eastern span of the bay bridge. Flooding at the foundation of now one of many problems plague the new eastern span of the bay bridge. Flooding at the foundation of the big tower. Tomorrow though caltrans will reveal how it plans to deal with that problem. Nbc bay area Investigative Reporter tells us the fix could add tens of millions to the project that is already running 90 million in the red. The Tower Foundation behind me is water logged. Cracked during construction. Posing the risk of corrosion over the longterm. Our investigation shows that fixing this problem wont be easy and could cost millions of dollars in years to come. Three years after the bridge opened caltrans is still dealing with water trouble on the 6. 5 billion span. Its been a lot of work. A long hard road. But everyone has a good sense of this is important to do. Water first became an issue when metal rods left standing in rain water failed in 2013. A year later caltrans learned that water invaded the steal and concrete foundation of the 525foot tall tower. The problem was blamed on cracks in the foundation. Meanwhile, caltrans blamed the contractor for not properly grouting to protect anchor rods that became flooded. We started laying, pulling back layers of the onion and we found a few more problems, few more problems until we diagnosed the whole thing. Caltrans wants a 10 million fix that involves replacing the old grout and putting in new material for a water tight seal. With grout surrounding them, rods are expected to be even stronger. But the process could take two more years. And comes with a hefty price tag for a cashstrapped project. Im asking for 10 million of construction funds. And on top of that, few Million Dollars for Capital Support on top of that. That hurts. No doubt about it. Still, corrosive water remains inside the foundation itself. Caltrans wants another 1 million to develop a plan to monitor and protect against corrosion that the water might cause. A complete Protection System could cost 10 million. Maroney says fixing the grout will be key to solving the spans water problems. Yeah. I think were there. Im excited about that.
