North korea saying it is, quote, seriously reviewing plans to launch missile strikes on guam. That is a u. S. Territory and home to a Key Air Force base. So what was the timing of this . It followed a harsh warning hours earlier from President Trump that any further threats from kim jong un would be met with, quote, fire and fury like the world has never soon. The escalating war of words had an Immediate Impact on wall street and overnight major markets in asia and europe dropped as well. Our team is ready to break this all down starting with nbc chief Foreign Affairs correspondent andrea mitchell. It was a chilling response to thunderous words to President Trump after reports of an intelligence assessment that kim jong un was closer to having a Nuclear Weapon than thought. This morning, touching down in guam, the same territory threatened overnight by north korea. I have no concerns about this particular rhetoric of the last few days. I think the president , again, as commander in chief, i think he felt it necessary to issue a very strong statement directly to north korea. Reporter tillerson trying to sound reassuring just hours after President Trump fired off a stern warning to north korea to stop threatening the u. S. They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before. Reporter drawing a red line just hours after reports of a Major Nuclear advance by north korea. Following President Trumps tough talk, north korea issued a threat of its owns are announcing in a statement it was carefully examining plans to attack the u. S. Territory of guam with medium to longrange ballistic missile. 6,000 american troops are stationed on the remote Pacific Island where the u. S. Operates a Critical Air Force base in the region. An official tells nbc news kim jong un may now have a miniature Nuclear Warhead, small enough to fit inside one of his longrange missiles, a missile that could reach the u. S. Mainland. It still has to survive reentry but experts say thats a matter of when, not if. President trump is strongly hinting at a preemptive strike, h. R. Mcmaster not ruling out nuclear war. And north korea could retaliate against 25 Million People in seoul, including had 100,000 americans and 28,000 u. S. Troops stationed there. The u. S. Has recently successfully tested missile defenses from the west coast, hitting a test missile over the pacific, but the system is not fool proof. Meanwhile the president s Strong Language is being criticized by laei leading lawmakers of both parties, Dianne Feinstein calling his statements bombastic and john mccain the great leaders ive seen, they doesnt threaten unless they are ready to act. Now this morning the president tweeting a more balanced message that the u. S. Nuclear arsenal is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before. Is this the president giving kim jong un a taste of his own medicine, maybe his own vocabulary or is it going to make a bad situation worse . I think its irrelevant actually. When i first heard the remarks, i thought kim jong un had said those remarks. I think its just for consumption by each side and consumption in korea is it dangerous . Do the words matter in this context . Words usually do matter but the president has a tendency to be bombastic all the time and i think to the extent that this is about war, its really important, but to the extent that it really broadcasts what were going to do, its not. Lets not dismiss the words so quickly. We all remember shock and awe in iraq. Fire and fury as a military guide, jack, what do you read into fire and fury . Is this conventional weaponry or is he threatening Something Else . Well, the suggestion is were going to use Nuclear Weapons against north korea. Theres a qualitative difference between fire and fury using Nuclear Weapons and shock and awe using nonnuclear means. Its just to scare north korea and see what they do next. Nicole, when someone says Something Like what President Trump yesterday, he draws a line in the sand. Then the question is do our adversaries cross that line . Shortly after that north korea said theyre looking at plans to attack guam, which is a u. S. Territory. By the very fact that they said that, didnt they cross the line . Sure. And, listen, this president ran as someone who almost in like a seinfeld way was going to be the opposite of barack obama in every shape and form. He has now drawn a far more stark, far more inflammatory, a far more dangerous red line. And hes the kind of guy who would be sort of shamed into keeping up with his own words. So the language is so stunning because it contradicts all of the tradition of American Military history. You talk about shock and awe. Those were used after the military phase had begun. By the media, as a matter of fact. Those werent words used during military diplomacy and at the u. N. Security council. This a president that has now used language that he cant put back in the toothpaste tube. Theres a theory of the case that this is all by design, the president uses this hot rhetoric so the North Koreans that the president might be willing to use this force. Do you buy it . No, i think you have to convince the military establishment to go along with it. We have some pretty cool heads there. I thits going to be difficult to convince them to do things like reemti re reemptive attacks. Theyve gotten the attention of our allies and some people in congress. What do you expect to see over the next couple of days in terms of support on this issue . Any time the country goes to war, the president typically enjoys support because our military and people are in harm. On the day that he elevated the chances of that happening, he rebuked by no one currently serving in the military, but Barry Mccaffrey talked to us yesterday. The cooler heads are the secretary of defense, are the generals serving on his own staff and they all seem to believe this is language that will not be matched in the moment by military action. The very first witness was david muell mueller, the former radio d. J. Saying he never touched taylor swift and her accusations cost him his career. David mueller testifying as music superstar taylor swift looked on in the courtroom. What happened when they posed for this photo. Mueller testified as he moved to get into the picture his hand was closed and came into contact with part of her body. I felt what appeared or seemed to be a rib cage or rib or ribs. Mueller described it as jostling, adding our hands touched and our arms touch and said he never lifted her skirt or grabbed her behind. His lawyer argues that the photo supports mule are because her skirt is not visibly ruffled. Two days later, mueller was fired. The hacks aers have now release ransom note threatening more leaks. Reporter this morning the hbo cyber attack getting bigger with news of a second data dump and its targeting more than just hit hbo shows like game of tloe thrones. This is a terrifying situation for people in hollywood. Reporter matt bellamy said hackers emailed them what appear to be internal documents. An upcoming episode and this ransom note addressed to hbo. In the fivemonth video set to ominous music from game of thrones, the hackers call themselves mr. Smith and demand hbo pay them millions of dollars or face even more leaks of sensitive company materials. In a statement, hbo says a forensic review is ongoing. Its working with Cyber Security firms and Law Enforcement to resolve the incident and the company has there is no reason to believe their email system as a whole has been compromised. So far the damaging information has not been significant. Its unclear how deep this cyber rabbit hole will go and how it will compare to the hack that rocked sony pictures. In 2014 cyber crooks released m embarrassi embarrassing emails, personal information and the salary of thousands of employees. With sony, it was a purely hurtful damaging leak. The goal was the leak. Earlier this summer, al announced he had a grand plan, you might say. He wanted to take three kids from brooklyn to his favorite place in the world, the grand canyon. And he did it. How was it . I couldnt have asked for it to be better. Sharing the grand canyon with students that might not have an opportunity to see it. They will tell you their favorite part was the mule ride. But for me, the entire experience was nothing short of awesome. Growing up in a big city, sometimes its tough to see your dreams beyond the city calls. But for these honor students at the uncommon school in brooklyn, new york, they want to believe in a future without limitations. And we wanted to show them the grand possibilities. Reporter and just a few weeks and two plane rides later, it was all happening. Wh who is ready for a train ride . Come on. Our adventure began in williams, arizona. Pet him right there. We were just steps away from seeing one of the most breathtaking sights in the world. This has taken millions and millions and millions of years to form. Oh. Wow. This is so pretty. Reporter no matter how many times i see this, it still takes my breath away. Fantastic. Honestly, i dont have words to describe it. Its very big and tall. And its amazing view. On average, about 14 miles wide. And about one mile deep. You can just imagine how big this place is. Reporter there was so much more to see. But i decided to change our vantage point. Were a little downwind. You smell that . Oh, yeah. Reporter thats odedemule. After a safety demo and a few mule dos and donts, we saddled up and headed out. You can see the river. I see it. Reporter the edge of the canyon, steep. But the spectacular views, worth all the effort. I was nervous at first. But i got used to it. I had an amazing mule. Her name was marcy. So sweet and so kind. My mule name was ikey. And at first, i was so scared. But now, thats my son. Good job. You deserve a pat. Reporter jud could care less if i was on him or not. If i happened to pull left and jed felt like going left, we did. Otherwise, jed was in control. Mules and all, it was a perfect day. To be able to see this while im young, and how it was naturally created, was supercool. So great. This is a good view. Great view, i mean. Amazing. Thats like something i never saw in my life before. Reporter i think its one of these es making an impact on them now, it will stay with them for the rest of their lives. It was magic. As many times as ive been to the grand canyon, i never had a grander time because i got to see it through the eyes of these impressive young people. And for that, ill always be grateful. As i mentioned, its such an unusual upbringing. The movie and the book open where shes cooking at the age of 3 years old and is burned by hot flames. I was thinking, its so strange and unusual. And yet, theres something universal about it. You overcome your past and you scrape by and you make it. I thought about you acting since you were 7 years old and kind of going through that same process in a sense. Could you identify with that aspect of it . I think whats incredible about this story is although it seems like a specific upbringing that not many people would have had, it weirdly has so many general things in it that people relate to. Whether you had an unconventional upbringing or a parent that you dont feel like raised you in the way you wanted to be raised. Theres so many different ways that i think you can look at this story and connect with it. So, thats kind of with this, it was just about connecting with jeannette and telling her story.
