A second crash closer to alum rock. 680 one car reported on fire in planes. Sounds like three vehicles involved as crews arrive on scene, slower drive off the 101, 280interchange. This crash sticks out into your fast lane, slowing on the approach on stoneridge. The rest of the trivalley looking good and the approach toward the dublin interchange. Moments ago this photo was released of the man that ambushed two Police Officers and killed them overnight. The shooter is identified at 46yearold Scott Michael green. The Des Moines Police department say these shootings happened about midnight central time when Police Officers responded to a report of shots fired. They found an urban dale Police Department officer who was shot while sitting in his patrol car. 20 minutes after that, an officer from a Different Department. This one from des moines was also found inside of his patrol car just blocks away. Both of those Police Officers are dead. At a News Conference the Police Spokesperson says there is, quote, clearly danger right now. Were just a few hours into this. It doesnt appear there are any interaction between the two officers and the coward who shot them while they sat in their car. Thats the best weve got. Just another tragic development for the Law Enforcement community and for their families. So far no arrests have been made. Were also learning that one of the local School Districts there is closed today. Well update you on this breaking story throughout the course of our newscast. 6 03. New this morning, b. A. R. T. Service mostly on time despite an incident last night that damaged a train car. An electrical surge on the third rail caused a small explosion that damaged a train approaching the San Francisco montgomery street station. It sent smoke onto the platform and b. A. R. T. Closed that particular station. One passenger explained what happened. All of a sudden there was smoke. He was like, okay, we should get out. Everybody get out. I knew he knew it was going to take a long time. Again, no delays this morning connected to the incident last night. Bob redell will join us with a live report in our next half hour. All right. And then there were three. Today San Franciscos mayor ed lee is expected to receive the names of the three finalists for the citys next police chief. The mayor should be making that decision shortly, even as early as this morning. The Police Commission is keeping it confidential. Sources tell us interim chief Toney Chaplin has made the short list. He stepped in when greg suhr resigned amidst a number of officer involved shootings, the most notable being mario woods who was shot and killed by officers back in december of 2015. When the new chief is selected, he or she will have a number of big ticket items including implementing the use of force reforms, trying to satisfy both the needs of the city as well as the police union. We had a chance to speak with the president of the San Francisco Police Commission about the length think process which she says started with more than 60 candidates. The guiding principle is passing on people that we think were highly qualified with the doj report, everything facing the department to meet the challenge and deliver for the community and the department the department of justice report came out less than a month ago claiming the sfpd used force against africanamericans more than any other racial group, not to mention that africanamericans were pulled over at a disproportionately higher rate. Police say it happened about 8 00 on the 3800 block of black ford avenue off 280 and saratoga avenue. Police say the suspect assaulted the woman and took her wallet and took off. Two men accused of beating a disabled homeless man to death will be arraigned today. A warning that some of the video were about to show you is graphic. 67yearold tai lam was kicked to death almost two years ago as he was sleeping in San Franciscos financial district. This is a Surveillance Video of that attack. Officers called it one of the most brutal killings that they have ever seen. Earlier this week sfpd arrested joseph stull from hide hoe and david peters from stockton after matching their dna to the crime scene. 6 07. Authorities are upping the reward to track down a man accused of shooting and nearly killing his pregnant exgirlfriend. It happened in april in pacifica. Authorities say the 46yearold tried to abduct his exgirlfriend from her job at a Senior Housing complex. Instead he ended up shooting her in the head. She and her unborn baby, however, both survived. U. S. Marshals are offering a 10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Hes 55, 125 pounds, he is considered armed and dangerous. Pacific can police have made an arrest in an attempted kidnapping on the peninsula. Investigators say this man, 41yearold mark solomon drove up alongside a young girl and tried to force her into his car. It happened on monday afternoon near sequoia high school. That girl was able to run away. Solomon was arrested and is facing charges of annoying a child. 6 08 right now. The filth on San Francisco streets is growing along with the citys population. Officials say pedro anorve picked up a woman and her husband and took them up. The woman called him to say she left her phone in the car. When she went outside she says anorve kissed and groped her. A judge in San Francisco will hear arguments on an argument filed by the aclu challenging californias ban on ballot selfies. The suit argues freedom of speech pro direct those rights. Consumer investigator chris chmura joins us now with the story. Good morning. Albert gurgrito brought a sony cyber shot camera from best buy. He said he used it a handful of times before getting an error message. They told him he couldnt return it because he had just missed the 15day return period. Albert says best buy then told him to take the camera to a sony authorized repair center. He did that. But albert says the repair center wouldnt fix it, citing previous damage to the camera. Albert said he had no idea what the damage could be, so he decided to reach out to us. Hes caught in the middle. After we talked to best buy, best buy gave him 270 in store credit to replace that camera. In a statement the company said it found a manufacturing defect with the camera and it was pleased to resolve the matter. Police have just finished a News Conference after two officers were ambushed and killed. Earlier this hour this photo of the suspect was released. According to our nbc affiliate in des moines, valters tell them the shooter has been identified as 46yearold Scott Michael greene of urban dale. Lets break this down. The Des Moines Police Department Says the shootings happened about midnight central time when officers responded to a report of shots fired, they found an urban dale Police Department officer shot while sitting in his patrol car. Then 20 minutes later an officer from a Different Department, that one from des moines, was also found shot in his patrol car just a few blocks away. Both officers sadly were killed. Just minutes ago police asked the public to keep a watchful eye out for the suspect. All i can tell you is that the investigators have told us to release this information in an effort to locate him to try to get information we feel can be vital to what happened this morning. They think hes got information thats critical to us closing this case out. So far no arrests have been made. Also were just learning one of the local School Districts there is closed today. All new this morning, the smoke has cleared following an electrical explosion right near the montgomery b. A. R. T. Station. That explosion damaged one train and caused serious delays for people trying to get home overnight. Today in the bays bob redell is live in millbrae. The good news for commuters is everything is running just fine now. Reporter correct. So far, so good from what we can tell e speshlly at the millbrae b. A. R. T. Station. B. A. R. T. Telling us last nights small electrical explosion wont impact this mornings commute. There was a minor explosion on the third rail at the montgomery street station in sf which resulted in a small fire and damaged a b. A. R. T. Train as it passed over that location. No one on board the train was hurt. The Fire Department extinguished the small fire. B. A. R. T. Ended up shutting down the montgomery street station until the smoke cleared. It was kind of like smoke and he was like, okay, we should get out. He knew it was going to take a long time. Im like, oh, im just going to be late. B. A. R. T. Has taken that damaged train out of service. The Transit Agency has not indicated what caused that minor explosion on its third rail in the montgomery street station. That station has reopened. Thank you very much, bob. 6 35, pepper sprayed and robbed. A palo alto woman is recovering after being attacked by two men who ripped her earrings right off her. Today in the bays kris sanchez is live in the busy downtown area. Police say theyre getting descriptions of the suspect, but it could be very difficult. Reporter it could be difficult, laura. I want to show you where it happened. Were on university avenue. The apple store is right across the street. It was right behind this block of businesses here that there is an alleyway, a lane they call it, where that woman was approached by two young men wearing hoods. She was then peper sprayed there. Its also welllit there and not too far from the parking lot. To boo, it was only 7 00 in the evening on halloween night. One of the men sprayed her in the face with that pepper spray and as she was temporarily blinded another ripped her neck las from her neck and ripped her hoop earrings from her ears. The way this happened has other women feeling very unnerved and unsafe. Police say they may not know who the suspects are unless somebody else comes forward. I always park down random streets, right . Its a little frightening. Because of the pepper spray that was in her eyes, she was unable to give us a better description. Reporter now, slr surveillance cameras at the businesses here on university avenue, but because it is a less traveled area behind the buildings, the police say they dont have any Surveillance Video to work with just yet, but they say a reminder, always try to stay in welllit, well trafficked areas. In sunnyvale right now, police are searching for two suspects who used a stun gun to rob a liquor store. It happened just before 8 30 on halloween at a liquor store on the corner of south wolf road and old San Francisco road. The suspect entered the store, demanded money and used the stun gun to attack the store clerk. The men grabbed the money in the register and took off. Thankfully the clerk was not seriously hurt. Hillsborough police are investigating two home burglary attempts just about a mile apart. One on woodridge road, the other on lakeview drive. In both cases someone forced open the front doors of the home but got scared off by alarms. A man accused of killing a warehouse worker in the east bay is set to enter a plea. 27yearold Kadeem Edwards is being charged with murder. Police say he struck and killed a coworker last month as he tried to stop edwards from stealing wooden pallets. Officers found the suspect five hours after a crash in oakland. Also in court today, former San Francisco 49er bruce miller. Hes facing several felony charges after that bizarre attack at a San Francisco hotel. He was arrested in september after he allegedly attacked a 70yearold man and his 29yearold son at a hotel on fishermans wharf. Police say miller was very drunk at the time and confused the victims room with his own room. The elderly man suffered a black eye and possible facial bone structures t. 49ers released him shortly after he posted bail. Vta this morning will break ground on a new tunnel designed to improve access to a busy caltrans station. Crews will build a bike and pedestrian underpass connecting brokaw rode with the station. An 80foot tunnel will provide safe passage under three railroad tracks. A new lypath will link brokaw t that path. Its expected to be finished by next summer. The project to dismaptal the eastern span of the bay bridge enters its second phase today. Crews will be removing the smaller trusses, using a high controlic pushup jacking system. Police are calling it a hate crime. Here is what happened. According to the east bay times, the rainbow Community Center on willow pass road has been burglarized four times in the last two weeks. Burglars stole credit cards and charged up to 10,000 on each of them. Police say during the recent incident burglars painted homophobic graffiti all over the building. Investigators are looking closely at the roadway when 13 people were killed when a tour bus slammed into a truck in palm sprin springs. The stresh of the road was under construction but no the area was not marked. D Insurer Anthem blue cross right now is accused of misleading its customers, switching them to cheaper plans and then charging them more money. Consumer watch dog has filed a lawsuit against anthem. That suit claims anthem is switching several hundred thousand customers to strippeddown versions of their plans next year and some people are paying a lot more money. Anthem says state regulators approved those changes. The city of San Francisco is join a call, City Attorney tennis herrera announced the city is dropping opposition to a federal lawsuit charging the states bail system. Herrera calls the System Unconstitutional and says it treats poor and wealthy defendants differently. A Nonprofit Group has filed lawsuits against bail systems across the country. 6 46.
