I thought a plane crashed. It was a huge explosion. The impact dropped live electrical wires. Motorists were stranded for four hours. My car is okay. There are cars in the front that are straddling the lines and apparently there is a delivery truck that is kind of in one of the power lines. We were able to make the area safe and were able to remove the wires that were impacted. Reporter a new over crossing was under construction. Cal trans says an ex cavater belonging to the Japan FoundationEngineering Company caused the accident. That is still under investigation. We know it hit the tower somehow. We reached out to the Engineering Firm but have not received a response. An investigation is underway. Cornell barnard, abc 7 news. Four people were injured in a shootout in oakland on 880 near fifth avenue. People began shooting at each other. Three people were hit with gun shots. A fourth was injured by shattered glass. Tonight a man is in custody suspected of shooting and killing a texas deputy in an unprovoked attack. The shooter snuck up behind the deputy who was pumping gas and opened fire. Now will likely face the death penalty. Six to eight shots and an officer is down. Authorities say they have captured the man seen here suspected of gunning down a houston area sheriffs deputy execution style. We have identified the suspect responsible for the senseless and cowardly act. Today the District Attorneys Office has accepted capital murder charges on shannon miles. Authorities say he never had time to react, shot in the back overnight while simply filling up his patrol car with gas. The suspect continued over to him and shot the deputy again multiple times as he laid on the ground. Reporter the veteran officer and father of two died at the scene. Not an incident where the individual was provoked by confrontation with an officer. This was cold blooded execution. Reporter his murder raising questions whether anger over recent shootings by officers could have made his uniform a target. That does not mean open war fare declared on Law Enforcement. What happened last night is an assault on the very fabric of society. It is not anything we can tolerate. In louisiana three Police Officers shot and killed this month this year turning increasingly deadly for Law Enforcement officers. The number of Police Officers died on duty rising sharply this year, 73 officer fatalities in 2014. So far this year it is up to 82. We heard black lives matter, all lives matter. Cop lives matter, too. Why dont we just say lives matter. A growing memorial at the site. The steady stream of visitors feeling a sense of relief knowing there has been a quick arrest. Police have arrested two Northern California men for threatening another man with a gun and broadcasting the entire thing live on periscope. Police in sacramento say it is the first time they have seen social media users broadcasting what could have been a deadly encounter. The men claim they were after a man who was with one of their girlfriends. Viewers watched and liked it egging them on and asking them to prove the gun is real. I didnt think i would get in trouble with the law. It is almost unprecedented. The men they were looking for was not home. Police identified the men in the video and arrested them two days later after gunman vestor flannagon posted his video on facebook. The weather cooled off today across the bay area. A county beach closed for 72 hours after a great white shark attacked a surfer. The woman was surfing when the shark bit down on her board leaving a 14 inch bite mark. She escaped by pushing her board towards the shark and jumping off. She says she will take a break from surfing and stick to her boogie board. A san quinton inmate is in Good Condition tonight. Portable showers were brought in for the inmates and prison opened up indoor toilets again. Water use is limited to prevent the disease from spreading. Nearly 50 other prisoners could be infected. An organization that wants to keep the raiders in the east bay hosted a party at the teams headquarters today. Abc 7 news was at the prooakland party. They want black and silver to stay in town. The city investor unveiled his plans this week including a new stadium for the raiders. But fans want the team to give them an answer on their plans. We want the raiders to let us know and let the public know are you going to adopt the plan for a new stadium or unveil your own proposal for a new stadium. The organization plans to hand out stay in oakland signs to people sitting near the teams tunnel. Researchers have good news. It appears californias giant u susequoias appear to be surviving the drought. They installed censors that detected moisture and temperature and found the trees were stressed but holding on. Sequoias require up to 800 gallons of water a day each. They arent getting it obviously but the Scientists Say they are amazingly resilient and that is why they live for thousands of years. This is erika over cuba moving into the gulf of mexico but the deal with this is it could strengthen to a hurricane due to warm waters here and tampa could see anywhere from three to five inches of rain.
