Reporter investigators say the woman walking op the sidewalk never had a chance, struck by a speeding car, a driver who flew past a Police Cruiser seconds before, well above the speed limit. The officer tried to pull him over. He activated his lights. As the officer did that, the sole occupant of the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Reporter by the time the officer got to the top of the hill, he saw the camaro had burst through a fence striking a pedestrian, identified as a 65yearold pittsburgh woman who was walking on the sidewalk. She was killed instantly. The car kept going, onto the delta view golf course, stopped on a putting green and the driver got out and ran. He was captured a short time later in an adjacent neighborhood. A very tragic and traumatic event. This should not have happened. A year and a half later, attorney Kevin Morrison said the company has not. Instead of stepping up and taking responsibility for the incident, they claim the driver was an independent contractor. Reporter the lift driver did not have proof of insurance. In an emailed statement, a lift spokesperson offered condolences and said the investigation and litigation arising out of this accident are ongoing and liability has not been determined. However, in the meantime, lifts insurance policy is responding. The familys Attorney Says evidence shows the driver was going 75 miles an hour. Its unclear if they tested the driver. For the first time in four years, the city of cal a stoga is flushing its water pipes, releasing 1,000 gallons a minute onto the street. It used to be Standard Practice all over the bay area. Fire hydrants periodically opened up and left to run. Highvelocity water scours the pipes, clearing out sediment and chemicals so they dont end up in your Drinking Water. When the drought hit, many communities stopped regular pipe flushing to save water. But thats beginning to change. Were looking at full reservoir, which were very happy and pleased about. Its lapping over the top of our boards over on our stowaway. Thats about as much water as we can store here. Reporter this reservoir provides about 40 of cal i stogas water. They decided its time to clean the pipes. They left the water run until its clear. This one took nine minutes. Its actually clearing up a lot faster than we expected. Reporter the team also tests the hydrants to make sure theyre ready for an emergency. We have 170plus fire hydrants to do. It will take a few months. Reporter this process is also happening in other bay area communities. But not all reservoirs are full and the sierra snow pack is still below normal, so not every agency is doing the same thing. Here in San Francisco, officials tell us they are considering flushing some hydrants for routine maintenance. But for now, they say theyre still only doing it when absolutely necessary. In south bay, one of the first to use a truckbased flushing system that saves water. This Company Video shows how the truck connects to hydrants and flushes the pipes by Running Water through a filter, so very little water ends up on the street. San joses system cost half a Million Dollars and many districts dont have the money. So for now, expect most agencies to keep flushing their pipes the oldfashioned way.
