If the demolition work on the adjacent bridge nas a commanding visual presence. The economy has improved and there are more jobs in the city and more people are driving in. Theres been concern that moisture could get into the highstrength rods making them fragile enough to snap. You would have the threaded end and a nut at the top and bottom of this concrete beam. The grease caps go over the nuts and threaded ends and provide additional protection from corrosion. The problem caused 32 rods to snap during testing last year. Only 192 of the 2300 rods on the bridge are getting this treatment. Cal trans says its not sure the other rods actually need these grease caps. A welcome sight in the east bay today.
