Not only for the republicans who have gathered here, but for the protesters who have gathered to make their voices heard. And the security forces, getting ready to protect hundreds of thousands of people who will be outside the capitol and lining the streets. This was a ball we attended not far from this location, with a number of republicans from the bay area, who have never been to an inaugural ball before. They were awfully excited to be here. What would you say to women of color . Men of color . Men of different people of different ethnic backgrounds or sexual preferences who feel that Donald Trumps presidency threatens them. What would you say . Donald trumps presence doesnt threaten anyone. They may feel that way. But i think its because of, you know, the Mainstream Media or the large Cable Network media. I would encourage them to listen to donald trump. He has asked americans on several occasions to give him a chance. Give him a chance. He wants to be the president for all americans. Reporter the number of republicans here who traveled from the bay area to be here for this celebration. And inauguration tomorrow. Perhaps the biggest event of the night, the donors dinner. President elect trump reminisced about his electionnight victory. And told the crowd, he outworked anybody who ran for office. He praised his nominees for the cabinet positions. We have a cabinet, i believe, the likes of which has ever been appointed. Theres never been a cabinet like this. The other side is going absolutely crazy. Reporter that speech capped a busy day. Earlier, he had a somber moment with Vice President elect mike pence, as they placed a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. And he spoke to hundreds of people who gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for the inaugural concert. The twohour event included a big firework show. He told the crowd he was elected because people want real change. And he is confident he can unify the country. But not everyone is convinced of that, clearly, including a bay area blogger i spoke with, who explained why he came to be here. Im here as a protest, obviously. The Oakland Diocese has decided to close these five schools at end of the school year. We go live in the newsroom with why theyre closing. Lisa . Reporter the diocese wants to revamp its Elementary School system. They say staff was spread too thin. Enrollment numbers were low. And things werent working out too well. Thats why they want to roll out a new model. Parents night for a closed door meeting. Tonight, they learned their childrens beloved school is one of five schools set to close at the end of the school year. I was surprised. And im sad, too. I loved this school. The Diocese Spokesperson insists the consolidating the 12 Elementary Schools into 7, will allow for a new model. We believe it will be a success.
