Police are investigating the death of a woman found at Golden Gate Park over the weekend as a homicide. The woman has been identified as 23yearold audrey kerry of montreal, canada. Police say her body was found face down with bluntforce trauma to her head near jfk drive on saturday morning. Police think she attended the hardly strictly Bluegrass Festival friday night. Sonoma county Sheriffs Office facing a lawsuit accusing deputies of beating several inmates at the main jail in santa rosa. This is one of the violent incidents involving an inmate detailed in the federal complaint that states they grabbed a man, slammed his head to the floor striking several rapid and violent blows. As many as 20 prisoners were attacked back in may according to the lawsuit. The Sonoma County Sheriffs Office said, theres absolutely no basis to the allegations of torture, or other actions. And investigators plan to be back here in a few hours to resume their search for evidence in the area. What we do know is that a hiker found the body around 6 00 last night. The Sheriffs Office says the victims was on gunsite fire road on the north side of sir Francis Drake boulevard near the loma alta preserve. Officials responded and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators right now are treating this as a homicide until they can get more information. We do know an autopsy is pending. The Sheriffs Office is saying little. We dont even know the gender of the victim so again theres a lot of things that they will have to piece together as investigators come back here for round 2 of the investigation. This morning, more than 900 nurses in Contra Costa County are set to begin a twoday strike. It involves nurses at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in martinez and 11 clinics also run by the county. The issues include wages and staff levels. The union says the nurses have been working without a contract for several months. County plans to bring in temporary replacements for the nurses during the walkout. A superior court judge has struck down a new antieviction law in San Francisco. The ordinance required landlords to pay larger relocation payments to tenants whose homes were removed from the Residential Rental market under californias ellis act. The hiking trail where the victim was found has been shut down as you can see behind me as investigators wait for more light to assess the area. We do have some video from the scene last night.
