Pg e says the wet weather left about 140,000 customers without power over the weekend, most of those outages in San Francisco and the north bay. Over in the east bay, police cordoned off part of a neighborhood with yellow tape because of a downed tree. It happened at glendale in berkeley. You can see they chopped that tree into several pieces to haul it away. No reports of any damage. Its a tale of two regions following the storm. In the north bay, some places saw more than a foot of rain. Water is spilling into reservoirs like phoenix lake. It was being pumped for the first time in decades. Now its full and spilling over. Four days of rain put a decent dent in the drought for marin county. It was pretty amazing. We increased our storage, our capacity of stored water by almost 20 over the weekend. The Water District says in four days they quadrupled the seasons rainfall total. The south bay didnt get nearly as much rain as the north bay. The reservoirs are pretty much unchanged. You can see, the ponds are bone dry. Paul deanno has a look at which bay area cities got soaked over the weekend and which ones didnt. This is crazy. This is unparalleled in bay area weather history. Take a look at the haves first. I will start for you in the north bay. Well round it up and call it 14 inches of rainfall. Napa, more than 8. Santa rosa, nearly 8. Remember that 14 inches for guerneville. Now look at east palo alto. Less than 1 10 of one inch. It rained 140 times more in guerneville then it did in palo alto this weekend. Most of the south bay had less than a third of an inch of rainfall, including san jose, 1 5 of one inch. Downtown San Francisco had more than 2 inches of rainfall. More than an inch for sfo, ocean beach and woodside. In the east bay, marin took the cake with 4 inches. San ramon, piedmont, more than 2. We gotta talk about why. Well, we had that fire hose in the atmosphere, called the Pineapple Express. Typically that will waiver from place to place and we all get to share in the heavy rainfall. In this case, it set its sights on marin and Sonoma County and did not move for three days. In the south bay, you never got heavy rainfall. Basically the Pineapple Express picked its favorite spot and did not move for 60 straight hours. Well talk about where we are droughtwise, all coming up in about 10 minutes. Paul, well see you then. Also on the news tonight, investigators looking into a crash this mill valley that may be weatherrelated. Sunday search and rescue teams found the body of 68yearold thomas miles of mill valley. Police say that he was killed when his jeep plunged 60 feet down a steep hillside. Investigators believe he was alone when he steered off the roadway. Oakland police have arrested four teenagers for a daytime Home Invasion robbery last month. Police say they broke into an 81yearold womans home in the diamond neighborhood. The woman, who was home alone, was shot in the arm by one of the suspects. She survived. Police say the four teens who range in ages from 16 to 19 all have criminal records. In another case, last friday, an east oakland woman was killed during a Home Invasion. The search is on for leads. Ryan spoke to the victims family. Ryan, are police saying these two cases may be related . Reporter li, liz. Right now, the pd says the two cases are not related. The latest one was friday. We want to show you a picture right now. Family members say 77yearold suzanne fong was the victim. Here she is pictured with three of her grandkids. The crime happened near foothill boulevard. Police found fong bound, gagged and murdered. Her nephew was also tied up but not hurt. Detectives think someone targeted fong but they would not speculate why. Her soninlaw told me this afternoon not knowing who did this is the toughest part. Not knowing what happened, not knowing why it happened, and theres just no feeling of finality, of closure. Thats hard. Reporter the family also wants to know how long fong was dead. An Alaska Airlines flight had to make an Emergency Landing at San Jose International this morning. This photo was snapped just before the plane touched down. Pilot reported trouble with one of the navigation systems. Because the flight was bound for hawaii and would be out over open water for so long, the decision was made to return to san jose as a precaution. A guy with a felony warrant showed up at an East San Jose home sunday night and what followed was an 11hour standoff. Police say the man hid inside a home, refusing to come out until 5 00 this morning. Eight other homes in the neighborhood were cleared out during the ordeal. A Redwood City Police department is asking you to follow them on pinterest. The department created a page in hopes of reunited victims with their stolen property. Pins shows photographs of property recovered by police. Two victims have already identified jewelry that was stolen from them. Well, he picked the wrong shoe store to mess with. Reporter the problem up here is leaks and where the guardrails connect to the span, or possibly the wiring conduits to the bridge lights. Whatever the case, water is dripping down into the heart of the suspension span. The fear is that while the leaks are not an immediate problem, ongoing wetness could lead to corrosion of the spans bolts so they have to come up with a solution. How much is that going to cost . We havent figured that out yet. This is another of those things, that with if we experience more wind, more rain, were gonna learn things about this bridge. Reporter most of what the public has been learning about the bridge has been troubling. We have that 10 million being used to test other bolts on the span, not to mention the delays and overruns that have made the 6. 4 billion span the most expensive bridge in the world. And to you we hear that it leaks. They dont know exactly where its coming in, how quick its going to take to resolve. But i cant imagine you know, the water is not going to be left there, even if it takes more than one winter season to button this up, the water is still going to get pumped out before it can do any damage. Reporter and the real problem is, if it stays, it could corrode. But it just goes to show that this new bridge is going to take a lot of shakedown before it gets it right. He just yelled, what are you doing here . Reporter just before 7 a. M. , jose juarez woke up to the sound of breaking glass. Within minutes, police got the call there was a burglar in process, with a twist. Juarez was holding down the suspect. He encountered the suspect, who immediately began punching him in the face. The store owner fought back. During the struggle, they fell to the ground. Reporter juarez, his wife, a 16yearold son and two younger children were living in the upstairs apartment to try to prevent this very thing from happening, after an attempted theft earlier in the week. But police say this was more than a theft and the teenager was afraid for his fathers safety. He picked up a chair and hit the suspect over the head, incapacitating him. Reporter police say manuel jose pontiff was taken to the hospital for his injuries and booked. Because the juarez family was here at the time and the building was occupied, the suspect will face a more serious charge of firstdegree burglar. Juarez wont face charges. Its an individual choice and there are risks associated with those choices. Fortunately, in this situation, he was not harmed seriously. And police say the suspect is wellknown to them and hes expected to be in court tomorrow. A reprieve today for californias prison system. The state is getting two more years to fix its overcrowding problem. Originally, california had until next month to reduce its prison population. The new deadline is february of 2016. The state is about 5,000 inmates over the limit set by the courts. A minnesota teenager is in big trouble for taking a school bus on a joyride. Surveillance video shows the boy crashing it into a gas station. The teen jumped behind the wheel while the driver was getting a morning coffee. No one was on board. The 14yearold could face felony auto theft charges. Zookeepers in denmark are getting Death Threats after killing one of their giraffes and feeding it to the lions. The twoyearold giraffe was shot with a bolt pistol, skinned and then fed to lions, all while visitors watched. The staff has now received several threats, from phone calls to emails. One said, children of zoo staffers should be shot or get cancer. The zoo said it killed the giraffe to prevent inbreeding, and the public feeding was a display of scientific knowledge. People depend on the sierra. They depend on the snow melt for their water. So, you know, this is exactly what we need. That snow melt amounted to a lot more water in lake tahoe. Estimates are that the lake took in more than 13 billion gallons of water in a 24hour period during the storm. I tell you what. You get out in colorado, rockies, a little dryer. But this stuff was so goopy and gooey and i was up in the mountains this weekend it could not have been more water in it. Yeah. Youve got a lower water ratio. This is the kind of stuff that will stick up there. And when it melts, this is going to yield a lot of rainfall. This was a wonderful storm, if you did not get flooded. Its so popular, it generates an estimated 50,000 a day in ad revenue. But success wasnt sweet for the creator, seen here, who was recently accused of copying material from another game. He denies that. And he tweeted that flappy birds ruined his simple life and he now hates it. The whole story is surreal. It is, by a lot of peoples estimation, a very poor game. Its impossible to play well. Its not very rewarding. And yet it has become this kind of addictive thrill. Reporter he says people who have already downloaded the game can still play it.
