Reporter veronica, the Sheriffs Department says they got a lot of clues a lot of help from the public, photos, video, and now they have three suspects behind bars. All three suspects were arrested without incident outside a Community Dining hall in the city of portland, oregon. Reporter marin county sheriff Officials Say it was pictures like these that helped catch the murder suspects. This surveillance photo shot outside a point reyes gas station shows two men and a woman filling a car up with gas. Whats crucial to point out is that the vehicle that you see in that photograph is our victims vehicle. So this puts them in possession of the victims vehicle. Reporter the three are now behind bars arrested at 2 15 this afternoon. Detectives used a gps device in the car to track them down. Portland authorities became aware of their presence because beneathified them. We had information of the because we notified them. We had information of the vehicle and they went to the vehicle and located the vehicle and the suspects. Reporter lieutenant doug pittman says this photo of one of the suspects comes from a woman with a dash camera. She remembered seeing the man acting strangely outside a fairfax elementary school. A 7eleven surveillance camera captured other images of the other two. Sheriffs ofals sathe trio murdered steve carter on the trail in west fairfax monday evening, shot him, shot his dog and stole his car. Steves widow is battling cancer. Thats her there in the white hat paying her respects to her husband this morning with a small spontaneous memorial along the trail where he was shot. Police havent yet publicly identified the three suspects. Er in portland and they will have to go through an ex they are in portland and they will have to go through an extradition process before they are brought back here. Why havent they released the identities yet. Reporter they say they havent yet formally identified them. They are arrested and behind bars and now they are working through the process of identifying them. At some point we hope they will reat least to the public. I should also mention that we hope they will release it to the public. Javon lopez is wanted for the murder of an ice cream vendor. 23, 57, 160 pounds. The victim 45yearold jarvis singh was shot to death saturday afternoon on peach street. The motive is unclear. The city manager of milpitas hired a new secretary a few years ago. A job that pays quite well. Now there are accusations that he passed up Better Qualified candidates because they were too old. Kpix 5s devin fehely tells us about the federal lawsuit. Devin. Reporter yeah. The federal investigators say that the three women who they filed this lawsuit on behalf of had two things in common. They were all Better Qualified than the woman who ultimately got the job and significantly older. The lawsuit alleges there is reasonable cause to believe that the city passed over older Better Qualified candidates because of their ages. Our contention is that she was not as qualified as the three older women who were well into the protected age group. Reporter the lawsuit stems from the 2012 hiring of an executive secretary for milpitas city manager john williams. Federal investigators say an independent threeperson panel interviewed and evaluated potential candidates for the 95,000 a year job. But without explanation, williams hired a 39yearold woman passing over 55, 57 and 58yearold candidates who performed better in the interview process. He is going to undoubtedly contend she was Better Qualified. We believe thats a pretext for discrimination and an age bias with a real reason for not selecting our three people on whose of what were suing. Reporter the eeoc tried to negotiate a settlement with the city but failed. The case heads to federal court now. We did reach out to the attorney representing the city of milpitas. He says he has received the lawsuit and is reviewing it and has no further comment at this time. In milpitas, devin fehely, kpix 5. A sour note for a soul singer. He was robbed during a video shoot in oakland. [ music ] thats a previous video. He and his crew were held up monday by four people as they were packing up their equipment. Two of the suspects were caught after a highspeed chase. Two others still havent been found. Nobody was hurt during the robbery but some of the stolen equipment has already been recovered. Across the bay somebody stole massive bronze sculptures from an art display in San Francisco. This is a replica of one of those sculptures. Three of them disappeared from harry bridges plaza in front of the ferry building. They had been on display since the middle of july. Organizers noticed that they disappeared sometime last month. The sculptures are the work of a mexican artist. The San Francisco Police Department is warning they could wind up at a pawn shop or a Metal Recycling center. The other options, they were swiped for someones personal collection. We have learned that some parents at Mount Diablo Elementary School have stopped sending their kids to class because they say the school has become just too dangerous. Reporter harassing and beating up other students, in fact a lot of kids are afraid to come to school and thats why parents are now demanding the district to do something before the bullying gets any worse. He punched someone in the stomach. And then he ran into the bathroom and locked the door. And then he took the trash can and kicked it outside the bathroom door. Reporter students and parents say one kid is terrorizing the entire Mount Diablo Elementary School. Running all over and biting and kicking at the children. Reporter shantel says the boy in third grade threw rocks and other things at students and teachers. It makes me really scared because sometimes he runs around the whole school and he sees you looking at him, he will scream in your face. Reporter parents say the violent behavior has forced the principal to lock down all classrooms on campus a few times. The most recent being monday. He told us to get inside and lock the doors. Reporter how does that make you feel . Scared. Reporter this parent pulled her daughter lily out of school the last two days. About 30 other parents have done the same. Just want the board to listen, the district to listen, and to just make a safe Healthy Learning environment again for everybody. Reporter many parents complain the district has done little to fix the problem. They say the school hasnt even sent out a letter about the bullying that has been going out for at least a month. A lot of kids are nervous about being in the class ram and dont want to go classroom and dont want to go to school. Thats not okay. Reporter the parents and students dont want the school to expel this kid. They want the school to offer this kid a lot more help. Parents plan to attend the Monthly School Board Meeting monday night and demand answers from the district. There are more problems with bedbugs at bay area libraries. This time, menlo park closed its doors after the pests were discovered in the building. Visitors were turned away this morning after bedbugs were found on a chair. This is the third week in a row they have surfaced in a Public Library on the peninsula. Im wondering why i thought it was an isolated incident but every day it seems that theres another library that has them. It has to be paper by mail thing not a call. They call because obviously only the authorized accountholder can cancel by phone although comcast says thats their preferred method of cancellation of course because they will try to convince you to stay, my words not comcast. Yesterday a hurricane that had formed southeast of hawaii and is now well north of the islands. You look at california, look at that moisture stream thats beginning to filter over the pack pacific. Seattle is getting light rain out of it over the pacific northwest. Its part of hurricane oho north and east of the Hawaiian Island chain. Its still a category 2 hurricane. Its well offshore from california and it is well offshore from hawaii. Its 850 miles northeast of hilo on the big island so its not going to hit the big island except for some surf. But even by thursday at 8 00 when it gets downgraded to a Tropical Storm its still going to be basically at the same latitude as San Francisco which is its its almost practically unheard of at this time of the year that a Tropical Storm remains together that long. Now, again, even at this point we are not going to see anything from it. But the moisture stream is carrying all these clouds up into the pacific northwest. Certainly could affect them and far Northern California and its just flatout weird. And you can see that all that moisture the high is blocking that tropical moisture from coming our way so far. The wind hanging over the desert southwest. Well have fair skies and warm temperatures and to sum it up numbers approach 90 by the weekend but no rain on the horizon not into early next week. Overnight lows tonight will be looking at readings mostly in the mid to upper 50s. Sun rising tomorrow morning at 7 11 a. M. Tomorrow 68 degrees. Concord 82. San jose 79. Oakland 74 degrees. All those numbers within 2 degrees of where we usually are at this time of the year. So as i say fairly ordinary weather for october in the bay area. Its still continuing fairly warm a few high clouds inland but numbers near 90 degrees and as we get into next week it hangs in there.
