Im not saying heavy rain because it wont be here by 9 a. M. But watch what happens at 5 and 6 00 tomorrow evening. Thats when the wind will be at its strongest when the rain will be at its heaviest. Now, we spoke to one woman who works at a restaurant here and she says without the bad weather, she sees at least one accident a week. Theres landslides, mud slides or someone will turn a corner too fast and the fog is so thick you cant see in front of you. So caltrans says they are expecting this rain. They are prepared for it. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for areas devastated by septembers fire in lake county. Forecasters say at times rain could exceed a half inch an hour. Then its particularly concerning because soil scorched by the fire absorbs very little rain leading to more runoff and problems caused by flooding. Storms, tides, it all means the end of the line for an Apartment Building on a crumbling cliffside in pacifica. Neighbors put on notice that the building at 320 esplanade will be torn down next week. Its one of several thats been in jeff did i of falling into the ocean. Workers tore down one building last month that was redtagged. Next weeks work will take a couple of days. Reporter this is a war of words between the sheriff and former judge Ladoris Cordell in legal and Law Enforcement circles. They are two titans, one the head of the jail system and the sheriffs department, the other a former Police Auditor and the current head of the commission whose job it is to reform that jail system. Now, it was a brawl inside of the jail this week. A fight between several inmates that has somehow ignited a war of words between sheriff laurie smith and retired judge Ladoris Cordell. Sheriff smith took exception to judge cordells statements to the media that it seems strange that the two rival groups responsible for this fight were allowed to mix inside the jail. Sheriff smith took that to mean that the judge believed that that fight was somehow staged or a political stunt. Sheriff smith wrote a scathing email expressing her outrage that judge cordell would accuse her or her deputies of a crime. Im an elected official and i understand that people are going to take shots at me. But to accuse our deputies of actually committing a crime staging a fight, thats what i have been getting from the media, that was what was portrayed to the media, and thats why the letter was sent. Reporter judge cordell wrote her own email in response saying in part it is amazing to me that you have completely misinterpreted my twosentence statement in that interview. I am amazed at your level of defensiveness. Now, she also went on to say that she never accused the sheriff or anyone of engaging in criminal conduct of the sheriff also filed a Public Information request for all emails and letters from judge cordell and members of that commission. She says she believes judge cordell has an agenda. The judge says her agenda is reforming the jail system and believes that the sheriffs letter and her accusations are nothing more than a distraction. In san jose, devin fehely, kpix 5. As a matter of fill disclosure, judge cordell appears on our air from time to time as a legal analyst. Another santa clara city leaders calling it quits. City manager Julio Fuentes announcing his resignation after three years but will stay on until the end of may. His resignation comes amid a grand jury investigation into leave finances and his own claims he has been discriminated against because he is latino. This follows Jamie Matthews abrupt resignation as mayor last month. I think the wheels are coming off the train right now. I wonder whats next. We have a city that was open and friendly that isnt. Im very pleased that this department is working on all cylinders as we have been able to replenish the resources and add more Police Officers on the street. Reporter so whats changed . The police chief says he has moved away from the 100block crimefighting plan. We are just more focused in how we do things and so its not hot spot policing. Its more hot people policing. Bart is trying to figure out why trains are losing power while traveling in the transbay tube. The Transit Agency says 80 bart cars experienced power problems this week. Workers suspect issue might be linked to a substation at the west oakland bart stop. Bart says it is not uncommon for a few cars to lose power every day. But it became a major issue when it started happening to dozens of trains traveling eastbound. We dont know what caused it. Just taking that substation offline has solved the problem temporarily. Bart hopes to have 60 of those 80 trains that experienced power losses back in service by monday. The force of a deadly crash in san jose sent vehicles spinning all across the roadway. Take a look at the aftermath. Shattered glass, plastic, metal everywhere. Police say just before 3 a. M. , a pickup truck tboned an suv at camden and leigh avenues. Not clear who had the right of way. Rescue workers dove in to save the woman. Crews had to use a winch to pull the car out. Police believe she was intoxicated when she crashed. Representatives jackie conspire and Jared Huffman announced legislation today dubbed the crab emergency Disaster Assistance act. It would provide 138 million in Disaster Relief to the crab industry. Commercial crab season was suspended after crabs started testing positive for a toxin caused by algae bloom. The city is investigating whether construction jackhammering a nearby sewer line caused the tree to fall. Both cars and the bus were damaged badly but no injuries. A manteca woman is working to fix her lawn after thieves tried to steal her artificial turf. Police say it happened tuesday night. People living in the Santa Cruz Mountains are bracing for heavy rain this weekend. They could see between four and seven inches of rain through monday. More on the timing of the storm from paul deanno coming up in 15 minutes. Two legal heavyweights in the south bay are trading angry letters over a jail fight captured on new security cameras. Sheriff laurie smith thought former judge Ladoris Cordell suggested the fight was allowed to happen. Cordell, who is helping to investigate the jail, says the sheriff misunderstood what she said during a recent interview. Los Angeles Police are examining a knife found on a brentwood property once owned by o. J. Simpson. The big question now, could it be the knife used to kill Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, ron goldman . The knife used in the killings was never found. Reporter dave lopez on the possible evidence and who had it all this time. My standing that is a knife that so its not a machete. Reporter is it the murder weapon that was used to kill Nicole Brown Simpson and ron goldman . That murder weapon that was never produced at the trial of o. J. Simpson . The trial where he was found not guilty. It is being treated as we would all evidence. So it has been submitted to our lab. Reporter o. J. Simpsons estate was sold in 1998 and the new owners demolished it. According to the story told to the lapd, an offduty now retired lapd Motorcycle Police officer was working a movie set as a Security Guard not far from o. J. Simpsons house when it was being knocked down. One of the construction workers as the story goes found a knife buried on the property and gave it to that officer. And what did the officer do with it . He kept it for nearly 18 years before he turned it over to the lapd two months ago. Anytime you come into contact with evidence that you should and shall submit that to investigators. I dont know what the circumstances are, why that didnt happen. Reporter the lapd did confirm that the retired officer did tell them he thought the oj case was closed. Its not. They will not confirm or even discuss a story going around that the officer who was given the knife told a buddy who is on the force that he was thinking of framing the knife and what he thought about it. Thats when his friend told him, you better call homicide so he did. Or if this whole story is bogus. Reporter the test on the knife will continue. The lapd is not giving a timetable when the test will be conclusive if at all. From los angeles, dave lopez, kpix 5. A sacramento defense attorney was a dna expert on the o. J. Simpson team. Bob revere says it is important that the knife be tested but he is skeptical that it could be the murder weapon. And he says finding any dna on that knife is going to be difficult. If there was any dna on it, it might be degraded to the point where its you cant find any. I would be hopeful that maybe theres somebody elses dna on it and that that could be detected and that it was planted by somebody at the time of the offense. He also says the more the construction workers and the Police Officers handled that knife, the less likely dna testing would produce anything of value. Today a livermore nanny accuse of harming a baby boy in her care pled not guilty in a pleasanton courtroom. 20yearold Moriah Gonzales is facing felony child abuse charges. Court records show that she was captured on a nanny cam using her hands to muffle the babys cries until he went limp. Gonzales Attorney Says the boy was never examined by a doctor before her arrest. The child was not in any way mishandled or mistreated. How did things turn so ugly, then . I think that story will be one of the real substories of this case. I think youll find that theres a certain bond between the parents and the Livermore Police department. For now, gonzales is out on a 100,000 bail bond.
