Were here in the spot where yesterday it turned deadly when a car plowed into a group of people on that corner. Its become a place of remembrance. Hundreds of people turned out singing songs, sharing memories, and still folks are coming by leaving flowers and candles. But the tension you mentioned between the white nationalists who wanted to rally here and the hundreds who said they werent welcome, that tension was on display today. Demonstrators shouted down Justin Kessler as they argued his group wasnt responsible for its deadly turn. The hate you hear around you, that is the antiwhite hate that fueled what happened yesterday. Fired white house suppose person, anthony any skaramucci, he shared his view. Would you have given that statement . I wouldnt have recommended that statement. I think he would have needed to be much harsher. But heres the thing. Whether i was the Communications Director or not, the president is going to do what he wants to do, how he wants to do it. Skaramucci will likely have a lot more to say tomorrow night when he sits down with Stephen Colbert on the late show. You can catch his interview right after kpix5 at 11. A topic on the talk shows, north korea, of course. Whether it is inevitable the rogue nation will become a power. Will anything stop them from getting nuclear weapons. I love a denuclearized north korea, but as i learned when i went there and had intense dialogue with them, that is a nonstarter with them. Thats their ticket to survival and i dont see any way theyre going to give it up. So i think our process, our thought process here ought to be on accepting it and trying to cap it or control it. But retired admiral mike mullen, former chairman of the joint chiefs of staffs says that he cant accept that. I just cant bring myself to the point where we say, well, its okay if this leader has these devastating weapons. I think theres a very real possibility this is just wag the dog by President Trump to get us off the attention of that investigation. Bay area congressman says the newest round of sanctions were a success, but then the president insisted on ratcheting up the rhetoric. A lot of people that did support him understand that that was a mistake, so his numbers are going down and he becomes more desperate, which is what hes doing in north korea. President trump is no stranger to wag the dog politics. At least five times during president obamas administration, trump predicted obama would start a war to help his poll numbers and win reelection. For example, on october 17, 2012, he wrote polls are starting to look really bad for obama. Looks like hell have to start a war or major conflict to win. Dont put it past him. If this is part of President Trumps strat zi ji, it appears to be working. He threatened north korea with fire and fury on august 9 and it has dominated the headlines ever since.
