Kpix 5s maria medina joins us live from city hall where the tenants took their complaints. One little boy is forced to sleep on the floor because there are so many bedbugs inside his apartment. And residents want city leaders to really step in and do something because the landlord they say isnt. And they say they have the photos to prove the problems at the sunny apartments on story road. They brought the photos to city hall yesterday because they say Code Enforcement has turned a blind eye. Unfortunately, the office was closed but they say their fight is not over because no one should be living in those conditions. They have 109 violations and we have been working for this for a whole year and nothing has been completed. So were very dissatisfied with the work from Code Enforcement. Reporter they say enough is enough. So they have actually joined together to file a lawsuit but you know, this apartment complex has been a problem for years. In fact, tenants have been complaining about issues there for more than 20 years. Firefighters say it was last year that an electrical issue was likely what sparked a fire that forced two children to jump from their windows. So today Code Enforcement workers plan to meet with the tenants. We heard from them late last night. We dont know exactly what time they will be meeting with those attends. A bad day for a medical company in marin reportedly got hacked and had to pay ransom to get access to their own system. The marin ij says it happened to the medical practices concept company. They provide medical building and Record Services to physicians. Though said theres no evidence that any patient data was compromised. Pierce was picking up her kids from school and she died trying to shield them from harm. New allegations of horrific problems at californias two major prisons for women. Among the reported behavior at the facility in chowchilla, guards sexually abusing prisoners and allowing fights between inmates and a state senator wants an investigation into why the suicide rate at the prison in chino was 8 times higher than the National Average over 18 months. New orleans is cleaning up this morning after a massive storm ripped through the city. Several people captured video of a funnel cloud yesterday afternoon. The National Weather Service Confirms a tornado touched down and carried about 80mileper hour winds. At least 4 buildings collapsed and several cars were damaged. The winds knocked down trees and power lines. No one was seriously injured. Friends of an 81yearold doctor from marin found dead near a bay area trail say that he died doing what he loved. Julian was a doctor at the university of california San Francisco. He had been out for a hike with his dog on mount tam near phoenix lake wednesday afternoon. He fell down a ravine. Authorities say that less than 2 hours later another hiker found his body by the Hidden Meadow trail after he spotted the dog on unattended. Other people familiar with the trail say that some parks can be narrow some paths can be narrow, two feet wide. If you stumble in the wrong place, it sounds like a terrible accident. I feel terrible for the family. The doctor loved the Great Outdoors and enjoyed hiking and birdwatching. One of the two babies born in california with zikarelated birth defects is reportedly delivered right here in the bay area. A source tells kcbs radio the baby was born at Alta Bates Medical Center within the last six months. The mother had apparently traveled to gatt guatemala. Protect women have been advised to avoid areas where its prevalent and use repellents. Zika can be transmitted through sex so one doctor recommends condoms. Use barrier methods for six months. If the partner is pregnant, actually use barrier methods throughout the pregnancy. Some physicians suggest zika only carries miles symptoms for people who arent mild symptoms for people who arent pregnant and only one in five people face it. The olympic torch is in rio de janiero brazil where the 2016 summer games Opening Ceremony will take place this evening. The torch will visit the landmark statue of the christ the redeemer this morning. As for the ceremony tonight, 4800 performers and volunteers will be involved in the extravaganza. Outside lands kicks off today in San Francisco and that means tourists and cars and definitely some fed up locals. But it also brings some famous performers and lots of them this weekend. Reporter some big name acts. Lana del rey, lionel ritchie, duran duran. You can see they are prepared here for the crush of crowds. Fences up all over Golden Gate Park this morning. They are getting ready for the front gates to open for outside lands at 11 a. M. Outside lands has been going for eight years here in San Francisco and selling out for the past six years. This year tickets sold out in about 45 minutes. About 70,000 people are expected to attend outside lands each day between now and sunday. That does take its toll on the surrounding neighborhoods. People coming by wanting to use their bathrooms and with the shortage of water with the drought, its a no go. Reporter crews have been setting up for the festival all week long here at the polo grounds in Golden Gate Park. The festival features food, wine, craft beer and big name musical acts that we mentioned. Originally the tickets were 375 for three days. But right now they are up to about 200 or more for each day. Oh, yeah, when it comes to ridesharing theres nowhere to park around here so people are advised to use ridesharing or obviously public transport. Its also going to be a big weekend for airbnb. About half of the concerts attendees are coming from out of town. So some of the people around here say that, um, airbnb prices are about, um, 4 times what would you get on a norm 4 times what you would get on a normal weekend around here. So it certainly is a chance to make money. A lot of locals just opt to get out town because it is a crush of people and a bit of a mess. Back to you. Thank you. In yolo county, hundreds of firefighters are working to put out the cold fire. They have it 15 contained right now. The wildfire started south of Lake Berryessa and has spread to 4700 acres. More than 900 firefighters are working to douse the flames. The nearby Canyon Creek Campground remains closed to keep visitors safe. And cal fire tweeted this video to show its challenging fight with the soberanes fire in monterey county. That wildfire burned more than 51,000 acres but containment improved yesterday to reach 30 . A toxic algae alert could throw a wrench in your plans this weekend at the russian river. Tests revealed a harmful toxin in the water near four public beaches. Officials started putting up warning signs in the affected areas. You can still swim in the river for now but beachgoers are urged to take precautions and keep your pets out of the water. Just a few hours crews will break ground on a flood project called along the San Francisco [ indiscernible ] creek. The 41 million project will ultimately remove sediment that causes the creek to overflow. The goal is to prevent a repeat of the flood in 1998 that damaged thousands of homes and shut down highway 101. Construction will take about two years. San fransesquito. Thats a tough one. Yeah. Looks like youre backed up to the maze at this point with a little slow speeds off the eastshore freeway. New information about the driver involved in a deadly bus crash in merced county. According to dmv records, Mario Vasquez had his commercial license suspended last year. During that time, he drove the bus anyway. He was cited. This happened in oregon but the california dmv never took any more action. The dmv says the branch in oregon didnt process the information correctly so the full report never got sent over. If it had been processed, vasquez likely would have had his license suspended for four more months. His bus veered off the highway on tuesday and slammed into a pole killing four people. A retired firefighter from the bay area is among those recovering after a stabbing spree in london. The person from san jose is on vacation with his wife when he and five others were attacked. Another american Darlene Horton of florida was killed wednesday night. The guardian reports that she tried to warn others about the attacker as she lay dying in the street. A 19yearold man is under arrest. Investigators say he has Mental Illness and chose his victims at random. Some people on san joses east side say they live in a filthy crimeridden Apartment Building and say their landlord and city leaders are not doing enough. Also in san jose, hundreds of Court Workers are showing up at the hall of justice but they are not stepping inside. Its day 3 of the union strike. Workers say they are understaffed and under paid and that its been a decade since they got a raise. Managers and even judges are stuck doing much of the paperwork themselves. But theres growing concern that the court system cant function for much longer with the most of the staff off the job. A worry is that search warrants havent been processed. Two former Pittsburg Police officers are accusing the department of forcing them to falsify crime reports. According to a new lawsuit, officers were instructed to down play the seriousness of crimes to keep the citys crime rate down. The officers say when they complained they were threatened with criminal charges if they didnt resign. A third officer came forward with similar allegations in may. A security online specialist says its going to make some job cuts as part of a restructuring plan. They will lay off up to 400 workers about 10 of its roster of fireeye did miss earnings expectations in the recent quarter. Even though its revenue was up by 18 . Its a tough sector. There were more companies out there involved in online security. Fireeye investigated a couple of highprofile hack attacks including at target and the one over at sony. Good news on the economy. The Labor Department reports that the economy added 255,000 jobs in july. That was much more than expected. And with upward revision of the prior two months a half million added jobs in the past 2 months alone gained in all industries except for the Energy Sector dealing with low oil prices for the years. Also, the Unemployment Rate stayed steady at 4. 9 . Even though there are more people looking for work, its a very good sign for the economy, as well. This report does increase the chances of another fed rate hike later this year. Investors certainly liking the news this morning as the stock market gains ground. Mayor Anthony Silva was arrested at camp silverlake yesterday. Its a city run camp for disadvantaged kids and the place where crimes allegedly occurred. An affidavit from San Joaquin County alleges that last august, silva used his cell phone to record a strip poker game at the camp that included underaged teens. A transcript from the affidavit of that incident suggests those playing strip poker did not want to be recorded. Kpix 5 legal analyst jeff harp says cases like this are slowly investigated but because of silvas position, things may have been sped up. This is a person of trust and confidence and a public official, so the bar is probably set a little lower. Silva was released from custody after posting a 20,000 bond.
