A san jose steak researcher is Getting National attention. He was featured on an episode of shark week after discovering eight new species of sharks. Reporter [ nonenglish language ] talked to him about his deep sea find. Reporter they call him. Shark whisperer, i find a new species of chimera. Shark ninja. Reporter he is from sacramento but might as well be from the deep sea where he is making new discoveries. I always think about going to sea like going to prison with a chance of drowning. Reporter in 2012, paul spent two months on a commercial fishing vessel in the southern part of the indian ocean an environment where researchers do not spend a lot of time. 1,000 miles from land as the crew got rid of Sea Creatures they couldnt sell or eat, he would go through them. I would just collect them and work them up take data. Reporter thats when he discovered eight new shark species neverbeforeseen. We dont know how big they get, how old they get, what they eat. Reporter his discovery got the ears of the Marine Biology world and two years later Discovery Channel was interested in him. He went back with a photographer for shark week. He spent another 60 days out at sea this year. A dream come true. I watched shark week when i was a kid. How cool with these guys who get to go study sharks. Reporter now he is one of those guys. He was featured on the episode alien shark this week. A lot of them are strange, the go sharks, false cat sharks, all the weird stuff. Reporter he will now get to name the newly discovered creatures of the sea. That was [ nonenglish language ] report. The names will likely be based on where the sharks were found or their physical characteristics. But he is also hoping to name a couple after his mom and his research adviser. Why not . Why not.
