Target has agreed to pay nearly 4 million to settle claims that its been overcharging customers. Kpix 5 consumerwatch reporter julie watts on some new rules that target is going to have to follow. Reporter yeah. You know, this one is not necessarily surprising. It comes out of the marin county d. A. s office, known for prosecuting large retailers. It alleges target violated false advertising and unfair competition laws. At issue the d. A. Alleges target was charging more at the register than the posted price on the shelf primarily day to expired shelf tags that hadnt been changed out. The retailer must designate one person to inspect all price tags in the store after they are swapped out. They found some products way less than indicated on the packaging. Third Party Auditors will have to inspect their products. Target will not be required to give customers the overcharged items for free. However, the d. A. s office explains that target already has a policy that gives the cashier the discretion to adjust a price on the spot if a customers believes they were charged the wrong price. Under the judgment whenever they do a price override from here on out, the store will have two hours to fix the price problem at the shelf or at the register. This is the second injunction for target thank you. They tried before and then they backed down. It looks like Contra Costa County supervisors are trying again to give themselves a pay raise. This time, they are talking about a 7 raise. That is much smaller than the 33 raise they originally agree on last year. That caused backlash from county workers and labor groups and was withdrawn. The new pay increase brings salaries to about 104,000 a year. The 17yearold accused of kidnapping and raping a pizza delivery woman will be tried as an ayou will did. Darian miles will be arraign tomorrow and tried as an adult. He attacked the woman as she arrived to deliver pizza in antioch, allegedly. County supervisors approved funding for the mcguire correctional facility. The upgrades include new security electronics, replacement detention doors and a new video visitation system. Reporter today his children settled with Alameda County and the jails Healthcare Provider for 8. 3 million. They claim its the largest wrongful death civil rights settlement in california history. He made one mistake. Reporter when harrison was brought in he was not evaluated by a registered nurse buy a lesser trained cheaper counterpart. They cant get away with it anymore. Reporter he started hallucinating from alcohol withdrawal. The sheriff said the inmate attacked deputies and tried to take a taser and deputies did the best they could. But after being beaten and tased, harrison died of a heart attack. This settlement requires deputies now get alcohol withdrawal training every two years. People in palo alto are sounding off about blaring train horns and the city council is listening. They are looking into quiet zones. Kpix 5s devin fehely reports. Reporter some neighbors are making noise in palo alto about the need for more quiet in the city. Their complaint is with trains that rumble up and down the tracks all day and all night. The city of palo alto is currently considering a plan that would allow the trains to operate more quietly inside the city limits. The city would need to install some additional Safety Measures in order to make that a reality. That would allow the trains to pass through street level crossings without sounding their horns. Safety gates could cost a million dollars. Some neighbors complain about the nighttime noise because it disrupts sleep. I ran out to see it every time it went through. One bay area city is raking in a ton of money thanks to just one red light camera. In fact its catching 15 times more drivers than it used to. Allen martin has the story you will see only on 5. Its located next to this bart parking lot and then just down the road theres a rental car return for sfo. Thats a real hot spot. Reporter jim monitors red light camera programs and says, last summer, the number of tickets issued at the intersection skyrocketed. From approximately 40 tickets a month to 600. Reporter among the drivers nailed, gina para. I didnt even see them. Reporter weeks later the ticket came in the mail. I immediately saw first was a picture of me with my sunglasses on taken through the windshield. Reporter caught in the act of not stopping before turning right. Illegal under state traffic laws. So the red Light Company installed a new and improved camera. We noticed an increase in violations we started working with atf scrutinizing more and more of this data. Reporter so after skyrocketing from 7 tickets in april to more than 600 in may with the new camera, numbers dropped for a few months. Then in october, they shot up to close to 500 a month. Youre going to see a vehicle come through with very little effort to slow down. Reporter although that infraction may sound minor Sergeant Decker says rolling rights are potentially dangerous. As a driver your attention is over here h your first threat, your first danger is going to come from this direction but our attention is away from these two pedestrians.
