Reporter relatives of those aboard flight 93 gathered at the crash site in shanksville, pennsylvania. Some families choose to remember in a more intimate way. Several gathered at a firehouse that lost 15 members on that day. The worst word i heard, closure. There is no such thing. Reporter he lost his firefighter son lenny and took part in engine 54s ceremony as well as maureen and al santora whose son christopher joined the Fire Department a couple of months before the attack. We are so grateful to see each other because we have been through tears and, you know, sorrow and now its a reunion. Reporter they promise like the rest of america to never forget. Kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is live in San Francisco where firefighters have been remembering the loss of so many of their own. Reporter 343 First Responders died on 9 11. You can see the flags here at halfmast at fire station 35 everybody remembering the day. The sound of silence marked local remembrance ceremonies today. Its an important time to reflect and to appreciate all the sacrifices that were made that day, the lives that were lost, how many lives were changed. Reporter San Francisco fire chief joanne hayeswhite was in charge of training recruits at station 7 on 9 11 2001. This yearss recruits attended todays ceremony, many just adolescents in 2001. Really important for them to know how close the fire service is how serious our work is. Reporter a predawn ceremony took place at station 1. They tweeted out, the last alarm. [ bell ] reporter these Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department ceremonies were in honor of all the victims of september 11th, their families, First Responders and all members of the military who have since engaged. People call us when they dont know what else to do. And its our job to know what to do. Reporter in San Francisco, mayor lee echoes the importance of the job. I use the term city family and we are and want them to feel like family because we know that sacrifices may end up risking, um, their lives or injuries in order to save others. When asked what changed most for First Responders since 9 11, the fire chief here in San Francisco said, basically a greater awareness of manmade disasters and that they really could happen at any time. How long will they continue to hold this remembrance . Reporter fire chief hayes white said she has been asked that question many times. Ambassador Chris Stevens killed in benghazi, libya last year when militants stormed the u. S. Consulate two years ago. Stevens had strong ties to the bay area, grew up in piedmont and attended ucberkeley. Lawmakers are getting classified briefings on president obamas plan to battle isis. It falls upon us congress and the American People to rally behind the president on his decisive strategy. Grieving family and friends are gathering together to hold a funeral for a teenager who was stabbed to death in San Francisco. The service for 14yearold Rashawn Williams started at 9 00 this morning at saint marys. He was stabbed last week in the mission district. Police arrested a 14yearold boy for the killing. The National Football league says former fbi director Robert Mueller will lead an investigation into the nfls handling of the ray rice situation. Add issue is Surveillance Video that shows rice punching his fiancee on an elevator in new jersey. No League Officials allegedly saw the video until tmz posted it.
