The people of antioch this week saying investigators are working to solve the open cases on their desks. But that many witnesses have been uncooperative. Compared to richmond, they actually have a smaller population and a lot more officers, 190. It turns out the dodgers are partially responsible for the brutal attack on bryan stow. Thats what a los angeles jury decided yesterday. And they awarded stow 18 million. The 45yearold giants fan was left with a serious brain injury after he was attacked by two dodgers fans during a home opener in l. A. In 2012. The thing, he did get some money to help his future and thats what we wanted. He is not going to be, uhm, 100 maybe for a long time, maybe never. But what he gets will help him through now. I feel like its a victory and its and its a big weight off our shoulders. The dodgers were held liable for 14 million in medical expenses and a million for pain and suffering. The two men convicted of beating stow by the way were held accountable for 3 million. Former dodgers own other Frank Mccourt was found not liable. We were seeing more yellow sensors a little earlier. So it looks like things are slowly improving. They are trying to get more lanes open now in hercules. Initially they had hoped to get everything back open and all those traffic lights restored by 7 30. Happening today, cannabis clubs in san jose are fighting a plan to shut them down. They are planning a massive rally. Cannabis clubs and their supporters are planning that rally to stop the city from shutting them down. Kiet do is live at city hall where the rally will take place. Reporter quite a few people will be out here in a couple of hours desperately trying to get enough signatures before a lot of the pot clubs will have to close by july 18. Collectors have been out for a couple of days trying to get 100,000 signatures to put the referendum on the November Ballot and to reverse the new rules. Three of the biggest changes involve requiring dispensaries to grow their own marijuana, forcing them into Industrial Zones, and also requiring them to make all their own edibles like cookies and brownies. Under these new rules, nearly all 73 dispensaries will face closure in eight days forcing a lot of patients to go elsewhere with 1,000 employees losing their jobs. With the citys regulations it would be virtually impossible to continue to operate so what were doing is a referendum to change what the city is doing. If theres going to be a campaign, i will form the committee, raise the money and organize the effort to protect children, schools and neighborhoods. Reporter the first 1,000 people to show up at the protest will get a free medical evaluation and if they qualify a free cannabis card. Thats just for attending, not for signing the petition. Some dispensaries came under fire during the primaries a few weeks ago when they promised premarijuana to anybody who voted. The protest will go from noon to 7 p. M. Today. Alix tichelman appeared in court yesterday. The charges include manslaughter and heroin possession. Prosecutors say the manslaughter could be upgraded to murder charges. Police say tichelman gave Forrest Hayes a lethal dose of heroin on his luxury yacht in november. I feel bad for the family and what they went through and what really came of this whole thing. Much of the evidence is on video from a Security Camera in the boats cabin. Police told the Santa Cruz Sentinel it shows tichelman drinking a glass of wine and a fingerprint from that glass helped identify her. Witnesses said people were tossing babies out of second floor windows in an effort to get them to safety. Fire Officials Say some people were killed, others were also taken to area hospitals. A man is under arrest for the murders of four children and two adults near houston, texas. The suspect was cornered and caught after a 15yearold girl who survived the shooting called police. She told them the shooter was on his way to kill her grandparents. The suspect was apparently distraught over a recent breakup with his wife. Officials say that he was related to the victims. One of the californias most notorious criminals is a free man this morning. Dont touch me do not touch me tempers flared yesterday when Christopher Hubbart arrived at his new home near palmdale. Protestors are determined to get the socalled pillowcase rapist out of their neighborhood. Hubbart raped dozens of women including at least 15 in the bay area. I want him to go away. I want him to fear us so bad because well be here day and night whatever it takes, i want him to feel the fear that his women that he attacked felt. Hubbart has aware a gps ankle bracelet at all times and also has a curfew. A violent summer has people worried about their safety in antioch. Kpix 5s anne makovec has the latest developments from the east bay. Reporter more than one shooting per day over the last two weeks here in antioch. Police blame this on a mix of drug activity and gangs. Newcomers moving into the city basically battling it out for power on the streets. Thats where people who live here say they simply feel unsafe. Its all the time. Dont know if its firecrackers. Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, like that. You hear Police Sirens and helicopters and just pray that aint nobody seriously hurt around here. Reporter according to the east county times, 16 people have been shot in antioch over the past two weeks including an 11yearold boy. There have been 30 shootings since the year began. We are trying everything we can. Reporter the mayor pro tem of antioch says her constituents are bombarding her with questions. What were doing is we have given as much as we can to the chief. Reporter the chief wrote a Facebook Post to the people of antioch a few days ago. He said several of the shootings have happened in the sycamore drive area and that investigators believe many of them are related to gangs or drugs or both. And he says many witnesses have been uncooperative. He is now planning what they call a crime suppression operation that will send officers on overtime into high crime areas. People who live here can only hope. That it will change soon so we can feel safe, and and feel safe. Reporter now, the department wont say when that plan to send extra officers on overtime into some of these neighborhoods will start because of Operational Security. The raiders plans throw a wrench into the plan to give the as a new 10year lease. Mayor quan is pushing for a new coliseum city complex that would be more than just fancy new digs for the two teams. This comes on top of job openings in may that were near a 7year high and also the overall Unemployment Rate in june for the country down to 6. 1 , also a multiyear low. They will be here in just a couple of hours trying desperately to gather enough signatures before a july 18 closure deadline. Collectors have been out in force over the past couple of days trying to get 100,000 signatures. They will put a referendum on the November Ballot and try to reverse these tough new rules. Three of the biggest changes involved requiring the dispensaries to grow their own marijuana forcing them into Industrial Zones and requiring them to manufacture their own edibles like cookies and brownies. Under the new rules, nearly all 73 dispensaries and collectives will close in 8 days. 1,000 employees will lose their jobs.
