Reporter well, the cleaners are still trying to mop up homes here at the end of carr near paul street. This is the low point where the water pooled after a 12 main broke around midnight in the bayview. Its two blocks from here. They are able to cap that line just about 4 a. M. It seems it was slowing for about four hours. A lot of precious water going down the drain. Right now, they are trying to pump out that residual so they can get to the line assess the damage and estimate when the three blocks of homeowners will get their water back. They are cut off right now on whats suppose to be a 90 degree day. Thats not great. 6 to 7 homes damaged down here. They are trying to mop that up, as well. Holly, do they know the cause of the break . Reporter no. Thats what theyre trying to d right now. They cant get down to the line because there was so much water pooling up so they are pumping that water out so they can get to the line to assess damage. They dont know whoing you its going to take to fix that because they they dont know how long its going to take to fix that because they dont know where it is. Down here they are trying to mop up the water that pooled up in the lowlying garages and actually theres just, you know, mud and silt and dirt all in the street as you imagine from four hours of having water rushing down your street. It looks like such a mess. We are looking at flooding in the streets. Do they have an estimate of how much damage its caused . Reporter i think they will wait until daylight. There are still a lot of houses and homes and doors they knocked on overnight and got no response so its possible there may be still some damaged homes down here. They just havent been able to talk to the homeowners yet. At daylight they may come through here and do another round of assessments but you know, this is probably just a preliminary stage. Right now they are still just trying to get down to where the broken line is and figure out what went wrong but they do say that this is now the aging infrastructure of the city. They do need to replace these lines. I talked to one of the homeowners who said about a month ago there was another water main break.
