Reporter good morning. It was a crazy afternoon here. Today we are hoping to find out the identity of this shooter. He was here at the Construction Zone behind me at cesar chavez and valencia. Police say he was pointing his gun at st. Lukes hospital which is right next door and also pointing his gun at police. It all came to a headon top of the Construction Zone where police say that man was pointing one gun and he was in possession of two guns. One gun he had stolen earlier in the day from the big 5 store in san bruno. Heres what police are saying on the radios as they shot and killed that man. Shots fired, shots fired seal off two block radius i just took my shot. The suspect is slumped over. Looked like he dropped at least one long gun. We have eyes on him. We are on the roof of the hospital. He is not moving. He has a shotgun. I dont see any movement at all. Reporter before police fired the deadly shot, they locked down st. Lukes hospital. So quite a scary experience for those patients and families. Police also threw a few flash bang grenades toward the man hoping to scare him down. We still dont know how he got to the sixth floor of the construction site or what exactly he intended to do up there. But we do know the gunman fired at least one round. Then i saw the construction just like running, running. Most bizarre experience, like, i have ever seen in my entire life. Reporter yeah. And it did affect a lot of people from people at the hospital to the construction workers. Everybody around the neighborhood, this was right around rush hour around 5 p. M. So a lot of people very concerned. But again, that man is dead. All we know about him is that he is an hispanic man in his 20s. Live near the mission district, anne makovec, kpix 5. Chp investigators believe two shootings on 80 in the east bay are connected. The shootings tuesday night and last week happened on the stretch of freeway between san pablo and pinole. More now from kpix 5s christin ayers. Reporter they happened within four miles of each other. The latest right here in pinole. Highway patrol says someone opened fire on an audi killing a man and injuring a woman in the car. That shooting almost identical to one that happened november 2 on i80 at San Pablo Dam road. The man who was in this bullet riddled hyundai was shot but lived. Theres been evidence discovered that both these shootings are directly related to each other. Reporter how they are related, authorities are not saying. But they claim the public is not in danger. These targets were specific and not random. Reporter but beam living in pinole told me People Living in pinole told me with the gunman still out there they no longer feel safe driving this stretch of the interstate. I definitely feel that people are scared. I want to stay indoors. I dont even want to go outside, especially, you know, it could happen anytime of the day. Reporter Highway Patrol says finding the gunman will mean tracking down witnesses who noticed anything strange in the area the night of each shooting, a car crash not far from the scene, for example. An east bay man facing multiple felony charges after police say he sped away from a traffic stop. 28yearold sal espinoza was arrested yesterday after his car plowed into nine vehicles on 29th street in richmond. That was about a half mile from the attempted traffic stop in san pablo. Witnesses say he tried to get out of his car but was trapped. Police and paramedics showed up a short time later. Bystanders applauded when the man was taken away. Finally he was brought to a hospital. Investigators say drugs and a loaded gun were found inside his car. Work is under way to make a San Francisco intersection less dangerous. Crews could be seen paving yesterday at bay and buchanan streets. Stop signs are being added at lane configuration will change in an effort to slow traffic. The intersection was the scene of an accident last week when a suspected drunk driver hit two 12yearold boys. Julian melendez and peter nguyen were in the crosswalk heading to school. Witness say the driver went around an Ice Cream Truck and struck them. The wouldist went flying in the air the boys went flying in the air and landed across the street. You can expect the usual backup if the toll lanes. We generally have backups there just before the shift change. So expect those backups just in those on the lefthand side of the toll plaza. Overall, the bay bridge commute looks okay. And keep in mind as part of that massive central subway project, 4th and king in San Francisco remain shut down, will be closed until sunday. Right now there is a detour in place. It will cost you about an extra 5 minutes or so to get through there. Meantime, its fog that may slow you down along 280. I know i ran into it between redwood city and the millbrae area. So do keep that in mind. Getting to and through the peninsula, highway 92 still flowing well over at the san mateo bridge. Today investigators from the ntsb will return to the scene of the deadly plane crash in ohio. All nine people on board the plane were killed on tuesday. The westbound commute direction is between grand and maze for the next 30 minutes or so. So take it easy if you plan to make that commute. Slow down through the Construction Zone. Westbound at the bay bridge toll plaza still flowing well no big delays heading into San Francisco. Just keep in mind, massive construction because of the central subway project 4th and king shut down through the week. Meantime heading for the 280 commute, we have been talking about fog. Fog will be an issue for some commutes this morning. So far no major accidents out there. Traffic still flowing well for the commute at the san mateo bridge westbound traffic still moving well leaving the hayward area bound for foster city. Its a 13minute drive time between hayward and the peninsula. Heading for the altamont pass, that 580 drive is going to be slow now from the 205 interchange to about vasco. No delays yet through pleasanton. Live pictures of the 580 680 interchange, and so far that commute is holding steady.
