So the hackers would sell this to the sellers. The sellers would sell it to a lower group that would use these at atms to make purchases. What do companies do about this . You look at a hit like this, 300 million in losses, 160 million credit cards, and, you know, the good news is it wasnt passed on to the consumer. The bad news in the end it always is because the companies have to make up the loss somewhere. Last week, july 18th on wall street, the big banks brought in the fbi, dhs, the cyber command, and they did this drill where hackers attacked the financial systems, the stock markets. Now you have this indictment of his firm and almost never do you see the Justice Department indict an entire firm. The Justice Department alleges Insider Trading on an unprecedented scale. Why did they go after him personally . They cant go after him personally, they dont have enough evidence. Im going to caveat that. They would love to go after him personally. They have been trying for a long time. You could see last week the sec, securities and exchange commission, brought a civil case, alleging that cohen hadnt supervised employees properly. Thats a pretty weak charge. Even the civil authorities, the civil regulators, couldnt charge cohen with Insider Trading. Meaning theres no way the criminal authorities have enough evidence to go after him personally. Bethany, they called this firm a veritable magnet of market cheaters. Was involved with systemic Insider Trading schemes in most of the past decade. Why did it take so long . Pretty harsh language. The rumors have been flying about cohen since at least the early 2,000s among other hedge funds that this was a firm that systemically engaged in Insider Trading. People have always report ed that on nights when there is a full moon, they sleepless well, it takes longer to fall asleep, they sleep for less time. It was not typically how good science was done but it yielded good results. In 2000, a group of researchers in switzerland were conducting a study over the course of three years checking how they slept and how long they slept trying to determine the sleep differences based on age and gender. It was only a decade later, the same researchers sitting at a bar at a full moon said, i wonder what would happen if we went back and looked at that data and lined it up against the lunar cycles on the night we conducted the study. What is it that the moon does to us . Once we eliminate light and gra gravity, the best explanation, we evolved on a certain planet in a certain environment with a certain set of cosmic and ter rest treeal cycles like seasonal cycles, daily cycles and we adopted those cycles just like flowering plants adopt those cycles. It is probably the best job anybody can have on television, to be a medical examiner on a procedural show. You get to be a part of it but you dont have to run after crooks and go out there and hang from bridges and do stuff. You just have your hands in phoney body cavities. Did you do anything special to prepare for having your hands in dirty body cavities . A lot of cooking, a lot of stuffing of turkeys and things like that. Oh, no. What attracted you to that role honestly . It was interesting. It was different. The character was a woman who has certainly her own style and her own mind. I find science interesting and it was being able to dabble in something that i had never encountered before. Watching the videotape of saturday night live, you are amazed at how many talented people have been on that show over the years. Who was memorable for you . Gilda, billy, danny, lorraine. I look at people like jan hooks, who was probably one of the bravest actresses i have ever worked with. Billy crystal, who is just delightful and fabulous. What made it so good, the talent that was there . I think it was the talent. I also think it was the fact that it didnt really have a plan when it first started out. So it was allowed to evolve into something and it evolved into this thing that has lasted for centuries. Then, there is lauren. Then, there is lorne, the man at the top who despite himself has a huge hit on his hands. Take that, lorne. He was very sort of longsuffering and understandably so. Whether you ask writers to cut a sketch and they add 8 00 to it, thats hard, specially when you have 20 minutes left. I grew up watching saturday night live. That was Appointment Television in our house. I am a big fan of yours. What was it like being a woman in comedy in the 1970s . Was it rough . Yeah, yeah, it was hard but i wasnt really in comedy. I came from improv and it was comedy but it was also really topical. So, basically, my focus was on news and making everything topical. The comedy came out of that. So i was never in standup. I never worked alone. That would be very, very difficult. I cant imagine what it would be like for a woman in the 70s to do that. There were women that did that back then. But it was hard to be accepted within the realm, because comedy at that time was very masculine, very meanspirited, very ardhitting and women were considered too soft to be funny, because you really had to blow something up in order to make people laugh.
