For those of you driving on president s day monday, i have know slowdowns, delays to slow your right. In the San Ramon Valley, theres no delays here. A 16minute drive time. We dont even have slow traffic this morning on interstate 80 or highway 4. Mark. All right. Thank you, george. The search continuing for whoever fired shots at someone, hitting them right outside of the bart station on Market Street. Shoppers went scrambling. Live at the westfield. We have more on the person shot there and the look for the shooter. Reporter this is a holiday weekend. A lot of people not working on monday. It was even busier last night with shoppers out, great weather, when all of a suspect comes up around this location in front of the westfield mall. The victim was standing in front. He fires several shots. After being shot, the victim staggers around. There are a couple of escalators that go down to the bart platform. Thats how bart was involved in all of this. This happened around 7 15 last night. Lots of people on the street. No one got a good look at the suspect. The reason why is they were caught off guard once they heard a couple of pop, pop, pop, they all scattered done Market Street, inside of the westfield mall. People barricaded themselves inside the stores. Nobody got a good look to see who what was doing the shooting. Then the suspect flees on foot. There is no description of the suspect at this point. But i can tell you that the man he is at sf general this morning, lifethreatening injuries. No name. We know he is in his late teens or early 20s. Back to you. Well check back with you for an update. The man struck and killed by a muni train has been identified. It happened yesterday. The medical examiner says that Michael Mendez was killed at the powell street station on the tracks. He was a transient and may have fallen on to the tracks. Officers are still looking for the driver of the car that hit and killed the pedestrian. This happened here near snell and woods avenue. The fight started at a flea market and carried out into the street. We have several witnesses that we transported to the Police Department and the investigation is getting pieced together as we speak. All we know about the man who was hit and killed is that he was in his 30s. Police are asking for your help this morning in finding the murderer of a 16yearold girl in fairfield. The victim is naomi rojas and she was shot near the train tracks. Investigators havent said if they have any suspects and thats why theyre asking the public for help. Today is president s day. That means a lot of offices and businesses will be closed. All federal and state courts are closed along with the department of motor vehicles, banks are closed and post offices. Most schools are closed as well. And the stock market closed today in observance of the holiday. Public transit also affected by the holiday today. Bart and muni are using a sunday schedule. A golden gate transit is operating ferries on the weekend schedule. Cal train is running on a holiday set schedule. Ac transit is using sunday schedule and all parking meters are still enforced on this president s day. A lot of people have the day off from work and school. For new americans, today is more than that. It is the day that they become citizens. Nearly 18,000 immigrants becoming u. S. Citizens in honors of president s day. They have been taking oaths of allegiances since friday and even more will be taking the oath today. New this morning, George Zimmerman says he was a scapegoat. This as he opens up for the first time in a cnn interview about the night that he killed Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was acquitted of Second Degree murder and manslaughter in the death seven months ago. He maintains that he shot martin in self defense. In the interview, zimmerman says he was the victim. You dont think it was about the law . I know it wasnt. Yes. What does that make you . Like a scapegoat. A scapegoat for . The government. The president. The attorney general. They would be scapegoating you why . Just to show that theyre taking a position on something that matters to a lot of people . I dont know what theyre thinking or why theyre thinking it. All i know is theyre doing it. I dont know what agenda they have. So there he is saying that the president and the attorney general are after him. Calling himself a scapegoat. Hundreds of Flights Canceled or delayed. Domino effect all over the country. We could see delays because of that. What would you do if well, today is supposed to be a holiday. But its not a snow day. Continues a holiday. A lot of kids have to go to school to make up snow days. In indiana they decided to have classes today for that reason. And districts across the northeast are considering skipping their spring breaks because they have 11 days to make up. They figure if they cancel bring break and push the last day of school into june, they can make up the time. We have summertime coming up. Thats a bummer because the kids off here in the bay area will look forward to sunshine and mild weather. Great day to be at the park. Not the day to lay out the beach. But we could see that type of weather heading into the weekend. I want to focus on the holiday forecast. We are waking up to mostly Clear Conditions. We have areas of valley fog mainly in the north bay around napa. But temperatures are predominantly in the 30s and 40s. San francisco at 48. By this afternoon at 3 00, expect plenty of sunshine. Highs mainly in the 60s. A seasonal day ahead with fairfield at 64. 62 in concord. 50s along the coast and 63 down in san jose. By 8 00 tonight, were going to hold on to Clear Conditions. It looks like temperatures mostly in the upper 40s, low 50s. We are looking at dry weather ahead with the exception of tomorrow. Could see a few sprinkles in the north bay late tuesday night into early wednesday morning. Past that windy weather, we will take hold and that will carry us into the weekend. On sunday, were talking about afternoon highs in the low 70s. At 7 14, lets take a look at the roads. Hey, george. Were looking at a light ride on this holiday monday. No metering lights at the bay bridge toll traffic. The Golden Gate Bridge completely clear in both directions as is 92, the san mateo bridge. Drive times are 11 minutes, not just eastbound but eastbound. And for your ride to the rich man san raphael bridge, no delays over towards san raphael. Looking at the traffic maps, there is a minor incident on 24 in the westbound direction here around Pleasant Hill road. An accident cleared to the shoulder. So its slow traffic from the 680 interchange but not enough to worry about. It wont cost you much in the way of time. The rest of your east bay rides look great. Even 580 through the pass look at this, no slowing at all. South bay freeways are grand with no problems out to cupertino and the marine ride is still under 25 minutes to the golden game bridge. Thank you, george. 7 15. We have new video in this morning of a plane that was hijacked. It was hijacked by the copilot. The pilot was seeking asylum in switzerland so he took control the aircraft when the other pilot was in the bathroom and locked him outment the copilot was in the cockpit by himself. The plane lands in geneva and the copilot was arrested. Three u. S. Diplomats kicked out of venezuela. Those americans work at the u. S. Console. Here is the president accusing them of using their diplomatic status. Washington is denying the allegations. The body of a famous Fashion Designer has been found floating in the hudson river. Reported missing a week ago, he was discovered near the boat that he lived where that boat was docked. The cause of death has not been determined. Its not clear how he ended up in the river. But police dont suspect foul play. The designer was last seen live leaving a nearby nightclub early thursday morning. He designed hand crafted suits for celebrities and had a boutique in manhattan. Two teens are recovering after an explosion in their home. They were trying to start a fire in the fireplace and they had used rocket fuel from a school project. You can see the broken windows in the living room and kitchen. The two boysare cousins. Investigators found several home made bottle rockets in the home. Right now we are waking up to a few high clouds, patchy fog forming in the north bay valleys. Temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Approaching the afternoon, plenty of 60s out there. Light traffic all around the bay area. For those of you driving this morning, you could get there in half the normal time since there are no commute delays. Ace train on a modified scheduled because typically they dont run on holidays but they are running today with one less train in the morning commute. And its a saturday schedule for the muni metro. Mark. Thank you, george. Police are investigating a gruesome discovery. A burned body found saturday night outside of a popular park in the Oakland Hills. Reporter east bay regional park. Police responded to a report of a person on fire. Around 10 30 saturday night, the severely burned body was found in this parking lot outside of the Redwood Regional Park entrance off of sky line believed. Its likely that the body was found here at this parking spot where you can see that the asphalt looks charred. I spoke to one eyewitness who didnt want to appear on camera. He didnt know what he was coming across until he heard the news the next morning. I saw Something Like a bonfire going on in the corner. It was definitely a different shape about 6 feet long. There was a car behind it. No activity going on as far as people around it. It was in the parking lot. By the time i had driven by, the fire was burning out. Its horrible to think that was a person and i had driven by. Reporter investigators are checking the car for evidence. Its unknown if its connected with the victim. Police have very little else to go on. The conditions of the remains are such that at this point they cant determine the age or race of the victim. At this time, investigators think the body is of that an adult female. Were going to call it a suspicious death. We dont know if it was homicide or something that was self inflicted. Reporter because the remains are so badly burned its unclear how long it will take for the body to be identified. Maureen kelly, kron 4 news. San Francisco Police are still looking for a group of men who stabbed two other men in the city Richmond District. It happened at the intersection of gary boulevard and 3rd avenue. There was a call of a fight in the area. When they arrived, they found a 29yearold man with cuts to his hands and face and another man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Witnesses say the suspects are asian men and fled in a two door sedan. San deal withing a rash of vehicle breakins. More than a dozen happened just last night. Reporter here in San Francisco on this monday morning, beware. That is the message. Here is why. Take a look at this car. As you can see, the window has been smashed in. Police say as many as 20 cars were broken into on fulton last week. A resident sent this picture in. Thieves stole mostly personal items. Police say that they are on top of it, adding more patrols to the area. They are also reminding people to make sure that they take everything of value out of a car after parking it. Police say a newlywed couple just wanted to kill somebody together. The woman is accused of killing somebody she met through craigslist and she has killed dozens other. I said what is the actual number . And she said under 100. Reporter the reporter in pennsylvania finally got his jailhouse interview with miranda barber on friday. She floored him with claims of killing people starting when she was in 13 years old in california, texas, and other states. I asked do you have any remorse whatsoever and she said none. Reporter the now 19year old barber and her husband have entered not guilty pleas in a separate case. Police say that the newly weds just wanted to kill someone together so they found the man through craigslist. On friday, the body was found in the backyard of a home in sunberry. He had been strangled and stabbed 20 times. He says that barber claims to have only killed those that she considered bad people. She claims to have killed fewer man 100, having stopped counting at 22. You know, you can take Everything Else that she said in the interview and you can take all of the numbers that she threw around and all of that out. But the more surprising thing is the fact that she said if she got out, she would do it again. Reporter if her claims are actually true, its hard to say. Investigators are looking into it. Growers in the nation premiere wine region brought in a bumper crop last year because of an expanded average and overall favorable weather. Wine grapes are one of the states top commodities worth 1. 36 billion last year. Wine brokers say the large harvest will mean plenty of bargain bottles when the 2013 vintage is released. State Health Officials are warning people not to eat cactus sold in several stores around the state because of a presence of an unapproved pesticide. A recent inspection of cacti reported from mexico found traces of the pesticide which has been barred for use in the u. S. Since 1989. It can leave to permanent nerve damage. Officials are urging anyone to buy the product at the following stores from february 6th and 12th to return it to or get rid of it. Here is a list of the store thats sold the cactus. All of the approaches look good. San mateo bridge the and golden gate look good as well. Here is a look at 92. The camera looks westward from the toll plaza. 11 minutes either eastbound or westbound. For your trip to the san raphael bridge, an easy ride. No backup coming up from the toll plaza. A 16minute commute from the San Ramon Valley. Still just a 14minute drive for the east shore freeway. What delays we had on 24 have cleared up. South bay, theres a little congestion on 101 northbound. But the drive time out of the Coyote Valley is only 18 minutes. There was some sort of an argument between them, slapping each other. And they didnt have makeup sex. I dont know. Somebody lost money probably. Okay. So he got arrested in. So they got yeah, he got arrested. How about her . They probably let her off. She is not famous. It caught my eye because i almost got arrested at grayton. For fighting. I went there for the first time over the weekend. Gary, i dont know where the ins and outs. Im walking through. I thought ill cut through this table to the other. The guy said im going to have the federal come and or you can move. Where is grayton located. Up in santa rosa. Wow. Its all in the news and everything. I know that. But you went. Im not being funny. You went to gamble . I thought i would check it out. I had dinner and then i went to the 21, the black jack. More faux paus. You can talk or you cant talk. The bet, i changed my mind. Im going to take my chips off. Everybody yells at me. They said, maam, you cant do no. The guy was so its something about a federal offense. Wow. And i said im sorry. Ill move. They didnt know who you were then. Obviously not. You could have ruined the casino with bad publicity. I liked it though and i won a little money. I had a 40 limit. Big spender. Thats good. Its fun. What about the allstar game that you said you werent going to watch. I didnt say i wasnt gooding to watch it. You said that it is boring to you. Wasnt me. That wasnt you. That was george. You get george and i mixed up. Either way there wasnt a big shining moment for them. The 3pointer contest didnt work out for him either. He was okay. Nobody guarded anybody. Thats the general tone. Maybe if you heard another friend or somebody say these allstar games. But i watched. Excuse me. Did you see the half court . Look at this. Forget the 3pointers. Maybe that was too close for him. He was just chucking it from half court. Yeah. He had a tough time. His shooting wasnt there. And his mom was cute. You know, she was but he distinguished himself last night by setting up other guys. So is what you spent the weekend doing . That and the curling . What else did i watch last night . I watched a little bit of that and oh my gosh im trying to think what else i watched. He had a rerun of the bet honors. Its a dead time, isnt it. Life is what you make of it. You can go gamble or spend time with your children. On the couch watching tv. Im sports director. Thats a funny job when you say to your kids in a sense, dad cant do anything because hes working. Its weird. The concept of when they watch people watch tv, they say he must be working. Be quiet. I tell you, my kids all watch tv off of their computers. Me too. Everybody has a tablet and watching separate things. Im worried about you. Dont get that gambling bug. I wont. Trust me. The search continuing for whoever terrified shoppers shooting a man on a crowded Market Street outside of the bart station across from the westfield center. Will has more. Reporter you see the family with the stroller, the shooting took place right there. The victim was standing there. We talk today a witness. He wouldnt go on camera. He said that he saw two men jumping out of a moving car. One man did all of the shooting. After the victim was shot, he staggers around here and thats the bart platform. The escalators to the bart platform. He goes down there and then the Police Officers arrive. Here is video of the scene. It happened at 7 15 last night on a busy weekend. After the shoppers heard all of the shots, they didnt stick around. They just scattered which is why we dont have any suspect description this morning. People were running inside. They stayed inside the stores or simply ran down Market Street. We know that the victim was rushed to sf general. He is still there this morning. Lifethreatening conditions. According to the San Francisco Police Department, they believe only one person was involved. But we talked to the witness and he said there was a slow moving car that came along Market Street. Two men jumped out. One man did all of the shooting and then after the shots were fired, they took down Market Street and reconnected with that moving car. Back to you, mark. Thanks for the update. The man who was struck and killed by a muni train yesterday has been identified as Michael Mendez. He was killed at the powell street station. His body found there on the tracks. Police say he was a transient and may have unintentionally fallen on to the tracks. An argument in san jose leaves a man dead in a hit and run. Officers are still looking for that driver of the car that hit and killed the pedestrian. This happened near snell and wood avenue. The physical start started first at a nearby flea market and carried out into the street. We have witnesses that we transported to the Police Department. And the investigation is getting pieced together as we speak. The only information we have about the victim is that it was a man in his 30s. Police are warning people of two people who are posing as a city utility workers and burglarized a home. It happened on february 8th. The burglars are described as a man and a woman in their 20s and they say to the residents that they are inspecting for flooding. And so the homeowner allowed them to come in. Thats when the burglars took numerous items as they left in a small darkcolored pickup truck. A reminder that it is president s day. A lot of closures today. A few minutes later, a word came in of another accident involving the chp officers. At this point we have learned that two officers have died in this accident. And police are investigating a badly burned body found in Redwood Regional Park in the Oakland Hills over the weekend. Oakland fire and Police Responding around 10 15 saturday night to a report of a body on fire in the parking lot connected to a park trail. Investigators say they cant determine the age or race of the victim but say the body appears to be an adult female. Residents in the area are shocked this happened in their neighborhood. The fact that it happened at 10 15 in the evening where a lot of people are Walking Around with their dog. And then secondly the type of incident that it was. Right now police are calling this a suspicious death. They do not know if its a homicide or something that was self inflicted. Plisses also say its unclear how long it will take to identify the body since it was so badly burned. Police are look for a group of men who stab today other men in the Richmond District of San Francisco. It happened on 3rd avenue. Police got a call that there was a fight in that area. When they got there, they found a 29yearold man. He had cuts on his hands and his face and then another man had multiple stab wounds. Witnesses describe the suspects as asian males taking off in a twodoor sedan. And police are asking for your help in trying to find the killer of a 16yearold girl in fairfield. Authorities identify the victim as naomi rojas. Investigators havent said if they have any suspects. But they are asking for anybody to come forward with information. Police are dealing with a rash of burglaries in San Francisco. Theresa reports more than a dozen happened just last night. She is accused of killing a man that she found on craigslist with her newlywed husband. She said in an interview that she stopped counting after 22, saying she started killing people when she was 13 years old. She claims to have victims all across the nation from alaska to texas to north carolina. She is a self proclaimed satanist. You know, you can take Everything Else that she said in the interview and you can take all of the numbers she threw around. But the more surprising thing to me is the fact that she said if she got out, she would do it again. She is accused of killing dozens of people. If its actually true, we dont know where this case is going to go. She is just charged with the one murder. They are entering a not guilty plea to the murder of the man that you saw right there. Police say that they wanted to kill someone together. And so they lured him with an ad on craigslist. And the latest victim of all the snow and ice across the southeast is a famous tree. The eisenhower tree has now been removed. It was damaged in the ice storm over the weekend. It was named after eisenhower, a member at the golf club. For the Richmond San Raphael bridge, no backup or delays on the approach to the span. And tracking the drive around the bay as we look at the traffic maps. We will start with a trip through the east bay. Weve added about four minutes to the drive time. 20 minutes now from hercules to berkeley. West 24 looks good. No delays in the San Ramon Valley or the pass. The south bay freeway are fine as well. A little slowing on 101 northbound. But the drive times under 20s minutes from the Coyote Valley up to mountain view. The marine drive has been under 20 minutes all morning long to the bridge. A snake handling reality show star died this weekend. He was the star of snake salvation. He was bitten during a service at his church in southeastern kentucky on saturday. He crossed the pulpit and i stood on the other side and i seen him drop the snakes. Police continuing to search for the shooter. Police say this is not random. They believe that the man who was shot was targeted. The man was struck and killed by a train yesterday has been identified. It was Michael Mandez and he was killed at the powell street station. People think he was a transient and might have accidentally fallen onto the tracks. Police are asking for your help to find the killer of this 16yearold girl in fairfield. She was shot saturday morning on phoenix drive near the train tracks. Investigators have not said if they have any sus pebts. And an argument leaves a man dead in a hit and run. We talked to a witness who didnt want to go on camera. He said he saw a slow moving car, 2 men jumped out, 1 man went directly to the victim and fired the shots. That goes with what the Police Department told us. They dont believe this was random, that the victim was targeted. He staggers around and those are escalators. He goes down and thats where he was found. He was rushed to the hospital into surgery and at last check he has life threatening injuries. His name is not being released. We know hes a man in his late teens to early 20s. As far as the shooters in this case, the Police Department dont have a description because when the shots were fired everyone ran down Market Street and many ran inside the mall for cover. Police are investigating a badly burned body found in Redwood Regional Park. Oakland fire and Police Responding saturday night to a report of a body on fire in a parking lot connected to a park trail. Investigators say they cant determine the age or the race of the victim but say the body appears to be an adult female. It happened at 10 30 in the evening when a lot of people are walking their dogs. And the type of incident that it was. Reporter police are only calling it a suspicious death. They dont know if it was a homicide or if it was selfindmrikt flicted. San Francisco Police are looking for a group of men who stabbed 2 other men in the Richmond District. Police got a call there was a fight and they found a 29yearold man who had cuts to his face and man and another man was stabbed multiple times. Asian mans got away in a 2door sedan. Reporter the now 19yearold Miranda Barbour and her husband have entered not guilty pleas. They just wanted to kill someone together so they found a 42yearold through a companionship ad on craigslist. The body was found in the backyard of a home. He had been stabbed 20 times. The last number dialed led police to Miranda Barbour. She claims to have only killed those who she considereded bad people. She claims to have killed fewer than 100. You can take all of Everything Else she said and you can take all of the numbers that she threw around out, but the more surprising thing would be the fact that she said if she got out shed do it again. We havent seen anything here in the way of a backup. The Golden Gate Bridge has been light. Over on 92, 11 minute transit time on the bridge whether eastbound or westbound. The right side of the screen, a little heavier. On 580 to richmond bridge, this is the heaviest traffic weve seen all morning long in the westbound direction. For the first time, theres a bit of a delay here approaching the cash lanes at the toll plaza. And looking at the traffic maps, interstate 80 clear. 680 no delays southbound. This has been an easy ride. We saw some slowing for livermoore but thats cleared out. In the north bay its been an easy trip all morning long leaving from nevado down to the Golden Gate Bridge. A victim of the ice storm across the southeast, the famous eisenhower tree at the golf course has been removed. The tree was damaged from the ice storm over the weekend. It was named after the former president eisenhower who was a member. He lobbied to have the tree removed at one point because he hit the tree so many times. The request was always delayed.
