Kron fours Spencer Blake brings us a look from the town hall meeting where watergate was a major point of comparison between the two. More than seven hundred people showed up to hear from john dean, the former attorney for president nixon. Dean was involved in the watergate coverup, and later gave testimony to congress that implicated the president , himself, and others in the scandal. Accountability for a president. I cant think of anything more important at any time, and particularly at this time. And thats just what congresswoman barbara lee brought people together for sunday to talk about that facts surrounding the Trump Administration and russian hacking, and what Congress Might be able to do with those facts. We still need an independent investigation because we dont want the white house to influence and my district certainly doesnt want the white house to influence the direction of these investigations. Audience members lined up to ask questions, and more than one of them were hoping to get President Trump out of office for his accused collusion with russian meddling into the 2016 election. They asked about possibilities like impeachment, and using the emoluments clause, which representative lee says she is looking into. Dean also addressed the 25th amendment, which deals with a president who is unable to discharge his duties as president but the former Attorney Says that one would probably be an even slower process that would still be just as partisan as impeachment. I did get the chance to ask dean after the event whether he thought trumps term in office will last its full four years. He said that all depends on the 2018 election. If theres a seismic change in the house in 2018, i think his administration will end much differently than otherwise. Barring that, i think it could be four years of chaos. One of the town hall participant who remembers watergate told me shes also wondered whether trumps term will end similarly to nixons. The danger of chaos is so great that im keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out. If there was any collusion between donald trump and the russians, our generation will hear about it much faster than americans learned about nixon and watergate.
