And now Council Member is pushing for the unhoused to be moved to an old oakland army base. But city staff say the site is to environmentally hazardous and it would be too costly to make the area livable. But whats residents who hang in the balance . The situation has become desperate. In time of greatest need, theres not a single lawmaker in the state of california. That is shown a touch a shred of sympathy and at their meeting earlier this week, the city council asked city staff to come up with a plan to temporarily house how what street, what residents at the old army base. Happening today. More sights and sounds of fleet week. The blue angels will be taking in the skies to practice ahead of tomorrows big show. Kron fours Charles Clifford cut to talk with one of the pilots and hes live now at Oakland Airport with more on saint charles. Hey there. Yes. So right now the blue and their c one, 30, a big fat albert their park here at the airport at the moment. But i was told they might start getting the aircraft ready to take off and do some est flights over the bay area starting at noon. So anytime now, they might be taking off. Earlier today we got a chance to get up close. Look at the planes. Talk to some pilots is going to take a look at some video here now. This is the 76 season of the blue angels. This is the particular aircraft, which is an f 18. Super its the 41st air show in San Francisco and they are saying that, you know, if youve seen the show before, you might be used to them, the pilot we talked to today, hes promising that theres some new things are going to try this year. For folks hes seen the show before, which will see a little new twist on some of the Allman Everson maybe a couple new, a new maneuvers and of themself a both a c one 30s. Well, as the f eighteens, you know, we have a chance to come out here every fleet week into a prison. Our service over 100,000 active duty and reservists and civilian support personnel were were really honored and take great pride to be able do that over over the bait. All right. Now the fog is pulled back. We are expecting the blue angels will fly this afternoon. Theyre going to do big circles to kind of a site survey and then the going to do some practice maneuvers, probably between 3 and 5 oclock this afternoon. Thats very flexible depending on what theyre doing that to do some briefings as well. And then, of course, the big air is tomorrow friday, saturday and sunday. The airshow usually starts around noon. The blue angels generally fly around 3 oclock. Mort, more or less. So its me im a big couple of days around the bay area with fleet lee fleet week kicking it into high gear. But for now in oakland, charles, clifford kron, 4 news and sounds like its going to be a great show. Thanks so much, charles, for that live report. And speaking of Little Angels in the friendly blue skies up above. Lets talk a bit about our forecast as you take a live look outside at the Golden Gate Bridge where the angels will be flying tomorrow where at least from this perspective, the skies are looking quite so blue, perhaps maybe of a lot of fog out there are going to have. Im meteorologist kyla grogan clarify for us. Hey, yeah, i can help you out. So its another one of those just the coast in the bridge kind days like we had yesterday or you can see weve got plenty of blue skies as we take a live look here. At the Transamerica Pyramid and even start to see what looks like. Somebody has been flying out of its blue angels yet. But its getting pretty cool to see all of that happened over the next few days. 57 degrees right now in San Francisco, even saying a little cool today. So far, oakland, 60 to 72 in san jose right now are at 80 in livermore. Concord, 78 in santa rosa coming in at 73 degrees. Nice and calm wind. Its going to be between about 5. 10 miles per hour. Start to get a little bit of a westerly flow today. That will pick up as we get to the afternoon, a little bit of haze that is out there as we take a look from the east bay. But a pretty good looking day here. We did start off with some clouds and a little bit of fog out there. Were going to get some nice sunshine. So today were going to call it mostly sunny again, i mentioned kind of minimal wind out there. If youre going to see some of the ship tours today there from 10 00am til 04 00pm in the upper 60s. Were going to top out today in San Francisco about 71 degrees. So nice day out there today. If you are inland, the numbers are going to be higher just like they were yesterday. So thats where well kind of find some of the heat today in spots like cancun, antioch, up at 89 degrees, 90 in morgan hill. And you can see up in santa rosa expecting that. 84 86 in nevado but out of Half Moon Bay, much cooler where they were likely not be kicking the clouds sitting at 64 degrees the high today. So a live look again at Golden Gate Bridge. Not to say that were all seeing sunshine, but there is an awful lot of it out there on the back of your extended forecast in just a bit. Stephanie, back to you. Thanks very much, kyra. Happening today, First Lady Jill Biden will visit San Francisco. Shes making stops around the country to promote Cancer Awareness for a campaign called cancer moonshot. October is Cancer Awareness month. The first ladys visit will start at ucsf cancer center. And after that, shes scheduled to speak at a Democratic Committee womens lunch and conference at around noon. So she should be there just around this time. Coming up on the kron, 4 news at noon, a former security chief for uber is found guilty of a data breach coverup. We explain. Plus, a dozen Alameda County sheriffs deputies heading back to work despite failing psych evaluations that show there apparently unfit for duty. What the department is planning to put them back in uniform. And it was a storybook ending to the career of one of the bay areas favorite players. How this his final chapter at the coliseum next. I am robert strickler. Ive been involved in communications in the media for 45 years. Ive been taking prevagen on a regular basis for at least eight years. For me, the greatest benefit over the years has been that prevagen seems to help me recall things and also think more clearly. And i enthusiastically recommend prevagen. It has helped me an awful lot. Prevagen. Healthier brain. Better life. It has helped me an awful lot. Alameda county sheriffs deputies are back on the job. After retaking their psych evaluations. This comes after the Sheriffs Department deemed 47 deputies psychologically unfit for duty. Now Community Advocates are demanding the Sheriffs Office keep those deputies off the force. Kron fours amanda hari explains. Community advocates in people who have been negatively affected by the Alameda County Sheriffs Office tried to make sure the heres their concerns. They gathered outside the Sheriffs Office wednesday morning loudly chanting and using a bullhorn to call on sheriff greg ahern not to rehire. 47 deputies who are stripped of their arresting powers and firearms. Late last month, it was after an audit determined they failed their psychological evaluation before they were hired. I looked into that fight like integrity, permit racial bias, basic things. And its unconscionable. Grant it is absolutely horrific. Know about this. Turned a blind eye. The group consisted of people from the Ella Baker Center for human rights, the urban Peace Movement and the Anti Police Terror project. Among others. They wrote a letter of demands to sheriff or we need to know name so we can know. Those officers are resting in testifying against him, putting in that jail. And so we can know whether they were the people who suffocated. People to death in santa rita jail. What years talk ties and spit hoods and other uses of force that are unconscionable to begin with, but certainly should not be used by people who dont have the authority or training over capacity. Item in addition to publicly releasing the deputies names, they want investigation into each of them. All cases resulting from their work to be dismissed for the sheriff to apologize and to audit all staff and has already been of the map about how many families. That the sheriffs deputies have effect. How many scandals . This particular administration has been a part of and tried to cover up. It sounds to me like this for me. A larger investigation. The protesters tried to hand deliver the letter to share earn b t were kept in the lobby. Amanda hari kron, 4 news. The sun valley mall in concord was evacuated yesterday after a man entered a store with a gun. Police say the man went into a Jewelry Store just around 03 00pm saying he had a firearm and that he threatened to shoot anyone who came near him. The mall shut down for 2 hours while officers investigated the scene. The incident happened a week after a Nordstrom Rack near the mall was evacuated because of a standoff. All right. Talk a bit about our forecast now as we take a live look outside at mount tam looking into the San Francisco skyline. One of my favorite views from our cameras and top prop for meteorologist kyla grogan. Here shes a shes got more on what the weather situation is like kyla. From one of my cameras behind me, those going a little crazy. Blue skies fortunately see that. Yeah, the full screen isnt really with us, but its one of show air quality are going to see in the east and the south bay today. A little bit of moderate air today. Nothing too bad. The of the air quality index right in between 0 and 50 is considered good. And were talking about just 51 to 52 today. So not bad for use in south bay, but just to let you know, theres a little haze out there. High pressure is building in. And of course, thats been happening over the last 24 hours or so. Were going to see that continue towards the weekend. And thats why were going to stay warm inland, least through saturday that we see those temperatures in the upper 80s and even a few low 90s out their inner east bay and inner north. A little bit of that, too. So here is one of the spots that will not be getting to our were at Half Moon Bay where you can see the clouds have definitely been hanging on. So that ocean influence is certainly going to keep those of you at the coast. A little bit cooler these next few days. And you wont really feel that warm up. We could get a few breaks in those clouds today. But i think for the most part, theyre going to stick around currently right now about 60 to 3 degrees in palo alto. Just 54 at Half Moon Bay. Were just looking 64 in San Francisco, but notice concord already up to 78 degrees. 84 in saint helene, a word about 73 in santa rosa. And if you look outside beautiful blue skies as we take a look here, so today, mostly sunny skies unless youre at the coast, were going to be a little warm inland. As i mentioned, clouds increasing tonight, a bit gusty as we get later into the afternoon with some westerly wind. If you are coast or bayside and then a pattern change coming our way as we head towards the weekend. Were going to start to see a little bit cooling in the latter part of the weekend. And then much more of that as we head into next week. But today about where we should be in San Francisco, looking after 71 degrees. 74 in oakland and notice as we get inland spots like san jose livermore, concord, santa rosa getting up into those 80s. Well above where we should be this time of year. So in some spots like concord, you know, should be about 82 were looking for about 89, but we will see those clouds hang out at the coast and just to show you future cast, we get to 5 oclock tonight starting to see those move back in. So certainly going to see some of that patchy fog as we go over the next 24 hours. Get into tomorrow morning and then well start to get some clearing as we get into the afternoon. A look at your sunday forecast really quickly shows you that that pattern does start to break down as we get to next week and notice that cooling will be looking at inland valley, a 20 degree drop between now and when we get into say next tuesday and wednesday. But for the weekend looking good. Weve got the blue angels in town. I think well have some great skies to fly and stefani. Back to you. Yeah. Great conditions for the air show. Thanks so much, kyra. On the last day of baseballs regular season, there was a little magic in oakland, veteran catcher Stephen Stephen vogt plays his last game after a 10 year career and it was one hell never forget. Thats just the sweetest thing. His 3 kids got to announce their dad before his first atbat against the angels. They also got to threw out the first pitch. Look at thats thats so much fun. But the highlight of the day happen in votes. Final atbat. What a moment votes slams a home run to right field off angels reliever. Zack weiss said it was pandemonium at this the 37 yearold not highs in his excitement. You can see there as he circled the bases and touched home home plate. Hes and theyll be career came to a close. Around the bases, i just. Got every emotion out just i was. Are you kidding so happy. So elated. I just was like, let your 2 yearold boy just come out. But but the little kid and you used to play on this front yard and pretend to be will clark. But let that come out. And i didnt. And i just enjoyed every second of it. Feel very, very honored. Loved. I feel very loved today it feels good. Thats very special in a decade long, Major League Career stephen vogt has was a 2 time allstar and won a world series last year with the atlanta braves. Coming up next here at noon, more relief checks for californians now less than 24 hours away. How you can make sure you qualify for those payments. Plus, gas prices approaching record highs here in the bay area. What experts say is fueling those high prices at the pump. And students are back in class on oaklands kings is state campus one week after a school mass shooting. Whats being done to prevent Something Like this from happening again, oakland mayor libby schaff joins us live to discuss after the break. More students are back in school today in east oakland after 6 people were shot on campus one week ago. That shooting happened on the kings state campus, which houses a cluster of schools, including Rudsdale High School Police Release Surveillance Video showing 2 shooters entering that school. Officers say the shooters fired at least 30 rounds and both are still at large. They take students return to campus yesterday. 4 excuse me, socalled Community Building the Oakland Police Department Shared photos of officers greeting students and School Leaders are now talking about whether they need armed guards on campus. We also know that School Leaders created a donation page. And for those who want to support students, families and staff of those affected, you can find a link to the donation page on our website. Kron 4 dot com and joining us live now to talk about this and all the big headlines coming out of oakland today is oakland mayor libby schaff. Thanks so much for joining us. Thank you for having me. So a quick check in with you. You know, how are you feeling now . You can track the covid late september. So first of all, we just want to ask how youre doing. Thank you. You know, it was rough. And, you know, it took down almost our whole family, but i am back at work, i would say are 90 . I do have a little bit of that lingering fatigue that that you hear everybody talk but i am absolutely 1000 for the people of oakland. Right now. We are glad to hear that. And this morning you announced a new 5 Million Dollar investment from the state to help oakland teachers find affordable housing. Can you tell us a bit more about that and how teachers can apply . Church a couple years ago we launched trio teachers rooted in oakland to address not only the representation gap, but the affordability that teachers are struggling with that in many ways are driving the Teacher Shortage here in the bay area. And what it means is that we basically subsidize the housing costs, part teacher residents that are giving their masters are giving their masters degree was student teachin our Public Schools. What was great is this last budget from the state of california included 5 Million Dollars to continue this incredibly successful demonstration project. Port than that. Today we announce very innovative expansion that actually can potentially reach hall 2000 Oakland Public School teachers. And thats real plus. Its an online platform. A virtual marketplace that matches Public School teachers with landlords that are willing to discount their rent just to help out in this moment where we know our teachers are underpaid but certainly not undervalued. All right. Very in interest of time. Were going to turn to a topic thats also very top of mind for a lot of people. We were just talking about this, the shooting at the kings, the states campus of we know that the schools are back open this week. Have you had a chance to speak with the families affected by this . You know, ive talked to the school our sympathy goes out, not just the people directly impacted, but this tom entitles the whole community and we are busily trying to wrap our arms around these School Communities and ensure that they feel loved and supported and we can help begin to restore a sense of safety. Now our Oakland Police department has responded very visibly with increased hot spot deployments. I want to appreciate our officers who have canceled their days off that are working extended shifts to ensure that there is visible presence, particularly in the locations that we think are most vulnerable to potential retaliatory violence. Were also staffing up some areas that have long needed more officers. Thanks to our successful acadeies. Were at 8 new officers in investigation so that we can hold these people accountable as well as bringing back the Traffic Division to stop the reckless driving. But also they play a big role in taking illegal guns off our streets. Now, the city of oakland had its 100 and first homicide victim just this week. And youve called for more federal regulation of firearms. We know that attorney general rob bonta was in the east bay this past week or rather this week talking about his new office of gun violence prevention. What kind of conversations have you had with his office about addressing the issue of gun violence . Well, attorney general bonta has just been a great leader on this issue for a long time. And one thing that we are talking with him about it better utilizing a restraining order or kind of take away border. And thats something that has been very successful in san diego that oakland has not adequately deployed. We also are continuing to be grateful and wants to speed up the installment of security cameras on our freeways. And that is something that was in the governors budget that the attorney general support it. But i know we both agree that best of all, we want to stop violence before it happens in the first place. And im so thankful to a huge grant from the state of california that is going to our department of violence prevention and its going to expand not only family based behavior modification work, but also work in our schools, which could not be more timely. Okay. And before we let you go here we are hearing the city and the as are getting pretty close to a deal on the Howard Terminal project. Is that true . It the negotiations have been very active, very positive. We dont know if this will actually end up coming for a final vote this year. It is really important. We get this right and that the deal not only safeguards, oaklands longterm fiscal health, but also delivers all the Community Benefits that we know this project can and should, including those parks, those good jobs and that transitoriented housing that the bay area so desperately needs. Alright, oakland, mayor libby schaff, thank you so much for your time this afternoon. We hope you have a fast and full recovery soon. Thank you so much. All right. As we talk about the city of oakland, lets take a live look outside at the bay bridge coming from the city into San Francisco. Checking in with on our forecast as well on how conditions are looking like kyla. Yeah, were ready to get for a very nice day. I did want to start 70 with the Drought Monitor because that was released this week. Every thursday we get the new one. No real surprises here. You can still see exceptional drought in the center. Part of california and here in the bay. We are in what is considered severe drought. So this is the time of year when starting to look out for that storm that could kind of start to change things, right . They would let us know that our pattern is going to be changing live. Look right now and you can certainly no rain in the forecast today, but certainly a few clouds out there at the coast, keeping us cool. And as we zoom out, you really have to go to the desert southwest, a fine, any rain right at this point. So right now, nothing major in our forecast. However, this is the month that we do keep an eye out for that kind of big soaking rain hopefully will come in by the end of the month. Here we are taking a live look outside a little hazy out there today. Were getting a little bit reduced air quality in our east bay and south bay today. 57 degrees right now in San Francisco. 62 in oakland, but were warming up inland as expected. You can see some 80s there in antioch, in livermore, 72 in san jose. Napa. City about 69 degrees. A nice day today. If youre heading out to see the ship tours for fleet week, pretty cool. Theyve got that going on until 4 oclock today. Well see some upper 60s topping out today in San Francisco at about 71 degrees. But as we head towards the weekend, notice were going to stay warm as you get to friday and saturday. And then by sunday we start to see the sunshine stick around. But the temperatures start to break down. Thats going to be the beginning of a bit of a pattern change. Thats coming our way as we get into next week and what that could mean for us, of course, is that we could start to see the possibility of a little offshore wind and even the potential as we get further into the love that i think will necessarily get it. Next week, Southern California looks like theyll get a little rain possibly next week. But for us, its just be those clouds like you see right now hanging out at the shore here at Half Moon Bay. Ill be back in a little bit. Extended forecast. Stephanie, back to you. All right. Thanks very much. New at noon ubers former security chief has been found guilty in federal court of covering up a massive data breach at the company. A jury convicted joe sullivan of one count of obstructing justice and one count of concealing a felony. Uber was investigated back in 2016 about a hack that took place 2 years earlier. And during that investigation, the company was hacked again. Data from 57 million riders and 600,000 drivers was stolen. Sullivan did not notify the ftc of that second data breach leading to criminal charges and his conviction. A judge still has to decide when he will be sentenced. And after several delays due to the pandemic, we now have an official count of Alameda Countys Homeless Population as kron 4 Sarah Stinson explains the number has risen significantly over the past 3 years. Account of the homeless in Alameda County from this year shows a 22 spike since before the pandemic since 2019. And theres a lot of data that came out this week. But for people who live here, this is stuff they see every single day. What you do see our families living out there in their cars. This data was just released from the point in time report where officials go out and survey to find out how many people are homeless and it showed nearly 10,000 people in Alameda County are homeless. This is usually reported every 2 years, but it was delayed due to the pandemic. The communitybased organization, everyone home releases these reports, the acting executive director says there are many economic factors that drive homelessness, including the fact that a resident must make 44 an hour to afford a 2 bedroom apartment in Alameda County. And thats 3 times minimum wage. Tim damron has lived in alameda for 7 years. Hes even volunteered to help the homeless and this is what hes seen. Ive seen people washing in the bay of seeing people taking their infants to watch their infant in the bay. People sleeping in their cars to cross the bridge to hope. And much worse. Theres thousands of people sleeping and dismembered vehicles. More than half Alameda Countys Homeless Population is in oakland rising 24 . Oakland mayor libby schaff says theyve made progress and housing the homeless. In fact, the number of sheltered Homeless People doubled in the last 3 years. She says most likely due to more money from the state and federal governments and the challenge for the city council is to not only hire qualified Police Officers but have sworn volunteers that can manage this crisis because it is a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions. Checking in with tyler broken now with more on our forecast cuyler, how long is that fall going to be sticking around for . You know, if youre at the coast, its probably not going its one of those days. Were going to get a little bit of a mix, but certainly a lot of sunshine out there to want to start off, though, with futurecast just to talk about, were talking about, you know, we look out for rain this time of year, but weve got High Pressure off the coast generally shoots everything right over the top of us. You can see that as we head through the weekend and take you into sunday night, staying dry next week. I mentioned its going to be a bit of a pattern change. So taking into tuesday here and you start to see some rain trying to pop up kind of the desert southwest, potentially into Southern California midweek doesnt look like anything is, you know, slated to come our way. But its just interesting to start to see those patterns change up a little bit here. The blue skies i was talking about as we take a look at the Transamerica Pyramid. A really nice out there. Mostly sunny skies today, unless youre out at the coast, a little bit warm inland, certainly above average. Tonight, those clouds will increase as we do start to see some of them really roll back and gusty at the coast in bayside as well. And then looking ahead, that pattern change of talking about a little late weekend cooling and then things changing up a bit next week where we start to see places that are looking out for, you know, upper 80s, low 90s, getting into the 70s right now. Beautiful in los angeles. 76 degrees moderate about 60 in the 80s as you go sacramento and here in the bay. A little cool out of the coast. 55 in Half Moon Bay, you can see 58 in San Francisco, but those 80s certainly are there inland. No doubt about it. Heres that cloud cover there. Talking about, you know, its not too far away. Its kind of hanging out there just waiting for a chance to return. But High Pressure is going to keep it at bay as we get into the next couple of days, particularly inland. We start to see that warm up. As i mentioned through saturday. So today high temperatures are going to be a little bit above average for most if youre inland, if youre around the bay, its about where we should be this time of year. So 71 in San Francisco, you see those upper 80s in antioch. 85 in santa rosa and 82 in san jose. There is that consistent forecast right through the weekend and then we head into sunday things start to cool down and theres a pattern change. I mentioned potentially were looking out for possibility of offshore wind but not locked in on that yet. Well be keeping an eye on it. Back to you. Thanks very much.
