Drivers literally in the thick of things, just a reminder that if youre in a dust storm and visibility is this bad, you really want to pull over, keep your foot off the brake, and just wait it out. And a. D. O. T. In fact says when our phones, they are trying to give us a headsup to give us time to get to somewhere safe. Once the dust cleared, down came the rain in several parts of the valley. Here was video in chandler. Pretty much the same across many parts of the southeast valley today. Thats where we sent marcy jones tonight, where it was raining pretty heavy out in tempe. This evening really caused some problems with the dust coming in. Its also where marcy joins us live from. Hey, marcy. Reporter thats right, guys. Hi. Things are back up and running near at phoenix sky harbor. You can see the pickup line is pretty long right now, thats because those flights are coming in right now but everything is running smoothly. But just for a little while, they had to briefly suspend operations tonight due to that dust storm. Now that the weather has rolled out, this place is running like a well oiled machine. The National Weather service expired the dust warning for the greater phoenix area just about two hours ago, but at one point during the height of it visibility was reduced to under a quarter of a mile. That dust storm blanketed several phoenix and east valley cities of tempe, chandler, mesa, gilbert and apache junction. We are told by folks from the airport that from 6 08 to 6 23 no flights were coming in or out getting diverted to las vegas or tuscon. We spoke to one man waiting for his traveling wife that he has been waiting here for three hours. She was supposed to land at 5 02 from charlotte, but got diverted by the dust storm in tuscon, and she just landed, finally. Thats dedication right there. And a little bit earlier, like you guys said, we went out to tempe, some parts of mesa. It was coming dogs but the rain wasnt really the issue here at sky harbor. It was really that blanket of dust. And like you said, if you are on the roads ever again during a dust storm, just find a safe place, pull over, and wait it out. Marcy jones, fox 10 news. We sort of get used to these dust storms living here and the images that we see. Its still incredible to look at. But this is a trending thing on social media right now. People are talking about this all over the country. National news. They are thinking, well, its some people call it biblical. It is an impressive, impressive sight, thats for sure. Absolutely. Im kicking my feet up now, guys, earlier it was a bit of a rush, earlier all of the team working together to get the information out to you. Really it was an epic picture earlier, that tall, thick wall of dust making its way across the valley. It started a little bit of activity s us, and then we saw that massive dust moving through the valley. Tonight things are much quieter as we have made our way into the 8 00, 9 00hour. Take a look at southern arizona. It is as quiet as can be. If we take a look farther back in time on our radar loop here, very different picture if you look back to 4 00, 5 00, 6 00, when we saw the very strong storm cells firing, making their way into casa grande and the cell moving along loop 202, the 101. Otherwise the majority of the activity today was through parts of show low and white river. Things have quieted down significantly along 40, winslow teeing sooeg a few showers tonight, flagstaff as well. We are still seeing activity through parts of mohave county. All in all, much quieter picture than what we saw during the big wall of dust as it was moving through. Quick look at the wind speeds earlier, very gusty winds as we saw some of the popping, 40 in casa grande, close to 35 at sky harbor, dusty conditions in addition to the wind not a good recipe for people trying to make their way on the roads. Changes to the longterm forecast, ill talk to you about that a little bit later on in the show. Developing story tonight, a Birthday Celebration at a glendale strip club turns tragic when a popular valley rapper is shot and killed right outside the club. Now police are asking for marcy jones has that story. A young life ended too soon. Mr. Mcdonald had been shot, and he was deceased in some landscaping near the knights inn. According to police, Deshaun Mcdonald was celebrating his 26th birthday at jaguars club when just before midnight heading up and stepped outside. At that point, his friends didnt understand, didnt know why he was the celebration continued. At the same time, somewhere in there, the patrons reported hearing gunshots in the parking lot. Thats when he was found dead, friends also know him as the local rap artist d mac deluxx. One person says i have known him for ten years. All he wanted to do was make music and make other people happy. Now police are asking for the publics help in solving this cell phone footage, most likely of the incident either before it occurred or after it occurred that will lend some evidence and some credence into what we are looking into, so we can help identify the zpts suspect or suspects and get them off the streets. This happened at the sevens lounge nightclub, over by 80th avenue and glendale. 45yearold Lamarr Thomas was taken to the hospil later died, say glendale police. They have yet to release any information on a possible suspect. No word yet on what led up to this shooting. If you know anything about this case, please Call Glendale Police a scary situation for one driver after someone shot at his truck while he was driving along the i10 last night. D. P. S. Says it happened at 7 00 last night. The man heading westbound on i10 when another driver rolled down a passenger side window, the man says the driver started you can see investigators and d. P. S. Police on the scene after all of this. He was able to pull off at 7th and mcdowell to get help. He told police that the shooter was a black female driving a white kia. A 41yearold man is rescued off a mountain this afternoon after somebody heard him calling for help. Fire Officials Say the guy was free climbing and fell into a crevice. He was alone and he didnt have a cell phone. The hiker was stuck for hours, calling out before someone nearby finally heard him. Fire crews sent a basket stretcher down to the man in whats called a steep angle rescue. Fire crews climbed to the top of the mountain and repelled down to the stranded hiker. We have crews at the bottom. We also have myself and the patient, one of our concerns coming down with the type of terrain is to make sure that so kind of watching my footing as i am coming down. I also have to make sure to keep myself patient and the crews below me just watching out for those rocks. Fire crews say the man was dehydrated. They got him some iv fluids and took him to the nearest hospital. Arizona and nevada officials are facing another obstacle in carrying out the death penalty. The two states have executions that are on hold because the drugs used for the xeks expired and they havent been able to get any of the new drugs for the executions. The availability of execution drugs has become an issue in the country. Most pharmaceutical agencies are refusing to sell their products to prison agencies to be used for executions. He says, quote, immature behavior got him and his teammates into that mess during the final days of the olympics. In a Television Interview this morning, the 12time swimming medallist apologized to the people of brazil for his made up story about being robbed in Rio De Janeiro by uniformed men. Lochte originally said he and up by armed robbers. Then the truth came to light. Police say lochte and his friends vandalized a bathroom after night of partying. Armed guards confronted them and asked them to pay for the damage. I ripped a poster off the wall in the gas station, and coming out the security guards had a gun. We got we stepped out of the taxi cab. The guns were pointed at us, and one of the guys, the translator guys or someone came from the gas station to help out, saying that you have to pay money. So we had to give them the money. So a gun was pointed at us, we had to give them money. So you can either call that a robbery, you can call that extortion, or you can just say we had to pay the money for the damage of that poster. More action will be taken over this incident. Blackmun gave no details but made clear the incident has made him frustrated. The National Institutes of health says the zika virus could hang around the United States for a year or two. An expert says other gulf states, besides florida, are most vulnerable to the spread of the disease. Mosquito it out of miamidade county, the first area where mosquitoes have been transmitting zika. Now they have launched a bus system to help people get around whose cars were damaged in the floods. Great idea. This is something you never think of. A louisiana official says two Disaster Recovery centers have opened, and more will open soon. Officials say more than 30 million in federal Housing Assistance has been approved for people in louisiana. About 3,200 people are still and a lot of help is on the way for People Living in the flood ravaged communities. So far, 31 arizona red cross volunteers are there helping out. Fox 10s Courtney Griffin has more. Parts of louisiana covered in water. In lafayette, American Red Cross shelters scatter the area, providing flood victims a safe and clean place to stay, food, hydration, and emotional support. Crystal abbott, a volunteer from spoke with us via telephone. We watched two people right here in lafayette down the street from our headquarters walking across in waistdeep water to their house. It is hard but we are here to put a smile on their face, to give them cleanup kits if they can get back into their house, and if they need to just talk. A client case supervisor from ariz before her flight. We have got a lot of people who are homeless, their homes washed away or their homes not livable. We have got a lot of people looking for a place to stay. Some are losing jobs because their unemployment has been flooded out. There are just a lot of people hurting right now. About 102,000 people have registered for federal assistance, and that number could go up. Red cross volunteers say the damage has been rated as one of the peoples faces when they come, when they see you coming in and, you know, theyre grateful for just a little bit, you know, and its its really heartwarming to be ale to help people when they are suffering the way these folks are. Tonight things have calmed down a little bit, we are about 90 degrees right now at sky harbor, the winds relaxed quite a bit compared to some spots around the state earlier. Maximum gusts as you saw for sky harbor in the thirties, no wonder that we saw a lot of action out there this evening. An area of low pressure off the into our neck of the woods, drier air, inflow, not as much moisture or instability in the forecast. Our chances of seeing rain in tomorrow pretty minimal. We could see storms firing into the higher elevation, pockets of heavy rain, potentially some hail. The valley though looks like its going to be pretty quiet as we make our way into 2 30 in the afternoon tuesday. Scattered activity well to the north of the valley, and then by wednesday we really start to see conditions get much dew points going to drop significantly. 65 in prescott, 75 kingman, 72 for globe at this hour, 68 degrees for st. Johns, and 67 degrees for douglas. Across the valley, numbers in 84 in gateway, 90 in goodyear, 86 for wickenburg, 85 for cave creek and 87 degrees for fountain hills. The dew points are still pretty high in southern arizona, relatively speaking, 60s there, we start to see those numbers decrease. State, certainly into northern arizona, those numbers in the forties and fifties. Today, nice cool one, 101 what we hit this afternoon, normal temperature for today 104 degrees, so three degrees cooler than the norm. Back in 07, the numbers were 110. Nationally, we are continuing to see the south just soaked by all of this rain. Houston actually we saw a lot of rain, nine inches of rain there so additional rainfall expected along these gulf coast states. They are going to get a little bit a break though as you get into tonight and tomorrow. Well continue to see moisture up through the mid atlantic coastline through new england, and this will result in relief for folks in that part of the country, well see 81 in lake havasu, 53 for show low, cooling down to 60s for sedona, 50 for the grand canyon, and nogales dropping down to about 62. Tomorrow even though its not there, seasonal temperatures if not slightly below, so 100 expected for lake havasu, close to that for bullhead city, 104 for yuma, in the 70s for show low, close to 80 for payson, same for sedona, window rock at about 77 degrees. We are keeping a slight chance of activity in the forecast for overnight, although as we start to see the sunset, thats often where we see the most instability. Obviously that section of the day is out the door, so tonight well see temperatures cooling to the day 80s into tomorrow about 100 degrees, which is about the seasonal temperature, if not slightly cooler, which we all love to hear, minimal activity expected in the forecast the next few days. We could of course see those outflow winds, causing some thunderstorm activity, as well as some blowing dust, just like we did earlier, but really wednesday thursday guys we start to dry out, and it looks like well see some cooler temperatures too. That entire stretch doesnt get warmer until the end of the ten days. Pretty pleasant, calm weather. During 5 00, 6 00. We like to hear pleasant, thats a nice change. Pleasant forecast. It should be a trigger for, okay, what should we do next. Lawyers for baltimores top prosecutors say lawsuits filed against her by five of the freddie gray are without merit and should be dismissed. Marilyn mosby filed charges against six officers in grays death but did not get any convictions. Gray died after riding in the back of a police van. Her lawyers argued she cant be sues for actions taken as a prosecutor. Themselves noted that a court cmmissioner, a grand jury and the judge found probablecause to file charges. Chaos at a mall in michigan sends shoppers panic when a robbery is remain for gunfire. Officers directing cars away here from the mall, its called 12 oaks mall, just outside of detroit, where a robbery at a Jewelry Store led some shoppers to believe there was a shooting in the mall. Police say the sound of breaking glass was mistaken for gunfire, and thats what sent the shoppers running for cover. It was so scary, since all of the workers were like theres gunshots, theres gunshots, that and then they came back in and said it was just a sledgehammer, so i was a little more relaxed. And police say the two robbers stole a couple of watches from the Jewelry Store, and then they escaped in that panic. A house party in connecticut turns violent when two men ambushed it, shooting 13 people. Police think these two men are actually next door neighbors. They say they hid in some bushes before firing into the backyard and injuring 13 pty they say several of the people were shot in the face and many are in the hospital in critical condition. Police havent yet said what the motivation would be behind the shootings, but they havent made any arrests yet. Well, it has been a rough weekend for the notre dame football team. A total of six Football Players were arrested in two separate incidents in several counties in indiana. One of the players was arrested after allegedly attacking a police officer. The other five players arrested when they were pulled over for a and thats when police found marijuana and a loaded gun in the car. Notre dame starts their football season in two weeks.
