was treated and released at a local hospital after the incident. e man police say puld the mothershed, also shot himself during the struggle with moritz. ktiv's michelle from police. as for mothershed...p olice aren't releasing his condition at this time. >> mothershed is in police custody at sioux city's mercy dical center. he's charged with two counts of attempted murder and five counts of robbery in the first degree. but, he also faces a charge of home invasion. that follows an incident, inside a home in the 26- hundred block of south alice street, in morningside, back on december 7th. police believe mothershehewas one of three men that broke into the home looking for drugs and money. a 19-year-old inside the home was beaten with a crowbar. his mother was held at gunpoint. 21-year-old austin cummings, of sioux city, is also charged in the incident. police have arrested seven other people in connection with robberies in sioux city over the last two weeks. they are 19-year-old justin seaberry, 18-year-old jordyn delel, 16-year-old austst bulizak, 16-yeaold jamaal ferguson, 17-year-old macayla knight, and a 15-year-old who has not been charged. court documents say the robberies began on january 29th when bulizak, justin ferguson and jamaal ferguson went armed to a home at 33-21 pierce street. on february 2nd, documents say bulizak, justin ferguson, and seaberry wentnto a resident at "c college couou" armed with the intent to rob the resident. on february 5th, jamaal ferguson, justin ferguson, seaberry and bulizak went to a home at 45-38 polk street where they planned to break in and steal a gun, according to bulizak's affidavit. on february 6th, police say jamaal ferguson, knight, seaberry and bulizak went to 2940 park avenue, building 19, to rob a person of money and personal propertrt investigators say they held the victim on the ground at gunpoint and took his wallet, i-d card and a nebraska man, who's charged in iowa with killing his wife, with stand trial in september. 28-year-old rogelio morales, of hubbard, nebraska, will go to trial for first-degree murder on september 20th. the trial was originally scheduled for march 15th, but his attorney sought an extension to allow more time to investigate the case and have morales evaluated. morales is accused of killing 21-year-old margarita morales, of south sioux city, on april 19th. court documents say morales told investigators a fight broke out when his wife told him she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him. rogelio morales told police he wrapped his hands around her neck, and his next memory was his wife not breathing. rescue workers continued to try locate missing persons in the rubble of an earthquake- hit apartment blococin tainan, several hours after its collapse. at least four people were rescued on monday from the 17-story apartment building. more than 100 people are believed to still be under the debris. rescue more than 170 people from the folded building using information about the building layout and the possible location of those trtrped. a german news agency reported that two trains crashed head-on in the south of ththcountry early today, leaving at least four people dead and 40 seriously injured. more than three hours after the ash, emergency services were still trying to reach people trapped in the wreckage. t-v footage showed emergency helicopters lined up in an area near the crash scene waiting to transport the most severely injured to hospitals. a spokesman for german federal police in bavaria said that the region was very inaccessible and making rescue efforts more difficult. more than two dozen people were injured when a charter bus flipped onto its side in madison, connecticut. officials say the bus was heading to the mohegan sun casino when it crashed on snow-covered interstate 95... which prompted police to shut down the highway. the highway was shut down for more than four hours as crews worked to clear the accident scene. initially... and 12 more sought medical care after going to a warming center. four of the injured are in critical condition. although the snow is melting, sioux city is still working on clean up after last week's big blizzard. ktiv's tommie clark spoke with police officers who have been impounding vehicles that haven't moved since the last flake of snow fell. moved, were impounded. tow truck. "we try to make contact with the owner. we run the plate and find out what's the address and who's the owner. if we can't make contact with the owner, we tow the vehicle," said sioux city police officer, eddie thiphasouk. "you can tell which vehicles are going to be towed, first because of the mounds of snow still around them and second because of the bright orange police tag." and, as if there wasn't enough reason to try and get your car off the roads... "people whose cars got towed today it's not a simple matter for thth to just go to the towing company and get their car back," said sioux city police sgt. todd sassman. there's an impound fee with the police department and additional charges with meier towing totaling almost $200. chains clinking. and, tow truck operators feel the pains, too. "phase two with the splash pad will just be even more integration opportunities between kids in the neighborhood, the soccer league players and the miracle league players to be playing together, interacting and learning from one another out on the splash pad," said kevin negaard, sioux city miracle league. council last night, but councilwoman rhonda capron says the council supports the miracle league. "a great quality of life project for all of us," said sioux city councilwoman rhonda capron. "i just think sioux city is so lucky to have mark helping us do this." the miracle league also says they plan to build a handicap accessible miniature golf course. first lady michelle obama met with several students monday in honor of black history month. mrs. obama welcomed 51 students from washington d-c for a day-long dance workshop. the students worked with iconic african american choreographers. this year's "black history month" theme at the white house is "honoring the past while celebrating the present." the first lady told the students about her "middle class" upbringing and having to work hard in school. she also encouraged them to "ignore stereotypes" and work hard to achieve their dreams. a nebraska group is celebrating latino culture and history. the south sioux city public programs put on by "humanities nebraska", which is part of a nationwide initiative to present the history of latinos. it's called "celebrating 500 years of latinos in america". a group of siouxlanders gathered at the library last night to watch one part of the series. "we really hope to bring both latinos and non-latinos together to talk about history and culture, and to make everyone more aware of the significant role and impact of latinos in both the united states and in nebraska." said mary yager, associate director of humanities nebraska. the library will also host another new program called "your stories" on february 22nd at 6:30 p.m. the program will feature people talking about what brought them to the u-s. the broncos and panthers weren't the only ones battling it out in sunday night's super bowl. so were more than 60 advertisers who paid big money to vie for our attention during the game. mark barger reports on some out....for better or worse. won a million dollar prize for jacob chase. for drugs and money. a 19-year-old inside the home was beaten with a crowbar while his mother was held at gunpoint. 21-year-old austin cummings, of sioux city, is also charged in the incident. police have arrested seven other people in connection with the robberies police were investigating when officer moritz was shot. they are 19-year-old justin ferguson, 20- year-old robert seaberry, 16-year-old austin bulizak, 16-year-old jamaal ferguson, 17-year-old macayla knight, and a 15-year-old who has not been charged. court documents say the robberies began on january 29th when bulizak, justin ferguson and jamaal ferguson went armed to a home at 33-21 pierce street. on february 2nd, documents say bulizak, justin ferguson, and seaberry went to a resident at "c college court" armed with the intent to rob the resident. on friday, jamaal ferguson, justin ferguson, seaberry and bulizak went to a home at 45-38 polk street where they planned to break in and steal a gun, according to bulizak's affidavit. on saturday, police say jamaal ferguson, knight, seaberry and bulizak went to 2940 park avenue, building 19, to rob a person of money and personal property. investigators say they held the victim on the ground at gunpoint and took his wallet, i-d card and credit card. iowa with killing his wife, with stand trial in september. 28-year-old rogelio morales, of hubbard, nebraska, will go to trial for first-degree murder on september 20th. the trial was originally scheduled for march 15th, but his attorney sought an extension to allow more time to investigate the case and have morales evaluated. morales is accused of killing 21-year-old margarita morales of south sioux city on april 19th. court documents say morales told investigators a fight broke out when his wife told him she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him. rogelio morales told police he wrapped his hands around her neck, and his next memory was his wife not breathing. rescue workers continued to try and locate missing persons in the rubble of an earthquake- hit apartment block in tainan, taiwan several hours after its collapse. at least four people were rescued on monday from the 17-story apartment building. more than 100 people are believed to still be under the debris. rescue more than 170 people from the folded building using information about the building layout and the possible location of those trapped. a german news agency reported that two trains crashed head-on in the south of the country early today, leaving at least four people dead and 40 seriously injured. more than three hours after the crash, emergency services were still trying to reach people trapped in the wreckage. t-v footage showed emergency helicopters lined up in an area near the crash scene waiting to transport the most severely injured to hospitals. a spokesman for german federal police in bavaria said that the region was very inaccessible and made rescue efforts more difficult. more than two dozen people were injured when a charter bus flipped onto its side in madison, connecticut. officials say the bus was heading to the mohegan sun casino when it crashed on snow-covered interstate 95... which prompted police to shut down the highway. the highway was shut down for more than four hours as crews worked to clear the accident scene. officials say 22 were taken to the hospital medical care after going to a warming center. four of the injured are in critical condition. although the snow is melting, sioux city is still working on clean up after last week's big blizzard. ktiv's tommie clark spoke with police officers who spent their shifts impounding vehicles that haven't moved since the snow fell. with the owner, we tow the vehicle," said sioux city police officer, eddie thiphasouk. "you can tell which vehicles are going to be towed, first because of the mounds of snow still around them and second because of the bright orange police tag." and, as if there wasn't enough reason to try and get your car off the roads... "people whose cars got towed today it's not a simple matter for them to just go to the towing company and get their car back," said sioux city police sgt. todd sassman. there's an impound fee with the police department and additional charges with meier towing totaling almost $200. chains clinking. and, tow truck operators feel the pains, too. ((sot: donald kennedy / undecided voter)) "i don't have a clue. i don't even know what party i'm voting for yet." or willing to switch their vote at the last minute. they're expecting a huge turnoututhere. the secretaryyof state predicts more than half a million people. that's two-thirds of new hampshire voters. i'm tracie potts in new hampshire, now back to you. >> president barack obama releases his 2017 fiscal budget proposal today. this will be obama's final budget proposal as he prepares to leave officicnext winter. many believe this budget has little chance to be adopted as the president faces from the republican led house. the vote for a multi-million dollar bond issue for iowa lake community college will begin at 9:00 this morning. several counties in northwest decide the future of the 16-million dollars needed for community college improvements. for aist of the counties involved, just go to our website, ktiv dot com. the miracle league of sioux city looked to deliver a home run presentation to the sioux city city council. the organization built an inclusive baseball facility for people with disabilities in riverside park last year. and now leaders with the miracle league want to improve it. they plan to build a "splash pad" this summer, and the group would like the city to contribute financially. the splash pad would cost 197-thousand dollars. they've raised about 70- thousand for the project. the city council contributed more than 300-thousand dollars of the total 1 point 1 million raised for the first t ase of the park... which included the concession area, restrooms, playground and the baseball field. miracle league's board president says the sash pad will help "phase two with the splash pad will just be even more integration opportunities between kids in the neighborhood, the soccer league interacting and learning from one another out on the splash pad," said kevin negaaaa, sioux city miracle league. the city council didn't make a decision last night, but councilwoman rhonda capron says the council supports the miracle league. "a great quality of life project for all of us," said sioux city councilwoman rhonda capron. "i just think sioux city is so this." the mimicle league says they also plan to build a handicap accessible miniature golf course in the future. first lady michelle obama met with several students monday in month. mrs. obama welcomed 51 students from washington d-c for a day-long dance workshop. ththstudents worked withthconic choreographers. this year's "black history month" theme at the white house is "honoring the past while celebrating the present." the first lady told the students about her having to work hard in school. she also encouraged them to "ignore stereotypes" and work hard to achieve their dreams. a nebraska groro is celebrating latino culture and history. the south sioux city public library is oering a series of programs put on by "hanities nebraska", which is part of a nationwide initiative to present the history of latinos. it's called "celebrating 500 years of latinos in america". last night, the library showed one part of the series. ththbroncos and panthersrseren't the only ones battling it out in sunday night's super bowl. so were morehan 60 advertisers who paid big money to vie for our attention during the game. mark barger reports on some commercials that stood out....for better or worse. pressure that comes with the commercials' 5 million dollar pricetag. "sub-mageddon" with an incredible amount of accumulation inside... that now seems... enjoy all ououclassic footlongs time to run down the stories making headlines this tuesday morning in siouxland. sioux city policicrelease more details about the shooting that wounded an officer early sunday morning. police say officer ryan moritz was shot by 18- year old isaiah mothershed, who was handcuffed officers investigated reports of a robbery. police say mothershed pulled out a handgun that was hidden inside the couch and shot moritz. during the ensuing struggle, police say mothershed shot himself in his own thigh. he's now faces two counts of attempted murder and five counts of first degree robbery. sioux city officials have started towing snowbound cars. owners were given warnings last week, then police started issuing titiets on friday. on monday, tow trucks were brought in to get them off the streets and out of the way of snow plows. if your car is towed, it'll cost you almost two- hundred dollars to get it out of impound. at least 20 cars that had not been moved were towed on monday. leaders with the miracle league of sioux city wants to add a splash pad to the baseball facility they built for people with disabilities in riverside park. they're asking the city council to help fund the 197-thousand dollar project. the city contributed more than 300-thousand dollars of the total 1- point-million dollars raised for the first phase of the park. no decision was made last night on new funding for rhonda capron says the council supports the miracle league. she calls it a great quality of life project. a celebration of latino culture and history last night in south sioux city. this one in a series of programs put on by "humanities nebraska",",hich is part of a nationwide initiative to present the history of latinos. this one called "celebrating 500 years of latinos in america" took place at the public library. organizers say they hope to bring latinos and non-latinos together to talk about history and culture, and to make everyone more aware of the significant role of latinos in the united states and in nebraska. finally this morning, the votes are in. the columbus zoo's baby polar bear officially has a name. meet nora! the name was chosen in a public online vote, which attracted participants from 115 countieses nora is a combination of nanan and aurora, her parents' names.
