ground. this is a day after a deadly accident at a water park in kansas. the latest details in a moment. monster fire outside of los angeles sending t fleeing their homes. the wildfire growing, already scorching 6,000 acres. and drowsy driving is presenting a growing danger across america's highways. we have a startling new report that highlights just how many drivers are so sleepy their impairment is comparable to drunk driving. and how about this for a game face -- the intense stare-down going viral. michael phelps raising intimidation factor to the nth is loving every minute of another accident on an amusement park ride. >> at a county fair in tennessee about 40 miles from knoxville. three girls fell from a ferris wheel when one of the baskets flipped over. they fell 30 to 45 feet to the ground. >> i feel bad for the little ki they just screamed a little bit, and then they just hit the ground, just laying there. everybody was calling 9-1-1. a lot of people, and then they had the ambulance and helicopters come in. i don't know these little girls, but they was so little. i hate seeing something like that. >> such a terrifying scene for many of the witnesses there. two of the victims were flown by helicopter to the hospital. all three were reported alert, even answering questions. the oldest victim is 16 years >> firefighters rescued other riders and the accident is now under investigation. there are new developments this morning in the fatal water slide accident in kansas city. officials say caleb schwab died of a neck injury. >> it turns out the verruckt, the world's tallest water slide, was never inspected by the state of kansas because regulations only cover mechanized rides. still, the park, officials say they inspect the water slid we get more from alex perez. >> reporter: an eyewitness giving the first account of the horrific accident that killed 10-year-old caleb schwab. >> i basically heard a couple of loud booms. sounded like something hit the slide. i looked at my cousin and i said i think that's a body outside of the raft. >> reporter: he was in the schlitterbauhn water park in kansas city sunday afternoon riding in the front of the raft when the boy fell out. a registered nurse raced to help. >> as i get closer and put my hand on the slide, the lifeguard says, "there's nothing you can do." >> reporter: earlier in the day he rode the water slide with his cousin. she told him the velcro on one of the two seat belts came undone. >> her belt came undone. >> reporter: schwab was a freckled base baseball fanatic. the family saying since he was family. the ride called verruckt, the german word for insane. standing at 168-feet high, taller than the statue of liberty, and plummets 17 stories in seconds. riders reaching speeds of nearly 70 miles per hour. abc news was there when the ride opened two years ago. the slide requires a minimum height of 54 inches, and two to three riders must be in a raft. >> combined weight must be over 400 and 550 pounds. >> reporter: before the debut, early tests showing sandbag dummies flying off the slide. it was reworked. seat belts and safety nets were added. in a statement, park officials said an investigation is ongoing. the slide is set to remain closed indefinitely. the rest of the water park set to reopen on wednesday. alex perez, abc news, kansas city. >> national security officials saying they won't vote for trump citing a look of experience and self-control. among the most prominent names, former cia director michael hayden, and former secretaries of homeland security, tom ridge. trump fired back calling them the failed washington elites, saying they're the reason why the world is such a mess. -- another prominent republican won't be voting for trump. senator susan collins says he shows complete disregard for common decency. in a scathing op-ed in the "washington post," she listed a series of incidents she was troubled by. they include trump's comments about the judge's hispanic heritage and his feud with a gold star family. meanwhile, a new candidate has entered the race as a conservative alternative to donald trump. former cia officer, evan mcmullin says both trump and hillary clinton aren't fit to be president. and he called trump a fraud and a con man. mcmullin says he's ready to fight although he's missing the independent filing deadline in 27 states. delta airlines is warning flyers to expect cancelations and delays after a meltdown. delta flights around the world were grounded for several hours after an electrical failure knocked out computers. fare carrier, and the outage has affected thousands. the airline is now offering frustrated travelers cash and waivers. to california now and a monster wildfire that has 5,000 homes under evacuation orders. the pilot fire has scorched more than 6,000 acres in the san bernardino mountains. dry shrub and brush are fueling the flames. hundreds of firefighters are battling the flames on the ground and in the air. the cause of the fire is under investigation this morning. and residents along florida's gulf coast are likely to see more of this as the drenching rainstorm continue for a second day. there will be heavy thunderstorms from the florida panhandle down to tampa with spotty storms extending up into the carolinas and across to florida's atlantic coast. some communities may see as much as a foot of rain. the family of a muslim teen arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school last year is suing. teachers said it looked like a bomb. of bias against muslims. ahmed muhammad, then 14, was suspended for three days. the case made national headlines, and muhammad was even invited to the white house. still, the family says the incident forced them to leave the united states. school officials deny any wrong doing. to the olympics and what will be a big day. gymnastics and swimming. on monday there were 14 gold medals handed out, two of them to the united states. the u.s. in a tie with china. five gold medals. lead in the overall count now running six ahead of the chinese, and japan and russia tied for third with ten. for
