What happened was some People Living next door thought they found some old explosives next door and the homeowner had recently died. So the family was clearing the place out. Reporter the explosion sparked a onealarm fire crews quickly snuffed out and no one hurt in the blast. Now muni is back to normal but again 46th avenue right at judah still blocked off here. New this morning Milpitas Police are investigating the citys first homicide of the year. It happened around 10 30 last night at the executive inn hotel. Police found the victim in the parking lot of that hotel suffering from gunshot wounds. There was some kind of altercation but we are not sure who the players are or what the argument was about. Police have not made any arrests but are interviewing guests. A pedestrian was struck and killed. Just after 1 00 a. M. Police got a call about a man staggering on the eastbound lanes of keller avenue. A few hours later they got a call that the man was hit. The driver did stop and is cooperating with investigators. Bay Area Health Officials are identifying two more deaths from the h1n1. San mateo county reported its third flu death but gave no information about that death there. There have been a total of 17 deaths from the flu in the bay area. Meantime elm wood correctional facility in milpitas is limiting the movement of his inmates after three confirmed h1n1 flu cases there. There are also 11 more suspected cases. No visitors are being allowed into the effected areas expect for inmate attorneys. Inmates in the effected areas are required to stay in their housing area but they will be transported to court appearances. Inmate that has any flu like symptoms that wants a flu shot, we will give it to them. The Santa Clara County Sheriffs Department says they will reevaluate the situation friday morning to see if it will lift its restrictions. It is asking all visitors to call ahead of time. A fire that burned homes on an island in antioch. Three homes were destroyed and at least 40 acres burned. No one was hurt but four people did have to be evacuated. Neighbors fought those flames until firefighters arrived. This one pretty good until one of the neighbors had a big i dont know how many gallon propane tank. It is very rare for a red flag warning to be issued in the middle of january but firefighters say lack of rain has led to very dry brush and conditions we usually see in september and october. Ktvu has obtained Surveillance Video of a man setting fire in a neighborhood plagued by arsons. It shows a man setting fire to the front porch. And then he comes back three different times until that fire spreads. And then a suspect walking near one of the homes that catches fire. We lost our cat. They didnt get out. A plea hearing is scheduled in Alameda County for former junior golf coach accused of molesting three male students. Andrew was arrested last month. Police say the 31yearold livermore resident admitted he committed lewd acts on his students. He now faces more than 60 child molestation charges. Meantime David Douglas the man accused of kidnapping a seven yearold girl from her antioch home is due back in court today. This is videofrom his first appearance last week. Prosecutors say on january 3rd douglas followed the girl and her mother home from a walmart and then abducted the girl. They were found about four hours laters at the antioch marina. He is currently being charged with six felonies and facing life in prison if convicted. This morning nurses at the Summit Medical center will walk a picket line to protest recent layoffs and program cut backs. They announced if plans to lay off 358 employees and close a Skilled Nursing facility. The hospital says the cuts are necessary to return all debates to financial health. Nurses say the hospital is already short staffed and the layoffs will negatively effect patient care. The nurses are scheduled to picket today from 10 30 a. M. To 1 00 p. M. They still dont know why a 12yearold boy opened fire at his middle school injuring two students. He shot and injured a 13year old girl and 11yearold boy. Both are still in the hospital. A teacher ran up to the boy and convinced him to put down the gun. It breaks your heart to see these kids have to witness this. A vigil was held last night for the two students that were shot. There are reports that the student that carried out the shooting was being bullied at the school. And he may have warned some students not to go to school yesterday. He faces a charge of Second Degree murder. He is accused of arguing with the victim chad olson about texting in the theater. Olson threw a bag of popcorn at the thief and shot him. 4 45.
