Freezing inside a locked suv in quincy, in plumas county. Thats where huntsman and curiel had recently moved. Their cause of death has not yet been released. Redding police say they have determined the childrens deaths occurred outside of Shasta County and the investigation would be turned over to the Salinas Police department and to the District Attorney in monterey county. The head of monterey countys department of social services told the San Francisco chronicle that despite those four home visits, his Child Welfare investigators could not establish a substantial risk to the children that would necessitate removing them from their home. Prosecutors have not filed charges against huntsman and curiel in connection to the deaths of the children and theyve not yet entered pleas to abusing the 9yearold system. The pair is set to be arraigned january 7th. Are they going to stay in the redding area or be moved to monterey . There is outrage in baltimore after a judge declared a mistrial in the case of one of the officers involved in the case of freddie gray. Demonstrators took to the street. William porter was the first of Six Police Officers to face charges in grays death. Jurors deliberated for 16 hours then said theyre deadlocked on the charges against porter which included Involuntary Manslaughter and reckless endangerment. Baltimores mayor urged demonstrators to keep the protests peaceful. If some choose to protest, they must peacefully demonstrate. That is their right. But i also want to be very, very clear about any potential disturbances in our city. We are prepared to respond. Grays death sparked massive protest in baltimore in april. Gray suffered a broken neck and severe spinal cord injury while riding in the back of a police van and died a week later. Prosecutors could decide to retry that case. The San Francisco Police Officers Association Says the men and women on the force need stun guns. Their demand comes in the wake of the Fatal Police Shooting of mario woods two weeks ago. Reporter standing in solidarity, members of the Police Officers association backed Martin Halloran who said its time for San Francisco to get stun guns. Taking a human life is the last thing any Police Officer desires. Reporter halloran says tasers could have prevented the killing of mario woods december 2nd. Officers used bean bag rounds, pepper spray, and other tactics before shooting woods who was carrying a knife. These officers were put in to an impossible situation and 8 seconds of video does not dictate the entire incident. To better understand the training that officers undergo in dealing with situation wheres the suspect is wielding a knife, officers told ktvu about this Youtube Video used at please economies nationwide. It shows how quickly a person with a knife can attack even if the officer has a gun. Halloran pointed to 700 studies that show tasers work, saving 150,000 lives to date. Sfpd has asked twice for its officers to be equipped with tasers in 2004 and 2010. In spite of the overwhelming factual evidence, our proposed solution has been twice rejected by individuals who chose to play politics with public safety. Reporter in response to the woods case, chief suhr has supplied them with riot shields but halloran says officers arent ready to use them because theres no training available. Members of the Tactical Division has searched nationwide to find an agency in this country that uses shields to disarm a suspect with an edged weapon. It doesnt exist. Reporter also in effect, a bulletin that went out last friday, informing officers if they draw a gun on a suspect, they will be required to report it as use of force. I do not want to see any of my members hesitate to do what theyre doing as long as theyre in policy. Reporter the policy change was in the works four months ago and other departments like Oakland Police have implemented it. Police in el cerrito are searching for the adopted daughter of a woman whose remains were found stuffed in to a garbage bin. Investigators say she shot and killed her adoptive mother, mary, then hid her body in the garage. Police received several reports about the missing 90yearold. Their investigation led them to a home on leneve place. A search of the residents led to a discovery of the victims remains on december 2nd. Police believe the victim was killed several months ago. Whenever i see her, she always say hi. If you need help, shes going to say i can help you with anything. When i heard about the gunshot, i didnt even heard anything. An autopsy revealed mary had been shot several times. Investigators say her adopted daughter alisia made comments to neighbors about traveling to arizona or Southern California before she disappeared. Shes described as a heavy set women, 58 who dresses in masculine clothing. Police believe she may be working in the cleaning industry. Walnut police say both suspects in a drug Lab Explosion have been arrested. 34yearold Daniel Burgess surrendered and was released on his own recognizance because of a medical condition. William brown surrendered to police today. Both men face charges from an explosion and fire at a townhouse in october of last year. Police say the explosion was caused by butane that was being used to make hashz oil. Burgess and brown were severely injured. A bay area man has been indicted on a federal charge for an incident involving a reclining seat. On october 18th, 54yearold Lawrence Wells allegedly choked and punched a woman who recleaned her seat in front of him. Wells is charged with assault causing great bodily injury. The flight had just taken off for Los Angeles Bound for San Francisco. The pilot declared an emergency and returned to l. A. X. And wells was pulled from the flight. Now to los angeles where students returned to school today after emailed threats of violence in los angeles and new york. Officials say the threats turned out to be a hoax. Los angeles schools were shut down though for security sweeps but New York Schools never closed. New york officials determined the threats were a hoax right away. They say the author of both emails claimed to be a muslim jihadist but spelled allah with a lower case a. The New York School system was identified by the wrong name. In los angeles the superintendent says he shut down all 900 l. A. Schools out of an abundance of caution. And at least one parent said she is glad he did. I think that was the right decision. Because a lot of parents would have been very worried if their kids were here at school so i felt better that i was able to take her home. Some are calling the l. A. Shutdown an over reaction. The superintendent says the threat made reference to bombs, weapons, and other destructive devices and after the paris and San Bernardino attacks, he didnt want to take any chances. A warning to safeway customers after skimming devices were found at bay area stores. As henry lee reports, the devices could put your credit or debit card numbers in the wrong hands. Reporter skimming devices at safeway, an Online Security blog, had reported that the illegal devices had been found at several stores in the bay area. That means when you swipe your atm or credit card through the machine at the checkout stand, a skimming device is capturing your account numbers and pin numbers. Initial reports stated Safeway Stores at Castro Valley and menlo park had been affected, but in a statement today, safeway said the illegal device husband actually been found at stores in dublin and walnut creek, and that no credit or debt card data was compromised at those two locations. Phu nguyen and chi ung were caught from sheriffs deputies who heard the car description. There was a lot more than the nob hill heist inside the car. The problem began on december 2nd at costano Elementary School. The school found a leak in a gas pipe and the gas was shut off. No one was hurt but the pipe hasnt been fixzed yet and the school has put small space heaters in each classroom. Students say theyve had to wear heavy coats during class. Walking through the classroom myself, some are comfortable but there are some, we still have to keep our jackets and scarves on and thats not okay. The principal says the heaters worked well until this week when the temperatures dropped. Repairs are the responsibility of the district which says repairs will be done over the holiday.
