San jose, northbound 101, 280, all the freeways are off to a good start. Lets go back to the desk. San Francisco Police shot and killed a gun man outside a hospital. Officers say he was pointing a rifle at the building. Ktvus allie rasmus is live from San Francisco this morning. Do police have a motive at this point . Reporter if they do, they havent told us. But at this point, its not known what the motive was for this mans actions. They dont know yet if he had any ties to Saint Lukes Hospital or any connection to any of the people inside. This started around 4 00 in the afternoon yesterday when police say the man climbed up a freight elevator at this construction site right here behind us that sits right next to Saint Lukes Hospital. This is a picture of the man described by police as being in his late 20s and wearing white cover alls. Police say once the man got to the top of the elevator he fired one or more shots towards Saint Lukes Hospital. He had at least two firearms on him. One he had stolen in an Armed Robbery earlier in the day at a Sporting Good store in san bruno. The craziest most bizarre experience ive ever seen in my entire life. Ive heard of gunshots in neighborhoods and stuff like gang shootings and stuff but never like a full on sniper inside of a building shooting at people. Reporter police say they tried to approach the gunman once they arrived at the hospital. And according to police, the man then aimed the gun at them. Three officers responded by opening fire, striking and killing the gunman. Again, we dont know the identity of this man. And again, we dont know the motive. What caused this man to do this. Those are things that investigators are still working on. One thing we can tell you is that no one else was hurt in this strange incident. All right allie. Thank you. The chp believes two freeway shootings in a week in the east bay are connected. The most recent shooting happened late tuesday night on interstate 80. Someone pulled alongside a man and a woman and opened fire. The man died while the woman survived. The first shooting happened eight days earlier in san pablo. The victim was hit but survived. I drive 80 whenever i need to go somewhere and to think that whether im targeted or not that somebody while driving would come up on me and shoot me. The chp is not releasing descriptions of the get away cars or suspects but investigators believe the shootings are gang related the chp says it will increase patrols along interstate 80. In the city of redding, someone stole all of one Shasta County sheriff deputys weapons. Someone broke into the deputys car between monday night and Tuesday Morning the thief stole a 35 caliber semiautomatic handgun and a rifle thats specially made for law enforcement. The thief also took the deputies duty belt which includes handcuffs, pepper spray, a baton, and a hand held radio. Investigators are now looking into whether the gear was properly stored and secured. A former inmate is showing us injuries he says he suffered as the hands of correctional deputies hes now suing the county. In his complaint he says two deputies severely beat him last july. Garcia says he suffered permanent nerve damage to the right side of his face. He was being held for a misdemeanor drug offense and complained about having to wait hours to be processed. He says it was the death of fellow inmate michael in august that convinced him to come forward. I could hear the blows. I could hear michael screaming please stop hurting me. Please stop it. Please stop hurting me. Please. Garcia says he waited to file the lawsuit because he feared retaliation. Three deputies face murder charges for his death. The guards arent the same ones garcia said beat him. Police in the south bay arrested two men accused of trying to assault three people in the parking lot of a neighborhood park. The Police Department says the two men approached three people in the parking lot of blossom hill park on sunday afternoon. One of the men they say had an ax and began swinging it toward the three people. The other man had a knife and tried to stab them. The three people were able to get into their car and leave without being injured. Police located the two suspects later because they were also being investigated for stealing cars. The faa says three different jets report being hit by laser beams near dallas last night. A Southwest Airlines flight and a Virgin America flight coming from austin into dallas reported the incident. The pilot after a business jet preparing to land at the same airport made a similar report. No one was hurt but laser beams can make it difficult for pilots to see. The faa sent officers to see if they could find anyone in the area where the laser beams were coming from. But they were unsuccessful. Anna is pushing for changes after noise complaints focused at sfo. A recent change in the flight paths used by jets increased noise levels in neighborhoods as far away as santa crus. Its designed to standardize arrival and departure routes used biplanes. Shes written two bills that would require the faa and epa to look at noise levels when making changes. This next gen program has not only created problems in our region, but in other states and other regions in the country. So were not the only ones. She says that the faa has heard the complaints. Shes been told that the agency is working on a plan to address the problem but that theres no word yet when that plan could be made public. In an effort to level the Playing Field between Taxi Companies and ride sharing companies, san jose is now considering easing tough regulations for taxis. It all follows a twoday strike. They are upset that the city eliminated a fingerprinting requirement for uber and lyft drivers. The mercury news says the city council will consider ideas on how to de regulate taxis next week. They include using a similar vehicle inspection process for taxis and issuing temporary permits for drivers while they go through a background check. Time is 4 37. Part of San Franciscos avenue will be closed once again this weekend as crews continue to construct a pedestrian tunnel. Its says to be closed all day tomorrow, saturday, and sunday. Its scheduled to reopen at 11 59 sunday night. This is the fifth and final scheduled closure. The general contractor is scheduled to complete construction of the tunnel. The tunnel will connect the future california Pacific Medical campus with a medical building thats also under construction. Its 4 38. That fire is now fully contained but it started about two miles from the reagan president ial Library Early last night. Cal fire was called in to help battle the fire after strong winds pushed it into the area. It burned more than 40acres. But no buildings were threatened and no evacuations necessary. Mr. And mrss mr. And mrss of americans are being effected by a strong weather system. Heavy snows and tornadoes are being reported. I checked with steve, this is remnants of what first passed through now making its way across the country. Nebraska state pole reported more than a dozen accidents involving vehicles sliding off icy or slushy roads. Colorado was hit with several inches of snow making conditions treacherous on the roads there. And the massive system dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the rockies. We got seven inches of snow over night. But its clearly still snowing so were looking at close to a foot at this point. Copper mountain. A lot of people enjoying there it looked like behind her. Mean time the warmer side of the weather system did bring thunderstorms to parts of the midwest. In oklahoma, 50 to 60 Miles Per Hour winds caused grass fires to burn out of control. The flames could be seen jumping roads and threatening homes in parts of the state. The storm system is expected to continue moving east and it will impact parts of the ohio valley and new england later this week. Quite a storm so far. Time is 4 43. Legendary San Francisco entertainer carol has died. Shes credited with helping to revolutionize americas attitude toward adult entertainment. But as ktvu ken wayne reports, she did much more than that for the city. Long before the slackers and techys. When the beatnik scene was being replayed with hippies. They were holding on to their vibe. Carol was a young waitress at a club when her boss came up with an idea. I go upstairs and i put this on and i noticed. I said this is a strange costume. So i go down and i said you know, i dont think i can wait on tables any more. Because they wont be grabbing the change. Theyll be grabbing me. The costume had no top. Singing from the top of this piano descending from the ceiling baring her breasts she was an instant sensation. It was spectacular. The whole thing was new. So it was great. She was very personal even then. Even when you didnt know her, she was nice to you. In short order she and other dancers were arrested for indecency but the judge throughout the case and carol was back on stage. She was known for dancing but passionate about singing. Her popularity prompted a neon likeness of her outside the condor with strategically placed flashing red lights the sign has been removed and its now on the wall. He was on hand to dedicate a plaque in honor of americas birthplace of topless and bottomless dancing. Her name is bronze. For a time, she was the spokeswoman and commentator for tv 36. Later she opened a lingerie shop on union street giving him a sense of her wicked humor. You dont have no knock everybody out with it. If somebody got in my way, these are weapons. I could kill them. I swear. Along the way, she rubbed shoulders with blue collar customers and celebrities and was a huge raiders fan. Carol was very close to ken and he put it out that she was to be respected. And carol kind of garnered that any way. Until recently she was a regular catching customers off guard. They would be in awe. It was an amazing thing. Shes a living legend. And were going to miss her. She was the sweetest lady you could imagine. Somebody wanted her autograph, she would go outside and get her pictures and come back in. Really a sweet girl. That was ken wayne reporting. Carol was 78 years old. Her cause of death is reported as kidney failure. A memorial is planned in north beach on november 22nd. A canadian skier survived a 1600foot tumble down a mountain in alaska and his fall was all caught on video. You can hear. Thats him. Ian mackintosh crying out in pain as he tumbled down that incredibly steep mountain. This happened while he was shooting a film. He fell into a five foot trench, lost his footing. Mackintosh says as he was falling he deployed an air bag that helped cushion his blows. In the end of the video he can be heard saying im okay. Unbelievable first of all hes incredible shape. A nurse with the paulo alto va hospital is under arrest after police say he tried to break into his neighbors homes in san jose while dressed in full military gear. Shannon lime climbed on the roof of his townhouse complex on bautista place yesterday. They say he was carrying an Assault Rifle and knocked on several neighbors windows demanding to go inside. Residents then called 911. Police say when they arrived he pointed his rifle at them. Officers shot at him. But he wasnt hit. I laid down on the floor in the living room. I didnt want to get hit by a stray bullet. I heard the shot that hit right here. First thought, intruder, howd he get up there . Whats going on . A scary situation there. Wong was eventually arrested and booked in the Santa Clara County jail. They dont know why he was dressed in military gear or what he was planning to do. Police are looking for the person who crashed a drone into a popular attraction. A drone hit the great wheel and then crashed into the upper deck of the fishermans restaurant on pier 57 and hit a table. It left a big hole in the table. It narrowly missed hitting people. Employees say they didnt find damage to the wheel but they stopped operations to inspect it just in case. Seattle police are examining the drone and trying to figure out who owns it. Its a nofly zone. So whoever was responsible, im not sure what will happen. But everything is fine. Operations are continuing as normal. This is not the first time theres been a problem with the drone in downtown seattle. In june, one drone knocked a woman unconscious during the pride parade there. That drones operator is facing wreckless endangerment charges. An aircraft that could simulate missions to mars is being tested. The glider could sore 90,000 feet above the earth. Itd be the first time human haves been that high without an engine helping control their flight. A toll plane has to take the glider up but once its released it comes back to earth on its own. It has to be as strong as any other aircraft that goes that high. Right now tests are being conducted on the ground to make sure small changes in movement dont destroy the aircraft. The frequency resonates with the air around the aircraft. The aircraft can disintegrate in seconds go from normal flying. Change speed a little tiny bit faster. The crew says because the glider doesnt have its own engine it can be towed up to the sky and take readings of aerosols or ozones that would be more accurate than measurements we have now.
