A violent car crash happened late last night in antioch. It is under investigation. Ktvu, allie rasmus is in antioch now. You say construction work in the area may have played a role in the crash. Reporter yes. This happened on a street, north of the highway 4 offramp. At this hour you can see quite a bit of traffic as vehicles make their way onto highway 4. When this happened it was around 10 00 last night. This is what was left of the mangled a black honda involved in the red. The driver of this vehicle had to be extricated by fire crews and was rushed to the hospital. We do not know his condition this morning. Dispatcher say a second person involved in the crash was also hospitalized although it is not clear which vehicle that person was in. Reports say the honda may have crashed into a construction cone vehicle in this area. There is a lot of construction going on here with the highway 4 expansion and the bart expansion. The Construction Company vehicle was apparently involved in the closure last night. Short time ago we spoke with one of the workers from the company. Officers said so far that a 27 yearold man was walking across lanes of traffic when a car hit and killed him. He suffered from severe autism and had been missing from a group home. Community leaders are planning a vigil outside the Mission Police station in San Francisco to protest the Deadly Police shooting of a young immigrant from one imola. The group is called, faith in action and it said it once the da to release the investigation into the shooting. The victim was shot and killed by plainclothes officers in february. Initially police said he lunged at officers with a knife but autopsy reports show he was also shot in the back. The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office searching for a suspect in what they first thought was a carjacking but that has changed. Bryan hill is described as being a 43yearold man, six foot three inches tall weighing 280 pounds. He has close cropped hair and a goatee and has tattoos of musical symbols on his neck. San jose state said it has hired a chief diversity officer after a disturbing episode on campus. Kathleen wong lau will lead the Schools Office of diversity, equity and inclusion beginning in july. Her appointment comes weeks after three former san jose state students who were white were sentenced for a misdemeanor battery on their africanamerican roommate in 2013. They were accused of taunting him with racial slurs and putting a bike lock around his neck. They were sentenced to 30 days in jail to be served on the weekends plus probation and community service. A Blue Ribbon Panel investigate problems at the Santa Clara County jail is issuing recommendations. One is that the sheriff be removed from overseeing the jail system. They had made their recommendations to the county. They include ones that should happen immediately. Create an Inspector Generals Office that would have access 24 hours a day to the jail and have the power to investigate complaints. They also say they grievance system used by inmates should be overhauled. They also ask for more transparency and fairness in the process used to discipline officers and they want to reform the administration of the inmate welfare fund. The Commission Said having someone new to supervise would be the biggest change. Continued supervision of the jails by the sheriff is not in the best interests of the inmates, the correctional officers, or the community. Sheriff laurie smith said shes been behind some of the recent changes and would like to remain as a supervisor of the jail system while more reforms take place.
