But at the bay bridge its busy and backed up for a 25 minute delay. Part of the reason is they had to close the bridge briefly westbound to get some debris. Every minute that bridge is closed come even if its for a couple minutes, they start things off on a slow foot. Things are probably going to improve. The westbound bay bridge, 20 minutes before you make it onto the span. No major problems. Also looking at interstate 880. This looks good as you pass the coliseum. If youre heading south to hayward, its not bad. The east bay commute, not a lot of red on the road sensor so far. Northbound 85 at 237, we continue to have a crash blocking one lane and traffic is beginning to build on northbound 85. Unfortunately, you can use a different route. You can use any other freeways to get around instead of 85 into mountain view. Maybe stay on 101. It would be better for you. Lets go back to the desk. Four people are hospitalized after a serious crash in oakland on redwood road off of highway 13. Alex savidge is at the crash scene. You are looking at pictures now. It took firefighters more than an hour to rescue one victim. Alex . Reporter right. That was the driver of the car who firefighters say was pinned behind the steering wheel. Rescue crews literally had to cut this car apart. This is a dark colored bmw sedan. You can see it on the lefthand side of the road with its hazard lights on next to the tree. That this tree this car slammed into a. This rescue operation took about 90 minutes to get the driver of this car out. There were a total of four people inside this car when it crashed early this morning. Two men and two women. Two were able to get out on their own but one man and one woman remained trapped. Firefighters had to rescue them. This happened around 3 30 am on redwood road. The car was apparently going quite fast when the driver lost control. We spoke with a Security Officer who was the first to arrive after this accident. I heard the impact. I went down the hill and saw the vehicle on its side. It was pinned up against the tree. We had a i held the meal claim out of the vehicle. Healed there were three more trapped in there. There were flames coming out of the engine compartment. There was nothing more i could do but dial 911 and culloden. Call it in. Reporter firefighters it took them some time to rescue two people inside the car. They had the most serious injuries, critical injuries according to the battalion chief. The other people who were able to get out of the car on their own were also hospitalized this morning. There will be an extensive investigation throughout the morning as to the cause of this crash. At this point police cannot say whether drugs or alcohol may have played a role. Its important to note that redwood road is shut down entirely just off of highway 13 next to crestmont drive. This investigation will be going on for quite some time into this very serious crash this morning. Alex savidge live in open. Three people are recovering following a kitchen fire at googles Developers Conference in mountain view. Harry mccracken posted this photo of the fire. This happened at shoreline amphitheater where google is holding its annual threeday conference. Reportedly three event Staff Members who were not google employees were taken to the hospital. People were attempting to grab him but he kept pulling away. He got away from three. I tackled him. Once i tackled him i notified an offduty officer. He came out and assisted me along with one other person. It was an assumption that he was drunk. I worked in security for 25 years and im not a doctor but i know what alcohol does. Ive seen it for 25 years. That was not alcohol. Investigators say rojas had two prior dui arrest. Police that he initially tested negative for alcohol yesterday. Friends of rojas say he has not been the same since coming back from active duty in the navy. Rojas told the police he was hearing voices. The penalty phase of the murder trial of Antolin Garcia torres will continue on monday. The defense will present its case. The prosecution wrapped up yesterday with emotional testimony from sierra lamars parents. Maureen naylor was in the courtroom and said many jurors and Court Observers teared up listening to the testimony of sierras mother. Watch for slow traffic. You cant get through on niles canyon road. Ever recommend 680. Stay on the freeway to get around. You may have to go the long way around which is an inconvenience but this morning is better than it would have been on a wednesday. Lets look at the south bay. Northbound 101, traffic is a little slow after the 280 interchange. Northbound 85, an accident at 237. The backup seems to have gone away although the crash is still there on the shoulder. This is a look at interstate 880 north and southbound. It does not look bad if youre traveling to the bay bridge toll plaza. It has been crowded from earlier minor issues on the bridge but the metering light came on early and thats the way the whole thing started. 2025 minute delay. Lets go back to the desk. Early this morning, a suspect was rushed to a hospital after a terrible crash. This happen on interstate 880 and fremont. This began when Police Spotted the man driving more than 120 miles an hour with his headlights all. Christien kafton explains what happened and shows us more of the car. Reporter the on ramp has now been reopened as you can see. Investigators say this crash happened on the southbound offramp. The vehicle crashed, tumbled to the dirt and brush more than 200 feet before resting on the on ramp side. That should give you a sense of how much speed we are talking about. More than 120 miles an hour at times. We do have video from when we first arrived on the scene around 4 am. Before so that crash ejected the driver from the sub. We arrived in time to see the ambulance pull out and had to an area hospital. According to chp the driver was unconscious but still breathing. This started with an attempted traffic stop because the driver was speeding and driving without his headlights on in the san lorenzo area. That driver took off when authorities try to stop him, heading southbound on i880 with speeds in excess of 120 miles an hour. Chp said he then try to get off at the fremont boulevard offramp and was going too fast for the off ramp and tumbled out of control. The vehicle ended up going off of the offramp and rolling through the dirt grass area. The vehicle ended up on the on ramp to southbound 880 from north fremont boulevard. The occupant was ejected from the vehicle. Reporter at this point there are a lot of questions. That car is registered out of tennessee and was not reported stolen. It is unknown if the driver was the owner of the vehicle. The driver had no wallet and no identification on them at the time. At this point investigators are trying to determine the identity of the driver. At this point, no update on his condition. Christien kafton, ktvu fox 2 news. Last night the Advisory Council at city college of San Francisco voted against recommending the Campus Police officers be armed with guns. Right now the Campus Police officers have been utahns and pepper spray. The Campus Police chief wanted them to have guns, teasers and body cameras to better protect students and themselves. Critics worried theres not enough training in the use of deadly force. While the Advisory Council voted against arming Police Officers, the chancellor can make her own recommendation to the board of trustees and they will make the final decision. A 19 would woman at the center of a sex scandal involving Police Officers from a number of departments testified in court for the first time. And 16 formerly known as celeste guap took the stand in the case of a former Oakland Police officer. Brian bunton is accused of tipping her off about police stings in exchange for sex. A judge ordered him to stand trial following her testimony. She testified about how officer bunton came to her hotel room where she was working as a sex worker and they engaged in sexual acts and he then proceeded to tell her and give her confidential information about Police Undercover stings that were going to take place. There never was an undercover operation that he disclosed, that he had made it up to keep her off the streets on a cold, rainy, winter night and that there was no revealing of sensitive Law Enforcement information. Former officer bunton is due back in Court Next Month to enter a plea. The state has approved what are considered the toughest standards in the nation for refineries. The new rules near the industrial safety ordinance now in effect in Contra Costa County and they include more accountability by refinery owners and also gives production line workers the authority to shut down unstable units. The new regulations were spurred by a large fire five years ago at the chevron refinery in richmond. Six workers were hurt while fumes from the fire made more than 15,000 residents in the area sick. In the meantime you can use mission boulevard or 670 680. Lets look at the commute were traffic in the south bay is not too bad. We do see slowing on 101 your capital expressway and near 280. On the peninsula traffic looks okay. 101 is clear from San Francisco to san bruno to the airport and down the peninsula. 280 looks good from daly city down to san bruno and beyond. This is across the bay on 880. Traffic looks good. Its a mixed bag today. Some commutes feel lighter than normal. Other commutes are full strength like this one, the bay bridge, it is a 20 minute delay before you make it onto the span. There are no problems on the span. My eyesight is very good, sal. The uc board of regents settable implement recommendations to improve the way the president s office prepares budgets following a recent audit. The state auditor addressed the you see board about recent findings and administrators have 175 in funds. They have agreed to recommend recommendations to improve transparency and project policies. Sump students protested yesterday saying they are upset they will pay a 2 tuition increase while the uc president has millions of dollars in a secret bond. The regents approved the on outofstate students. Most schools will not be allowed to have more than 18 nonresident students starting in the fall of 2018. Four campuses including uc berkeley and ucla have between 22 and 24 from outofstate. Those schools will keep those percentages but will not be allowed to increase them. Here is another heartwarming story. A man from lafayette to had a heart attack at the Oakland Airport in february had the chance to thank the four nurses who saved his life. Stephen and susan kerschner road reunited thursday with the people responsible for saving stephens life. Its wonderful to meet them. To actually see them. And its truly remarkable they were there and did what they did. Reporter minutes away from boarding a southwest flight to seattle in february to see his 99yearold mother, stephen and his wife made a lastminute decision to cancel their flight and leave the airport after stephen became very ill. We walked outside to get the car and thats when he collapsed. Reporter only two minutes passed before the nurses with Kaiser Permanente walked up having just returned from a business trip in las vegas. We crossed the street where we werent supposed to and thats where we saw stephen on the ground with his head in his wifes let. Reporter and then my four angels arrived and took over. They literally took over. They started compressions immediately. And then eventually asked for the defibrillator. Reporter at that time, deputys arrived with a defibrillator or aed machine. Since his recovery, stephen is defying the odds and functioning as if nothing ever happened. A testament to the quick and organized response from his four angels. Its a beautiful thing. Very overwhelming. None of us have experienced Something Like this before where we see our work come to life in front of us like this. Its definitely a great feeling.
