They were searching for a suspect in a deadly shooting. Investigators say that Kyle Matthew Amos shot and killed a fairfield residents last wednesday in a parking lot. Detectives were searching a home last night looking for amos. The s. W. A. T. Team was brought in as well. Stefan and james street was closed off near highway 12. People were told to keep their doors and windows locked. Police a that amos fled just before they got there. He is considered armed and dangerous. Police called off the search just after 1 00 this morning. The shocking case now out of ohio where an 18yearold woman used a periscope app to live stream a man sexually assaulting her 17yearold friend. Police say the two young women were hanging out with a 29year old man when the man began sexually assaulting the 17year old. The friend used periscope to broadcast it on the internet. Someone in another state saw the live stream and reported it to police. Now the man and woman face charges that could earn them prison sentences upwards of 40 years each. 7 10. Authorities investigated several fraudulent tax returns filed under the names of Stanford University employees. The daily news is reporting the Schools Department of Public Safety received at least 30 reports from University Employees saying they were victims of fraud and i. D. Theft. Now, they were first alerted about it through letters and emails from the irs saying they had filed tax returns when they never did. 7 10. Back to developing news from japan. There has now been a strong after shock to that earthquake that hit southern japan this morning. The after shock was 5. 4. It struck an hour ago following that initial magnitude 6 earthquake. We have highlighted the epicenter for you. The quakes were centered near the east china sea. Thats a city of about 70,000 people. And the pictures and the video coming in on social media. The owner of a san jose body shop and several others have been charge a special Task Force Said it uncovered the scheme. Janine. Reporter gasia, some of the businesses involved are located right here on kings row, and authorities are saying that they staged car accidents. Now, this all stems from an anonymous tip back in 2012 after they alerted the silicone valley Auto Insurance task force. They found a group of people involved with kings row. Investigators say the owner of carlos body shop, Carlos Velasquez ortiz and six other people filed 20 false insurance claims. They involved older model luxury cars such as mercedes and bmws. Because the value was higher, the payout was, too. We have evidence to suggest that the accidents never occurred. It was coordinated lies for the purpose of getting paid out for the insurance claim. Reporter the Task Force Says the Group Reported crashes along highway 17 and through Santa Clara County after buying insurance policies using fake names and addresses. The District Attorneys Office says Insurance Companies including progressive and farmers were tricked into paying 140,000. Now, that trickles down to the consumer because insurance premiums end up rising. The ringleader of the group is facing Serious Fraud charges up to 31 years in prison. Thank you. All right. The deadline to file taxes is monday. Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren wants to make the tax filing deadline easier. Its the tax filing simplification act. It would make the irs responsible for calculating how much tax each American Household owes. She says the irs gets most of the forms like w2s and 1099s that are mailed to taxpayers. Warren wants the irs to send a letter how much you owe. If you disagree, you would respond. She says the average american spends 13 hours and 200 having them done. It says there are fewer bullies in schools. The Education Department says the rate of bullying among kids between 12 and 18 years old dropped to 22 in 2013, down 10 from four years earlier. The Education Department credits that too antibullying campaigns at the federal, state, and local level. Also, parents, schools, and students themselves are working together against bullying. Also a new study that says woman who exercise while they are pregnant may help their babies become physically active adults. Researchers at Baylor University conducted an experiment on two groups of mice. One group was allowed to run on a wheel during pregnancy. The other was not. The mice born to mothers that were exercising were 50 more active than those mothers who didnt exercise. Their physical activity continued into adult hood. Time is 7 22. New this morning, a new video leased by the Boko Haram Terror Group nigeria appears to show some of the school girls kidnapped two years ago. In is the first time the girls have seen since this video in may of 2014. Parents of the 15 young women shown in the new video say they recognize their daughters who have not been heard from since the mass abduction in april of 2014. The kidnapping of the girls triggered the social Media Campaign and bringbackourgirls involving michelle obama, many celebrities and others. New this morning, the government of panama raided a law firm accused of money laundering. That lasted more than a day at the headquarters of the firm, but there not been any arrests made so far. The socalled panama paper scandal came to light when an anonymous source released 11 million documents that embarrassed clients of the law firm, including vladimir putin, the president of argentina and the father of david cameron. Now the government of panama is looking for evidence of wrongdoing. The most important thing is that the Public Ministry of panama is carrying out investigations. It is important for us to verify whether or not there has been a crime and in this sense the investigation will continue. The people accused say they have done nothing wrong, but protesters rallied out the law firms offices saying the entire episode makes all of panama look bad. The republican candidates are on the campaign trail. What happens if no one gets enough delegates by this summers convention in cleveland to win the nomination . Donald trump says whoever has the most delegates at that point should be the nominee, while ted cruz and john kasich hold out hope a contested convention could work in their favor. Cleveland, i believe, if its contested, i will have a ton of delegates. He will have a ton of delegates. And in that situation were going to be in the much stronger position. We see some slowdowns. This is as good as you could except for a morning commute in the Silicon Valley. Its not a nightmare commute, as we had a couple of those last week. 7 34. Back to the desk. There are protests this morning here in the bay area at around the country calling for a 15 an hour minimum wage nationwide. Ktvus alex savidge live in San Francisco. We have been watching the demonstration underway as he make their way down market and we are thinking also about the California Law that raises the minimum wage here over the next few years. Reporter yeah, thats the interesting thing here, is that they are holding these dem stations, part of a nationwide series of protests here in california. But just earlier this week Governor Brown signed a bill into law that raises our states minimum wage to 15 an hour or will raise it to 15 an hour by 2022. Still though the protesters, folks taking part in this demonstration today, they say they want to see the same thing happen nationwide. Thats why today here in San Francisco they took aim at mcdonalds. A couple hundred people pushed their way into a mcdonalds on Market Street. They carried signs and chanted. This is part of the five for 15 campaign. A series of protests going on in 300 cities nationwide. Organizers are calling for better pay and union rights for workers everywhere. After they took over that mcdonalds on Market Street, demonstrators took to the streets and they marched down market with Police Officers Controlling Traffic at the same time. San franciscos supervisors david compose and aaron peskin also joined in this mornings demonstration. This is not the end of the fight for 15 protests here in the bay area. There will be a couple of others happening today. One of them will be at 11 00 a. M. This morning at the mcdonalds on story road in san jose, and then later this afternoon at two in the afternoon there will be a similar protest in oakland right outside of city hall, again calling for the minimum wage to be raised to 15 an hour across the country, even though governor brunn has already decided that is what will happen here in california over the next few years. Guys. So, alex, last time we saw you they were marching and chanting. It was very loud behind. Is the protest over . Whats the situation with the marchers . Reporter this is where the protests began. We followed them for a little ways down Market Street, but then we had to get back here to this original location to where we were parked, frankly. And i understand they are still on the move. They have a couple of other locations they are going to in the downtown San Francisco area. We are going to try to catch up with them now and see where they are. Tensions flared at a town hall meeting in San Francisco where police and Community Members clashed over the recent Police Shooting of a homeless man who police say was holding a knife. Dozens of angry people packed the union hall. Thats where 45yearold luis gongora was killed. The officers say he was holding a 13inch knife and wouldnt put it down. Surveillance video caught the moments prior to the shooting. Some say he was lunging at officers with the knife and others say the knife was in his waistband and police over reacted. You are telling people this is what happened. How can you say, that, chief, when the investigation is ongoing . Reporter friends say gongora was homeless when he was evicted from his apartment. They believe officers should have spent more time de escalating the situation. Police say this wouldnt have happened if he dropped the knife. Time is 7 38. The Group Justice for Mario Woods Coalition want an investigation of San Francisco police. Coalition members stood on city hall steps yesterday saying the deaths of mooreio wards, perez lopez are examples of police use of excessive force. They say an independent investigation is needed to determine if there is a pattern of discrimination within the department. In a letter, the state attorney general point today a new set of painted pointed to a set of racist texts. We cannot have a criminal Justice System that is tainted by racism that can be accepted by the community and can be won that works. The letter says a review by the Justice Department is a step in the right direction, but it still is lacking because it only provides nonbinding recommendations. The fbi has joined the investigation into the disappearance of a toddler whose mother was found dead in a San Francisco park last week. The fbi now says no one has seen twoyearold Arianna Fitts since april 1. Federal agents met with San Francisco police just yesterday to help with the investigation. Police say fitts and her daughter spent time in San Francisco, san mateo, santa cruz, oakland, and emeryville. 7 39. Happening today barts board of directors are expected to reconsider a plan to punish seat hogs on crowded bart trains. This proposal was tabled last month. There were concerns about penalizing people who you take up more than one seat when trains are empty. If its approved, the rules would now apply only during weekday commute hours and warnings must also be given before citations are issued. Violators could be fined 100 and up to 500 if they keep doing it again and again. Well, lyft is launching its Lyft Line Service today in silicone valley. This service matches passengers heading along similar routes. Puts them in the same vehicle. Lyft line is also launching today in san diego, in denver, philadelphia, seattle, and newark, new jersey. Lyft says those are some of the Fastest Growing markets. The Company Recently started another Service Called lyft carpool. It allows commuters to match up to share rides to work. Well, the head of a major Movie Theater chain says he is considering letting people use their texts during a movie. His goal is to get millennials to go to the movies the way their parents did. We are live here at the amc imax theater in newark. The relatively new ceo of the theater chain said he is trying to cater to a Younger Generation of moviegoers. He said he is willing to try out the idea. In an interview, the ceo says he thinks millennial could be better served. He said when you tell a 22year old to turn off their phone, dont ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You cant tell a 22yearold to turn off their cell phone. Thats not how they live their lie. Options are having certain sections of the theater where a cell phone is allowed or having the entire auditorium or theater text friendly. He would like to see millennials go to the movie and theater with the same intensity as bay bridge baby boomers. People dont like the idea. There is enough of that already. People want to enjoy the movie and have that experience of going in the dark and seeing a huge screen and a wonderful story or whatever it is they want to see. Kids are too much on their phone already. They dont need it in the Movie Theater. They really dont. He says those types of programs typically draw in more people to the theaters. But its a talker as we take it back out here live. The Motion Picture association of america, these are the latest statistics from 2014, they show that box always sales were down 5 than the previous year, which was obviously 2013. Nice, but on the cool side. A sheriffs deputy in houston, texas, was shot by a man in what authorities call an unprovoked attack. He was at a Convenience Store leaning into a patrol car talking to another deputy. A man fired six shots. Four hit the deputy. He was wearing a protective vest. He is expected to recover. Authorities are questioning a man who went to a nearby fire station after the shooting and matched the description of the gunman. This is not the first time a sheriffs deputy has been targeted in houston. You may remember last august another deputy was shot and killed at a gas station. He was shot 15 times, in fact. Deputy Darren Goforth was putting gas in his patrol car when he was shot. Authorities called that shooting unprovoked. Time is 7 47. Asiana Airlines Offering 3. 5 million to the city of San Francisco to settle claims from that deadly plane crash at sfo three years ago. A boeing 777 was trying to land july 6, 2013. State lawmakers are changing a bill that would have required almost all High School Athletes could be screened for a concussion. Now its a Pilot Program that would include three school districts. The test program would rupp for four years run for three years. High School Athletes would be tested at the beginning of the year and tested again. Any time there is a possibility of a concussion, and those results would be compared. It would also require any athlete to sit out a game or a practice after a concussion. The cdc now says there is enough definitive Scientific Evidence to prove the zika virus can cause babies to be born with severe brain defects. It causes microcephaly. Investigators in the south bay say auto body shops making false Accident Claims are pulling in thousands of dollars. Janine de la vega is live in san jose to explain who is involved. Janine. Reporter gasia, it was apparently the owners of several auto body shops here on kings row. This is an Industrial Area of North San Jose where 880 and 101 connect. Authorities are saying they purposely damaged cars. The Silicon Valley Auto Task Force got a tip back in 2012, and that led them to kings row. Investigators found that the owner of carlos body shop and his wife along with seven other people had filed 20 false insurance claims. The Task Force Says that the Group Reported fictitious hit andruns in Santa Clara County and crashes along highway 17. They would damage luxury cars like mercedes and bmws so the payout would be higher. People may think that the victims in this case are the insurance carriers. That they are out the money. In essence, its the to cost them to investigate these claims and i dont want to pay higher premiums. I am sure nobody does. Reporter when fraud happens, costs often trickle down to consumers. The District Attorneys Office says Insurance Companies, including progressive and farmers insurance, were conned into paying 140,000. The group is linked to operation coffee break. Another investigation last july. Thats where 33 suspects were arrested for staging accidents and filing false claims. We had an accident that was this one came in westbound a few minutes ago some i dont so we had some lower traffic on the lower deck of the bay bridge. I dont see anything. We will keep an eye on that new crash on the upper deck. Westbound had begun to get better here at the toll plaza. Look at the 880 ramp. Thats always a good sign. If there is a crash westbound 80 on the bay bridge, we will have to look at this backup one more time. And on the peninsula it looks pretty good. No major problems here as you are driving into the city. Now traffic is going to be okay on 101 from, lets say, san mateo. A little slow in south city. Southbound 101 slows menlo park and palo alto. Back to the desk. There were rallies hear in the bay area and around the country this morning about boosting the paychecks of minimum wage workers around the country. Its part of the fight for 15. Now, about 100 new york protesters rallied in times square demanding minimum wage hikes as well as union protection. You see the pictures here. Rallies are being held in several cities demanding a nationwide 15 an hour wage. This is here in the bay area. A few hundred people pushing their way into a mcdonalds on Market Street in downtown San Francisco. You see them with signs and they were chanting. Just this week Governor Brown signed a bill that will raise californias minimum wage to 15 an hour by the year 2022. Protesters say they are marching in solidarity with workers around the country. And for other issues facing minimum wage earners also. After taking over this mcdonalds, demonstrators took to the streets, marched down Market Street protesting at other businesses. Well, with the affordability crisis in francisco, that will help some folks possibly afford some of the rents in the area and say stay in San Francisco. Another protest is planned for 2 00 this afternoon right outside of oakland city hall. Shocking case out of ohio now where an 18yearold woman used a periscope app to live stream a man sexually assaulting her 17yearold friend. Police say the two young women were hanging out with a 29year old man when the man began sexually assaulting the 17year old and the friend used periscope to broadcast it on the internet. Someone in another state saw the live stream and reported it to police. Now the man and woman face charges that could earn them prison time of upwards of 40 years each. At home tensions flared where police and Community Members clashed over the recent Police Shootings of a homeless man who police say was holding a knife. Dozens of angry people packed a union hall yesterday. This is close to 18th and shot well where luis gone gore owe was killed by two officers last thursday. They say he was holding a 13 inch knife and wouldnt put it down. Surveillance video caught the moments prior to the shooting. Some witnesses say gongora was lunging at officers with the knife. Others say it was in his waistband and police overreacted. You are telling people this is what we think happened. How can you say that, chief, when the investigation is still not its ongoing . They believe officers should have tried to deescalate the situation. Police say none of this would have happened if he dropped the knife. The family may pursue legal action against the city and police department. The Organization Justice for Mario Woods Coalition, they want a civil rights investigation of San Francisco police. Coalition members stood on city hall steps yesterday saying the deaths of mario woods, amilcar perezlopez, and alex nieto, they are examples of excessive use of force by the police. They say an independent investigation is needed to uncover if there is a pattern of discrimination practices within the department. In a letter to state attorney general pamela harris, they cited racist and homophobic Text Messages between Police Officers publicized by the district attorney. We cannot have a criminal Justice System that is tainted by racism that can be accepted bit community and can be one that works. Now, the letter says a review by the Justice Department is a step in the right direction, but say its not enough. It only provides nonbinding recommendations. The fbi is now joining in the investigation into the disappearance of a toddler whose mother was found dead in a San Francisco park last week. The fbi says no one has seen twoyearold Arianna Fitts since april 1. Her mother nicole fitts was found dead in a park last week. Fitts and her daughter spent time in San Francisco, san mateo, santa cruz, oakland and emeryville. In the Central Valley thieves are using high tactic methods to steal truckloads of nuts. They were hit six times last year. It cost them more than 1 million. Nut prices are a valuable target. Thieves use fake shipping papers to drive off with truckloads of nuts. They could be worth up to a half Million Dollars per load. Well, happening today barts board of directors expected to reconsider a plan to punish seat hogs on crowded trains. This proposal was tabled last month. There were concerns about penalizing people who take up more than one seat when trains are empty. If its approved, the rules would apply only during weekday commute hours and warnings have to be issued before a citation can be issued. Violators could be fined 100, and up to 500 for repeat offenses. Well, lyft is launching its Lyft Line Service today. They are doing it in Silicon Valley. Service will match up passengers heading along similar routes and put them in the same vehicle. Lyft line is also launching today in san diego, denver, philadelphia, seattle, and newark, new jersey. Lyft says those are some of the Fastest Growing markets. The ridesharing Company Recently started another service thats called lyft carpool. It allows commuters to match up to share rides to work. Back to a controversial move thats meant to attract young people back to Movie Theaters. One of the major movie chains may soon let customers send a text while a movie is playing. Nonetheless, the ceo of amc Movie Theater chain says he is trying to appeal to a Younger Generation of moviegoers and he says he is trying to appeal to the idea perhaps of having text friendly theaters. In an interview with variety magazine, ceo adam aaron says he thinks millennials could be better served at a theater. He told the magazine, and i am quoting here, when you tell a 22yearold to turn off the phone, dont ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You cant tell a 22yearold to turn off their cell phone. Thats not how they live their life. End quote. He says perhaps having certain section of a theater why texting and using a cell phone is allowed or having the entire auditorium or theater text friendly. He says ideally he would like to see the millennials go to the thats right with the same intensity as baby boomers do. Whether that happens or not, another story. People we spoke with simply dont like the idea. And i think a lot of kids, they are so used to being entertained and quick, quick, quick, quick, quick, that its hard for them take them too museums. New this morning a new video released by the Boko Haram Terror Group nigeria. It appears to show some of the school girls kidnapped two years ago. Its the first time the girls have been seen since this video back in may of 2014 showing about 100 of the girls. Now, parents of the 15 young women seen in the new video say they recognize their daughters who havent been heard from since the mass kidnapping by boko haram in april 2014. The Education Department credits that to antibullying campaigns at the federal, state, and local levels. Also parents, schools, and students are working together against bullying. And there is a new study that says women who exercise while pregnant may actually help their babies become physically active adults. Researchers at Baylor University conducted an experiment on two groups of mice. One was allowed to exercise on a wheel during pregnancy. The mice born to mothers who exercised were 50 more active than those mothers that did not exercise. Their physical activity continued into adult hood.
