Delegate. Last night, a story from bill clinton about his wife. Thank you so much for joining us here. Sal castaneda, mike mibach, Gasia Mikaelian here with you. And bill clinton was playing the reversal and being the spouse for his wife. And telling what many thought was just a wonderful story and he is a story teller and we heard it last night. Its interesting he was slotted for 30 minutes he went just a little over that. Failed to mention a couple of key events about what the public knows about the clintons. We start in san leandro. And we start with a truck crash. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash. Alex sadvidge has been on the scene all morning. Reporter the chp still cant say why the driver lost control of his truck this morning. But the driver was killed in the fiery wreck. Heres the tanker that is still on its side on the side of 880. This crash happened on the northbound lanes. This is north bound 880 coming down on the davis street exit. This happened about4 00 this morning. This truck just turned into a fire ball. For some reason, the truck veered off the road, hit a concrete divider and caught fire. The trucker could not get out of his truck. Although we should point out that at this point, all four lanes of north bound 880 are back open here but you still have a clean up happening on the side of the road here. So obviously thats slowing traffic just a bit. I did talk with a chp sergeant a short time ago about what may have caused the driver to lose control this morning. Theres no indicators of a vehicle being involved yet. And theres no indicators of break application or anything like that being applied before a collision. Often when this occurs it could be someone falling asleep or having a medical issue. As far as this specific collision is involved. Its too early to say. The driver of that tanker truck who was killed in this crash has not yet been identified by authorities. This person worked for a motor Oil Processing company out of san jose. The name of that company not yet being released at there point. Well bring you back out here to a live picture. You can see they have one of these big tow trucks on the scene. Theyre trying to clear all the sections of this tanker truck from the side of the freeway. Now all northbound lanes of 880 are back open. As you might be able to tell here. Both the off ramp davis street and the onramp from davis street on northbound i880. Those two ramps remain shut. This is a Hazardous Material situation. So theyre going to have the special crew come in to clean up this particular area because you had a lot of the motor oil that was inside that tanker truck and the fuel from the truck that soak into the ground. It could take a good portion of the day to get that cleaned up you guys. Alex sadvidge that did cause a lot of traffic on 880. As we did mention, history was made last night in philadelphia as Hillary Clinton became the first woman in the u. S. To be nominated for president by a Major Political party. Clinton officially won the nomination during a roll call of states. At the end, senator Bernie Sanders asked that clinton be declared as the nominee by acclamation. Bill clinton gave a speech about his waoeufp calling his wife about the best darn change maker i know. What an incredible honor that you have given me. And i cant believe we just put the biggest crack in that Glass Ceiling yet. Hillary clinton will appear tomorrow at the convention to accept the nomination. With us this morning is professor of political and Legal Communications studies at San Francisco state university. Welcome back. Great to see you. Good morning. The former president talked about the portrayal of his wife. One is real and one is not. One we were talking about is the real one. What did you think of his story telling but also kind of his weaving in of her resume throughout the speech. In speech writing, ive been a speech writer in the past. You have stories and your meal ticket. Go through things and check off someones resumes and click off the box. And last night was mostly exposition of narratives, stories. Many years ago, the stories he was telling were actually also told in a video that bill clinton used in the 1992 Democratic Convention produced by the same woman who made this program called designing women to tell the story of clintons life. Its called a place called hope. Its been seen a million times. All the stories that he told were people that he told in his life. These are stories people tell about their families. I know we all have stories about our families. Including me, my daughters birthday is tomorrow and were having dinner and she wants to tell the story of her birth. And its the value of those kind of things the narratives. Bill did a great job with that last night. Bill clinton in trying to humanize and to perhaps enlarge peoples perspective of Hillary Clinton as a human being. I was going to say is that his job to humanize her. Because lets face it both candidates trump and clinton have a long way to go to make people seem that theyre human. Theyre candidates but he was trying to just tell her story. Is that his job now . It is. That was one of his jobs lets put it this way. Because a lot of peoples attitudes toward mrs. Clinton are set. But for people who dont know her very well its good to have an insight perspective of her. And one that is lovingly told. Your other question about his responsibility, its to guard a defense in the criticism of her. Every time he told a story of her last night he punctuated each of those stories with another episode of she created this program for children or this program for disabled people or this program for health care. And this state, and that state. And that state. A lot of states. Laundry listing and what he was doing was building a resume. The trust of this schematically. And hes basically saying we know what the problems are going to be whether its bengazi. You can consider those line ups or you can look at the totality of our service. It outweighs. Thats the argument theyre hoping will overcome peoples objectives to her when theyre comparing her to mr. Trump. Bill clinton did not bring up anything about the monica luwinsky scandal. Are you surprised about that and do you think that he will bring that up. He did make a reference to difficult times in their marriage. You can portray it as you may. Everybody who remembers all that was thinking of those things. Im watching this time line tick closer to the late 90s and then gets over it and and skips over it and keeps going. He is being criticized for not talking about terrorism. Should there have been a little bit of that sprinkled . Thats a very good question. Given what happened yesterday. A horrific thing at that church to have not observed something about it or referenced it sort of created the impression that in the convention were in a bubble and were not paying attention to whats going on in the outside world. Terrorism, were talking about International Politics is on everybodys mind at this point. I think thats what the criticism is. I think youre going to hear that tonight from joe biden and president obama. Donald trump seems that his convention needs someone to humanize him. Do you think they will evidently start doing that. If i was giving donald trump advice, i would put yvanka trump out there every day because shes the best speaker for that family. Shes very engaging and appealing to a different demographic than her father is. Thats i think their secret weapon. We even got a dean stream in there. Coming up on mornings at 2. A mothers attempt to discipline and embarrass her daughter goes viral. What theyre now saying about this incident after millions saw their video. We will also talk about your responses to what we see. 9 13 checking stockings. The dow is down by 0. 16 points. Just slightly the nasdaq. You were just checking the stock of San Francisco based twitter, its down 15 . Well talk more about that. The mother of freddie gray is speaking out after it was announced that all charges are being dropped on police. His mother says she still blames police for her sons death. There had already been four trials but no convictions and one officer was scheduled to be in court today. State Attorney Says she Still Believes grays death was a homicide. She now faces a lawsuit by police. Defense attorneys are scheduled to react to the prosecutors decision later today. Now to a story that people might find shocking. A georgia mother and her daughter are in the middle of a video that has gone viral. The mom found out that her daughter had posted what she considered an inappropriate photo with her boyfriend in a towel. Were going to show you a small part of that four minute video but a warning. Some people may find this video disturbing. You want to no. You want to be on facebook right . Huh, thats what you want to do . No. Later in the video you see the mom screaming and hitting her daughter a number of times. The mom reportedly decided that since the daughter embarrassed her on facebook she would postthe video of her daughters punishment on facebook. This started a conversation about corporal punishment. Some say the mom should be charged with child abuse. She responded, i love my daughter with all my heart. Whatever happens after this, oh well. My daughter is not going to disrespect me. Her mother later posted, i embarrassed my mama, so i she embarrassed me. I know in the future to keep my business to myself. It is also our kt vu question of the day. With police now getting involved in the incident we want to know from you. Does this cross the line into a criminal act. Even though she is a minor shes 16 and having sex i wouldnt go as far as a criminal act but its wrong putting it online. Mrs. Lala styles says i feel if she didnt do that her daughter would have done way worse. So i see it as tough love. 18 by the bay says physical punishment is never okay and putting it online is shaming. I wonder if facebook put the video down. I think it now lives on you tube. Someone else is filming the mom attacking the daughter. So you just have to cycle back and think she asked a friend or a relative hey im going to do this help me out. And then, confronted the daughter. I have to tell you i wasnt able to watch much more of the video than what we showed you on the news. So well keep talking about it throughout the day. Reading your responses on twitter with the hash tag ktvu and on the ktvu facebook page. Switching gears and last hour we have learned that one person has died in connection with that wildfire burning down in monterey county. Janine de la vega is live. Have we learned anything about the person that has died. We know this happened overnight. Calfire tells me that this was a bulldozer operator that works for a private contractor. And he was here working on the sobranes fire. We dont know if it was actually a male or female but were told this bulldozer operator rolled over his dozer then died as a result of those injuries. Theres about 60 bulldozers working on the fire. Were here at the red cross temporary shelter set up for evacuees. When i told them the news of course everybody here was very saddened to hear. The fire has burned 23,000 acres and its still only 10 contained. There was a lot of fire activity overnight in the los padres forest. Calfire says that two more homes were destroyed so the total of homes destroyed is now at 22. That has a lot of homeowners worried in the Carmel Valley and surrounding area and many of those communities have been forced to evacuate. 2,000 homes are still threatened. We spoke to one man here at the temporary shelter who has already started moving his possessions in case calfire tells him to move. Of course weve been on edge. Its very upsetting to know that fire could come and destroy your home and all your possessions and its a very upsetting situation. The wind keeps changing direction and the low humidity, heat and steep terrain are a challenge for fire crews. Theres more than 3,000 firefighters on the ground and many contractors like these dozer operators who are cutting through the brush and making roads for fire vehicles. Theyre also making containment lines to stop the fire from spreading. You can bet that this deadly accident is going to be talked about. Calfire is going to be talking to their crews. Of course emphasizes safety and that sort of thing. Were hoping to get more information throughout the rest of the morning to give you an update at noon. Janine de la vega reporting live. Coming up here on mornings at 2, the group is appealing the decision to move forward. Yesterday we sat down and talked live with one of the members of the Mission Bay Alliance as to why theyre opposing it. Up next, were live with one of the representatives of the warriors. As a reminder heres something she told us about the groups concerns. There are no excuses for noncompliance with the zoning. Theyre putting this project in an area that it wasnt zoned for. They havent changed the zoning. They havent dealt with the traffic issues that are going to cause the City Residents millions and millions of dollars. And they havent dealt with other issues relating to noise, air quality. This morning were getting the other side from warriors spokesperson p. J. Johnson. P. J. Is it true that this area is not zoned for putting an arena right there . No its not. And i did watch the interview yesterday and unfortunately theres a lot of inaccuracies or half truth there. The fact is that whole area the Northern Mission bay area was zoned in the late 90s and ucsf and the university was the anchor tenant but it was also invisioned to become a real neighborhood. A neighborhood that would have not just bio medical researching facilities and hospitals and medical supplies and things like that, but restaurants and night life and dry cleaners and coffee shops and cafes and housing. So all of that has been slow to come. This particular site was actually slated for Office Development by sales force. It was on the marketed for a few years and the warriors bought it. It is compliant with the earlier planning process. What she left out is that was found to be the case by about a half dozen regulatory agencies. The cities planning commission, the board of supervisor, both unanimously voting in favor to uphold the cir and then just last week the superior court upheld it as well. So theyre in the extreme minority on that opinion. It took me half an hour to get out of the as parking lot on saturday night after the game. You cant tell me there wont be any impact. Traffic is an issue all over the bay area. It has to be addressed locally in San Francisco but also throughout the region. I think most of us who have been around City Government for a long time believe public transportation, mass transit options are probably the best key to this issue. The intermoe dad variety of uses whether its pedestrian, bicycling, a big push on mass transit is going to move people to warriors fans, whether its in the east bay or San Francisco. Are the warriors going to step up and help. One of the things that was left out of that description is that its not the taxpayers who are going to have to foot the bill for the 40 million of up front transit improvements in that area. Thats on top of the project itself. 25million for affordable housing. The idea is to integrate this multipurpose venue into an area that frankly has been growing for decades and its not just the warriors that are moving into this area. The whole south eastern corridor of San Francisco is growing with residents. It needs some vitality. When the plan was put in place we built a third street light rain. This arena will have a light rail stop at it door. Do you have an idea why the opposition continues and after all these defeats you would think they would say, okay we fought the good fight. Why has that not. Thats been a bit of a mystery. Weve been going through this for some time with the board. They assigned as a super pack. I heard if question yesterday whos paying for this process. It is millions, millions on our side and the warriors are paying for that. And its millions on the other side and we dont know whos paying for that. Theyre hiding the sources of whos paying for this because we believe its a handful of people who are interested on that property. Their key executive director made a mistake. He told the San Francisco Business Time that the real motivation was to grab that land back and develop biotech businesses there. Since then theyve never let him go back to speak to the media himself directly. But i think it showed us its really a land grab. Its not all about these other issues. Transportation and traffic is a legitimate issue. Its a legitimate issue if you build anything in this region. Pj johnson thank you for coming and talking to us here on the 9. This is what you get at 9 31 in the morning. Yes that is Lenny Kravitz doing a sound check. You know shes 56 years old. How is that possible. He looks great. Rocking every step of the way. Just one of the people taking the stage tonight. In addition to president obama, Vice President biden. Hillary clinton made history in becoming the first female nominee of a major u. S. Political party. Again, lets look ahead to tonights speakers. President obama, Vice President joe biden. With the San Francisco chronicle, joe good morning to you. Good morning to you guys. How are you doing. Were good. Before we talk about tonights speakers lets talk a little bit about last night. Do you think the democrats here at this convention are just strictly playing to the base or are they reaching out trying to get others to come on board . Theyre trying to do a little bit of both. First of all they had to mend the fences within the family. Within the democratic family. It took a good step into that last night in the last 48 hours in terms of bringing the sanders people on board. Thats going to be a process. Itll be happening and theyre trying to in terms of reaching out thats taking the shape of trying to reintroduce Hillary Clinton to the rest of the country. Her husband bill clinton did that last night. With an address that played very well in the house. I asked people on social media how it played out at home. Everyone over 35 knows their history. When he starts out recounting their court ship. I dont know felt like an awkward moment to me. I tell you it killed within the house. It was pin drop silent there. In your piece this morning, you eluded to the fact that many people in that arena were very emotional. Because this is the first time a major party has nominated a woman. And you spoke to many of these people. Tell me what they were saying. People were crying, i was standing right in the middle of the california delegation when you know, the acclamation senator sanders said lets just call it a night. And give her the nomination by acclamation. People were crying, people were you know hugging each other. Mostly women but also guys. Theres a guy that said its about time. I think thats the feeling of many people of that generation. But also younger women. Where one woman told me im crying so much i cant even cheer right now. It was a very emotional home for many in the room. Lets push ahead to tonight. Tim kaine has been criticized for being too nice. What do you expect to hear from him tonight . Geez the guy has a very tough task. He has to go on after arguably two of the better speakers in the country. Joe biden and president obama. So his work is cut out for him then. He will be the anthesisis of those two. He is almost found human the way he talks. Hes a very real person. I mocked him as being boring. But after seeing him on saturday in this initial roll out speech. Im softening on that. I think people will come away with the fact that he is theres a likab ility about him. Kind of a joe biden decency to him. Oscar grants mother was there last night and was on stage speaking with other moms who have lost their children to violence or Police Officers. A powerful moment but there are some conservative analysts who are criticizing, Police Officer widows were not on stage. That could have been a very powerful moment. We want to ask you how it went off inside that house. Inside the house it was very well received. Again very solemn moment. Very quiet and respectful as folks were talking. There were chants of black lives matter when they came on. This is a very difficult line for the sort of the main line Democratic Party to thread. They wanted in the same honoring the pain and suffering that these families have endured. They also want to be respectful to the police. And also the police shot in the line of duty to them as well. But we didnt see that last night. I was talking with attorney general camala harris yesterday and she was talking about how she when victims of parents of crime victims would come in and see her when she was a da here in oakland, often they just wanted to cry. They just wanted to vent their feelings and share their pain. And i think that moment last night was sort of a communal sharing of pain and thats what that was. Its important to do. Its tough to pull off in a Massive Convention setting but it was a pointiant moment. Is this the first time youve been on the 9. Once, i was calleded in to cover a storm. I took a walk outside to get an idea of whats happening. You forget its just out there. You can walk to the coffee shop. You went outside. Its a big establishment for me. I was talking about hot temperatures especially inland. The fog hugging the coastline. We have. As a result the spare the air alert issues. If we did not have that fire burning to our south we would still have this but that fire is hadding adding some smoke thats drifting to the bay area. Outside the fire zone this is big sur 66 degrees. Humidity levels up at 62 62 you can see the wind direction. Whats very interesting here. You have the terrain. You have the fog huging the coastline. Then you have completely different story yes very hot temperatures in the higher terrain. You have temperatures soring back into the 90s. Almost two different worlds. The valleys in the 70s. Winds will pick up this afternoon. Theres the fog bank hugging our shoreline and current temperatures updated for the 9 00 hour. Some 70s already. 81degrees. Already warming up. San francisco only in the 60s. Still lots of triple digits. Your five day forecast your heat remains inland in the thursday forecast then by friday into the weekend well gradually cool things off as the fog comes to the rescue. We missed the fog. It comes back and we will fully embrace it. The man who is set to assassinate Ronald Reagan is set to be released. John hinkley jr. Has been allowed to return to live with his mother. He was placed in a mental hospital. Right now he is 61 years old. Michael reagan one of Ronald Reagans sons tweeted this in response to hinkley jr. s release. It reads my father did more than say the lords prayer he lived it in forgiving hinkley jr. Maybe we should do the same. And thats from mike reagan. Oakland voters will decide whether according to the San Francisco chronicle. The the other four members will be picked by committee. The independent commission will replace the city review board and would have more power including separately investigating. We told you about a pick up basketball game between a couple of teenagers in oakland. Thousands of people have been viewing these videos online. And one teen was so touched that she came up with a gesture herself. I love playing basketball thats all i think about. Reporter you may remember malik mcfarland. He and his cousin challenged the officers to a game of basketball. It all started with a question, do you play. From that one moment it changed everything for malik. Its crazy. Its like i would never have thought that me asking him and they agree to play with me would happen. But it did happen and the good times in the court have now brought more good will. Robinson saw our story and noticed that the equipment was very old. So robinson who is on assistance and feeds the homeless and stray cats, went on ebay and bought them new equipment. I didnt think that no one would actually recognize how our court looked and the fact that somebody came out of their way to get us a court was amazing. So thank you. In oakland, henry lee, ktvu fox 2 news. Awesome. Coming up on mornings on 2. We know a big problem among many of them including teenagers. There seems theres a lot of ballot measures in stpraapb. San francisco. Can you tell us about a new one that would have the city pick up the tab. There was actually a very big turn out yesterday at city hall. This was organized by friends of the urban forest theyre trying to throw their support behind a move to have the city pick up for trees. There are dozens of 40 to 50 foot trees that have to be trimmed every three years. Many of those homeowners are apparently on fixed income and they just simply cant afford that. So the fear is that those people will either injure or chop down those trees. Now this particular legislation was put forth by supervisor scott weiner it hits the ballot come november. Its a 19 million a year proposal so well have to see what happens, back to you. Well see what happens in november. Tar a thanks for checking in. Our next guest was the second woman to medal in judo. Now shes preparing to head off to rio. Before that marty joins us live on the 9 this morning. Thank you for joining us. We just saw a little demonstration of your power. Im backing up a little bit. Im going to be over here. Shes standing on an apple box this tall. Youre a tiny little thing but packed with power. Most people who train with me or fight me always say that youre so powerful but its misleading because its so small. But my weight category is about 125 pounds. Where did you dive into this . I started doing judo on a navy base in wouby island. And i started winning right away so i never stopped. You have a coach thats legendary. Can you talk to us about how he inspired you. My coach yogu chita hes now 96 years old. Hes still there every single day on the mat pushing us, teaching us. And one thing i learned was hes going to go to rio and watch me fight and im so excited. He went to london, he was a famous photo of him in the crowd wiping the sweat off his brow after i won the gold. Are you more frustrated because you were so close to getting gold or did you walk away saying, i have established something which is getting the bronze model. I never thought i would accomplish a bronze. I always thought i would accomplish a gold. I had an awesome day. I came back. I had a couple of overtime fights and there were times where we were really unsure if i was going to make it to the medal round. Losings in the last fight was so disappointing. Who did you lose to . I lost to the romanian girl in the last six seconds. She ended uptaking a silver. So the semi finals put her in the final, she lost. I went to the losers bracket and i went to the bronze and won against the competitor from beijing. Do you plan to continue doing something related or are you starting over . Yeah absolutely. I have been in love with judo since i was 6 years old. Im going to go one more year for judo. I plan on competing in the 2017. Because alongside an olympic world medal i have always wanted to be a champion. And tell me about your pain, because you say theres some days you cant put the toothpaste cap off. Im actually really thrilled because im at the end of the peak of my training for rio. Im actually at the end where i get to taper off so im so happy and smiling every day because when i get out of bed i feel a little better every day. You get down there and you get to crush it. Yeah. Before you show us your stuff i have to ask. Weve heard concerns about the accommodations in rio. Any concerns about zika. The usoc has been keeping us up to date. They said weve hired a crew and were making sure you guys are perfectly comfortable when you get in there next week. So i understand youre going to provide a little judo demonstration. This is my teammate and boyfriend, david torrez. Lucky man. Thanks for coming in. What move are you going to show us here. I was thinking i would show you my favorite throw which is the one i win most of my competitions with. The throw is called igo moenage which is one arm shoulder throw. So i whether just do it as fast as i can. This one is called ogoche which is big hip. So you stick your hip up front. When do you know youre going to throw that in. Its completely in instinctual. I guess you guys dont argue at home because it would lead to some rough okay lets go to the next one. Good luck to you in the olympics. Go get that gold. I will, i will. Youre awesome. Yeah.
