Supply this weekend. Hot air supply. Especially in pleasanton. Not just the far east bay. Its much of the bay area. Folks living in the inner bay area will be warm as well. Its really as steve was talking about. Just the folks directly on the coast who might feel some Cool Temperatures this weekend. Inland temperatures expected to hit triple digits this weekend. Some spots could be about 20 degrees above normal. We have ktvus christian captain braving the warm temperatures at this point. Theyre warm at this point. In walnut creek. And youre talking to people about their plans for this weekend. The best ways to beat the heat. And ways to beat the heat, hey, guys, im wondering if we can get steve to hit the pause button right now. I think 72. We can agree that 71 should be fine. We could all do 71. 71 is nice. Keep in mind, that would have been a High Temperature last weekend. Now this is just sort of the beginning point. The jumping off point for this weekend. You can bet guys, triple digit temperatures, its going to get hot. Weve been talking to folks in walnut creek about their plans to keep cool when it gets hot. Meanwhile, there are all ready some concerns out there about temperatures this weekend and the very real possibility that we could see fire danger out there as well. Weve been talking about that fire danger. As a matter of fact, vacar was out there. I think tom vacar was out there yesterday talking about that heat. And we have those tips now. Do we have those tips . The vegetation can catch the house on fire. The house can catch the next house on fire. And it just keeps rolling through the neighborhood. Especially under extreme conditions. Okay. So those arent the tips that people are looking for for trying to stay cool in the hot temperature. Instead, thats one of the firefighters who was out there yesterday talking about that. Were talking about that very real danger about the possibility of fire in the bay area. As we all know, we had that super wet winter. That means lots and lots of vegetation that grew. So the tip now, if you are going to be out trying to weed, trying to create a Defensible Space around your house, ive been telling folks, if youre going to be doing that, be sure to stay hydrated, put on sunscreen, take it easy out there. I think 71 degrees sounds good. Triple digits might not be the perfect time to get out there and rake and cut and all that yard work. And you do need to be careful with those kinds of temperatures. Christian, i know you and i both spent sometime living in arizona. When it gets above 100 like that, you have to be careful being out in the heat for an extended period of time. Hydrate. And sunscreen and hats and all of the above. Rosemary is tracking the temperatures. Were talking about triple digits in a large part of the bay area, theyre a possibility. Away from the coast. Everybody will be warm. You may be rethinking the afternoon runs over the next several days. I was out there this morning. And i came back sweating. Its all ready very warm out there in many areas. Lets take a look at whats going on here. The temperature, a 20degree span depending on where youre at. Halfmoon bay, 57. 55 in San Francisco. Inland, were 78 at this hour in fairfield, 75 in concord. In the south bay, 72 san jose. Closer to summer, the summer like pattern often means were cool at the coast, warm around the bay, and scorching inland. Heres a look at the 24 hour temperature change. 8 degrees in san jose, hayward, santa rosa, everybody warmer where we are right now than where we were 24 hours ago. A view of the fog, steve has been talking about it this morning. On the coast, where we have the on shore breeze and the fog, its going to remain comfortable there for the rest of us. We have a bit of on shore breeze in fairfield at 10 miles per hour. Thats not going to help us out. So for the day today and into the coming days, were talking about several days of this type of weather. At the coast, very mild in the 60s around the bay. Low to mid 80s. In our inland cities, well be nearing the century mark. And above for some. The afternoon highs expected for today, 74 in San Francisco. Low to mid 80s expected for the east bay shore line. As well as the penninsula inland, 99 in antioch. 96 in concord. 97 in santa rosa. Ill have a look at the day plan for you as we get into the afternoon. Its that type of weather. Especially for our inland folks. When you begin to strategize. You know what its like to live in the valley. And you have to get out in the morning and take shelter in the afternoon. Then youre back out in the evening. Then you look forward to that moment in the evening when you can open the windows and let cool air in. You shut the windows early in the morning before the heat comes in. Yes, indeed. You can sit outside late into the night. Ill have the extended forecast next time around. Ups workers in San Francisco are having a difficult time understandably dealing with wednesdays shooting. The shooting left four employees debt. Including the gunman. Four employees dead. Many coworkers are calling out sick because theyre frightened and grief stricken. Theres a memorial outside the warehouse where the attack happened. Sources say the gunman shot and killed fellow ups worker benson first. Next he shot wayne khan. Followed by two other drivers who were shot but survived. He then went outside and killed a third victim, mike. Its rough for us. Its like being in that type of a situation. And then seeing people that you work with on a daily basis. And then theyre gone. The three victims are being remembered as friendly and dedicated workers who gave back to their community. Benson was a popular volleyball coach. A group of his players went to that warehouse memorial yesterday to honor him there. A motive for that ups shooting is still unclear. But were learning more about the gunman, jimmy lam. A senior ups driver says lam suffered from depression and was sad in the weeks leading up to the shooting. He was involved in a dispute with an exgirlfriend about visitation rights for their child. Public records show lam was arrested twice on dui charges in 2010 and 2013. A coworker says at the time of the dui arrests lam was not a driver for ups. But instead was loading and unloading packages. Happening today, the two men charged in connection with oaklands deadly ghost ship warehouse fire are due in court this morning. Derek and max harris may enter pleas in court today. Both of those men face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. Thats one count for each person who died in last decembers fire. He was the main tenant at the warehouse and harris is accused of helping him to sublet the space. After six months of investigation, both of them were arrested last week. Each are being held on more than 1 million bail. They could get 39 years in prison. The chp arrested three people in connection to an assault on a lyft driver by a group of dirt bike riders. The Highway Patrol released this images from an operation on wednesday morning. They served arrest and search warrants on four homes in the bay area. Authorities say a lyft driver was heading down highway 101 in San Francisco back in march when he encountered that group of dirt bike riders taking part in a side show. This incident got a lot of attention as the alleged attack was caught on cell phone video. Investigators say those bikers kicked and punched the ride share driver and broke his leg. Three people arrested now face charges including assault with a Deadly Weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime. Big Business News this morning, amazon is buying whole foods in a deal worth about 14 billion. Under this deal, whole food, ceo john will keep his job and the company will continue to operate under that whole foods brand name. Amazon has been looking for ways to expand its grocery service. We have tech expert rob joining us via skype to talk about what this deal means for both companies. Thanks for joining us, rob. Lets talk brick and mortar. Should whole foods customers expect their experience to change at all as a result . Eventually, perhaps quite a bit. Amazon will undoubtedly automate a lot of the experience. Theyll be able to order ahead of time, show up at the store to pick them up more aggressively. They can have goods delivered to their home. I would expect the store might get a tad smaller as some of the store space to be regional warehouse space. But over all, i think the experience is simply going to be faster, more automated. And probably a bit more focused on providing goods when you get there or delivery than necessarily just having to go to the store. Recently weve seen amazon making this push into the in person retail market. Opposed to the Online Retail market. Why is that the strategy for amazon . For groceries, groceries have a shelf life unlike other goods. Groceries you have to get them into the refrigerator in a lot of cases within a couple hours. Also people like to actually see the groceries theyre buying. Theyre not comfortable buying them online. Weve had a lot of Online Grocery efforts that failed to a certain extent because of that. I think they realized with groceries, they need to have a presence. Otherwise it doesnt work. How does walmart. Or does walmart figure into this with its big grocery business. But walmart is trying to catch up to amazon online. Amazon is trying to put wal mart out of business. If you look at a lot of their efforts, its to remove the reason why people go to wal mart in the first place. Walmart is their biggest competitor. If they can eliminate walmart and take over that business, that would result in their biggest growth opportunity. It sounds like the plan at this point is to keep whole foods as a company sort of in tact the way it is right now. But should ploys working at whole foods stores in the bay area, should they have concern about their jobs . Like anything else when you have a merger and aquisition, there will be changes. Certain kinds of integration, if youre in the it department for whole foods, you should probably make sure youre good buddies with your counterpart in amazon. Your it department will likely go to their organization and likely collapse. And anything with delivery or logistic, amazon will replace that with their more advanced function. However instore people should be safe for now. Thats our tech analyst, rob joining us this morning to talk about this deal between amazon and whole food. I appreciate that. More companies are letting their employees start the weekend early. Can i do this . Can i check the stock really quick . I want to pop up the dow jones specifically on this news that amazon is buying whole foods. Its a 13. 4 billion deal specifically here. Amazon stock is up 3 . But whole foods stock is up by more than 1 4 . It gained 9 this morning. Looking at this news. The dow jones is essentially flat after having losses earlier in the session. The nasdaq is down by 1 4 of 1 down all session. And s p 500 is slightly lower. Clearly investors like this deal a lot. Lets talk about how more companies are letting employees start the weekend early during the summer. The percentage of companies that offer some kind of summer friday arrangement is on the rise. According to a new survey of fortune 1,000 companies, 42 of companies officially sanction starting the weekend early during the summer months. Thats twice the amount of companies who offered that same benefit in 2015. Researchers say its easier to allow workers to duck out early on fridays because the average worker is just a text or a phone call away. Our question of the day is about this report. Do you think workers should be allowed to leave work on fridays during the summer. Yes its a nice reward or no, low productivity. We see 79 say yes. Leave early on fridays. 21 say nope. Youre worried about lower productivity. I dont think we should be surprised by that break down necessarily. Do you consider yourself a worker or a boss . And i wonder if those two, you know, groups might have different answers. We appreciate your responses. Id like to read a couple to you. I love your comments. Jen tweeted, she said my office works closely with our east coast office. Friday afternoons are usually very slow. I would love to be able to leave early. Here we have lindsay weighing in. She says i would like to see people stop complaining about their jobs and just work. Be grateful for what they have. Someone else tweets depends on how one prioritizes their workload. Most are more responsible than another. Others will continue to be unproductive regardless. I love reading your comments. Thanks so much for tweeting and facebooking us your thoughts. Well check your responses flu the day and share them at 9 30. Coming up on mornings on 2, a day of celebrations in honor of our nba champions. The highlights from yesterdays warriors victory parade and the special message from Draymond Green sent directly to lebron james. Your voice is hoarse today. From all that screaming yesterday. All eyes are on olay ultimate eye cream. Allure best of beauty and marie cl most wanted. Eyes show emotion, not your age. Olay eyes. Ageless. For so many warriors fans, yesterday was a day theyll never forget. They road double decker buses and celebrated the championship with thousands of warriors fans. Some players dove off the buses. The parade ended with a huge rally where the players thanked their fans and reflected on the past season. Its been an amazing journey. With these guys who were going to war with every single day. It means the world to me to win the championship for you guys. And hopefully we keep it going. But were going to enjoy this one. I want to keep this thing going for years to come. Being out here in this cali sunshine, every june. We champs. [ applause ] Oakland Police out in full force with help from the Alameda CountySheriffs Department as well as the hayward fire department. And the warriors announced yesterday at the rally that the team will be reimbursing the city of oakland for the entire cost of yesterdays parade and rally. Warriors coowners joe and peter made that surprise announcement yesterday shortly after oakland mayor libby gave them the key to the city. They said the team was picking up the tab for the parade as a gift to the city of oakland. We dont know the exact cause cost of yesterdays celebration hasnt been disclosed. But it will probably be in the tens of thousands of dollars. Talk about being a Good Community partner. Good for you warriors. The celebration Draymond Green took a friendly turn but it had a subtle swipe by Draymond Green at the cleveland cavaliers. Specifically lebron james. The shirt green was wearing custom made shirt for the parade on the shirt it reads quicky. Behind the text was the nba championship trophy implying that the warriors made short work of lebron james cavaliers. Steph curry had an interesting shirt. This harder to decode. It had the message made that old. That stems from one of his under armor commercials that tells audiences he was focused on winning a championship this season after coming up short last year despite a record 73 regular season wins. There were some people on the internet criticizing his play and the teams collapse in last years final. His shirt implies that he made that old as in thats old news now. Everything they were wearing. Theres messages there. Subtle messages being sent with everything. What a parade it was. You were in the middle of it all. I was in the middle of all of it yesterday as a lifelong warriors fan. Lucky to be out there with the rest of dub nation. This is a shot i took with fans. This is two hours before the parade got started. So much energy. Folks were geared up for this parade. And it was all fun. And once things got going here. Well show you another shot that i took out there. And thats me. I had to get my you took a selfie with kd. Its sort of an unauthorized selfie with kd. He didnt know he was taking that selfie with me. But he was. Now its on tv. So any way, what a great time. And lastly here, i want to show you this video. I love this moment. I was following along with coach steve kerr who has been battling incredible back pain all season long. Out for a number of games. He walks up to this woman in the crowd. She called him over and said i want to give you a hug. And they had this long embrace. It was a sweet moment. And she i asked her i said what did you say to coach kerr. She said i told him i love him and ive been praying for him to get healthy. I think it shows the amazing connection between this team and this fan base and its thats it right there. True champions. Its a beautiful moment. I know along the parade route, claudine had a chance to walk side by side with him. And she made mention of him being in pain. He said im feeling good. I want to be out. Because its that person to person. You have to get out there. And touch the fans. Thats a great piece of video. Very nice. I was glad i was there for that. If you want to see more highlights from the warriors parade, head to ktvu. Com. If you have a favorite player, perhaps you missed his speech. We have that as well, waiting at ktvu. Com. I one time in my life had a four workweek schedule. The best. If we could arrange three day weekends. The bosses are in the Office Behind me rosemary. Ill see what i can do. Time is 9 33 a man convicted of killing his girlfriend whose body was found inside a suitcase in 2010. Lee behm was convicted of first degree murder in the killing of a mother of four. The third installment of pixars cars opens in theaters today. This is my last chance. If i lose, i never get to do this again. Owen wilson is once again the voice of Lightning Mcqueen. Joining us live from pixar is the director of cars 3. Brian, good morning, how are you . Good, thank you alex. Good, good, this is your drecktorial debut i understand. Thats true. Thats true. I came here what are the challenges . I came from the story department, so aspects of the experience that i was familiar with. But i had a lot to learn in order to get caught up with all the other divisions and crafts. I imagine with doing a third installment in whats been a huge hit, besides it being your first, extra pressure . You know, you maybe want to close the door and scream for five minutes when i first heard that i was going to do this. But i love these characters. And the thing about pixar, everyones got everyones back. I met with all the directors regularly. I met with john regularly, so everybody is always pitching in to everyones films so we can make them as good as we can. Lets talk about the story line here with cars 3. So essentially, Lightning Mcqueen starting to kind of hear footsteps. There are younger, faster, more hightech cars breathing down his neck we understand and hes struggling with, you know, the fact that he maybe is not the racer he used to be. Whats the message that youre trying to convey here in the third installment of the cars series . We were looking at the story from the standpoint of, hes only done one thing in his life. He loves it more than anything else. And to be able to not do that, its like looking in the mirror when youre 40 years old and realizing im not the guy i used to be any more. What does that mean for me . I approach that from being a parent. Im not the 20yearold that left college that was going to take on the world. Im a parent now. And im looking at my own kids and my priority shift. And thats a lot of the influence in the story is coming from that. How many cars lunchboxes do you have at home . I couldnt hear that one . How many cars lunchboxes do you have at home then . I still lunchboxes . Im talking about the merchandising of the films is incredible these days. Yeah, it is. And we make fun of that in the film to be honest. We always look at that as its a compliment. You know, if we see a kid with a backpack or a kid with a toy. Its a compliment that they liked the characters and want to continue the story. We enjoy it as a compliment. Thank you very much brian for taking sometime this morning. The director of cars 3 joining us live from pixar. Thank you. Opens this friday. This sunday, lets look ahead a bit. Fathers day in honor of special fathers everywhere. Dove mens care is honoring the many different types of men who have a role in shaping our lives. One of the men taking part in that campaign is adam cline from here in the bay area. He says during high school his teacher mr. Morgan became another person he could lean on when his mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was winner of the show survivor and the manager of a homeless shelter. He joins us live via skype this morning. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. Its our honor. Tell me why you felt comfortable in reaching out to your teacher in your time of need . So actually it was mr. Morgan that reached out to me. Because shortly after he retired and he retired the same year that i graduated. We had a very close relationship throughout high school. But shortly after, i graduated and he retired, his beautiful wife connie was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and ultimately passed away from it. And a few years later, my mom was diagnosed with the same thing. Mr. Morgan was there to care for me and for thousands of other students, you know, throughout his time in high school. Thats why i decided to partner with dove men plus care this fathers day to you know pay tribute to all of those men in your life in addition to your father who have been there to care for you. Talk more about this connection. I mean a lot of people have a connection with their teachers. But i mean i get the sense that this connection you have with mr. Morgan runs very deep. Can you talk about that relationship that you have with him . And what it means to you. Yeah, i mean, when i was in high school, mr. Morgan was always my favorite teacher. And he was always there for a laugh and i could hang out in his classroom after school and talk about the books we were reading or whatever the latest viral video was on the internet. And so you know it was only after after high school that our relationship, you know, became more serious in terms of, you know, him being there for me during the darkest time of my life and he really knew what we were going through and it wasnt just me like he helped my father, brother, mom, and all of us through this really tough time. So im forever indebted to him for that. I know around mothers day we see flowers, we see cards, we see tears. We see more emotion than we can handle. But when it comes to, especially men recognizing other men, it tends to be more subdued. Do you find that problematic . Do you wish it would change . Thats what i love about this campaign is that its showing that real strength is showing that you care for other people. Its not about pounding your chest. Its about being there for others. And, you know, to me, thats what modern masculinity is all about. Is showing that you care for other people. I love it. Good message. Adam cline, thank you for joining us this morning. Fathers day is this sunday. Thank you. Good reminder. Coming up on mornings on 2 the 9. The hip hop musical that everyones been talking about for a long time. Theyre still talking about it. What do you think its about hamilton that so many people have connected with . What is it about this show . I did go to see it a few weeks ago. Its an incredibly entertaining experience. But why has it resonated so much with the audience. I think its a universal story of hunan perseverance. You know these people came to our country as immigrants with nothing and created what we now revere as this amazing government system that runs our country. And democracy and everything. So i think its a re examination of what we take for granted in our country. You know. And i think people being able to see that from a different perspective with actors of color. And with hip hop and with an accessible medium i think is special for people. You said when you joined the show it was new to you. When i was there it was like we were at a rock concert. People know every word. I imagine thats daunting. It is. But its so exciting. Theres nothing like going out to a half sold audience and muscling it out you know. Its reassuring. If you forget a line, they know it. Trust me. We have this sing along, its real out there. So you can hear that. Oh yeah. And the energy is palpable. I was actually i was at game five of the finals the other night. And its akin to that in our sort of world. The energy is just pulsing. Youre from san jose. I imagine you have a lot of family joining you at the shows. Is that added pressure when mom or dad or whoever definitely i get nervous performing for my parents. Because definitely its a validation moment you know. Its like trust me. The Student Loans are worth something. But its been awesome. I joined the company so late that season tickets had all ready been on sale here for soening lo. Most people had their tickets. It was funny. I was chiming in on facebook saying my girlfriend will be in that. Ill be sure to visit. And when the press release came out people were like youre going to be in it . It was wild. So its been really fun to be back here. Other than your parents and family, what are the best parts of being back in the bay area. In and out. In and out is a highlight. But i just love the bay area so much. The northwest in general. I love this area. And the vibe of this area. And new york at times the hustle and bustle grinds you down. Its nice to live in the suburbs for a second. Your first audition was at the age of eight. Do you have a message for children out there who i grew up thinking, i was a drama geek. A lot of people think drama is not cool. I think hamilton is a testament to the fact that it is. And now its universal. And whats funny is these albums of my fair lady and south pacific. These old shows were the music of the day. People listened to it during dinner. And they were the billboard chart number one albums. And there hasnt been anything like that since like the 70s. And now that its back into the fold i think its bringing other people back in. People are going to itunes and downloading the hamilton musical songs. Everyday. Ryan vasquez, thank you very much. Congratulations. Theres an in and out on 880 south by the airport. He know where is the nearest in and out is. Well be right back.
