On november 4th, while sleeping, the skirt sasha was wearing was set on fire. Police arrested 16yearold Richard Thomas for the attack who allegedly told police that he was homophobic. Thomas should not be tried as an adult for the attack. A notion sashas parents seem to agree with. We would say on principal that we would think a 16yearold should be tried in juvenile court. Reporter the parents concede they do not know all the facts that led to adult charges being filed against the alleged teenage attacker. New statistics tonight on hate crimes in california and a they have gone down substantially. Attorney general said hate crimes dropped 13 in 2012 compared to the year before. And since 2013, the total number of hate crimes has gone down almost 38 . There were 1,091 hate crimes, and nine930 in 2012. Developing news out of texas, four teenagers were hurt in an explosion in burleson, about ten miles south of fort worth. The teenagers have started a small fire in the grass and were pouring gasoline on it. The fire flashed burning the stein. Were monitoring the story. Well bring knew updates as they become available. Happening in the bay area, a large crowd in San Francisco is preparing to march in memory of slain supervisor harvey mill. Today marks 35 years since the supervisor and San Francisco mayor were assassinated at city hall. We were live where the crowd is about to march any minute now. Reporter gasia, there are about 200 people in front of the steps of San Francisco city hall, a number of local elected officials are also on the steps, including San Francisco mayor, ed lee, senators, lawmakers all gathering to remember what happened 35 years ago that water shed moment in San Francisco history. We had a chance to briefly speak with former state Senate Pro Tem and congressman john burton who told us about the early struggles in the gay rights movement. This changed dramatically, and back then, people werent thinking about didnt even discuss transgender issues, probably didnt know what it was. You know, thought it was a dancer on broadway, or something. Congressman burton remarked about how in the early days, San Francisco was seen as an island where there were more tolerance of gay rights but that has since spread nation wide to many communities, and many states recognizing gay marriage. But the gay rights struggle continues and that is one reason that when they ramp up their remarks, they will march up the street to the Castro District in remembrance of those early steps. Reporter this is one officers have been following for quite sometime and one that still generates a lot of anger and confusion. Its easy to see why this case is upsetting to the department because the victims include fellow officers. Today, the District Attorneys Office announced it filed six felony charges against 51yearold George Chaves for bogus parking and moving traffic violations to a charles petery of texas. A man who sued the officer after a Traffic Accident 2008, settled out of court, then two parking violations to his own attorney from that lawsuit, Steven Dougan for park nothing a handicap space parking in a handicap space. When one was asked to clarify, chavess actions were detected. If it was filed in court and the person name on the ticket could have gotten a notice to appear in court, it could have gone as far as warrant could have been issued. We want them to know we are policing our own and we take this very seriously. Chaves was arrested. Hes scheduled to appear in court and is currently on administrative leave from the department. Ktvu channel 2 news. Police in san jose continue to search continue for three suspects in a Home Invasion robbery. Officers were called to a home on angmar court near capital express way just after 8 00 this morning. The suspects broke into the home about 3 30 this morning and used duck tape to tie up the people inside duct tape to tie up the people inside. They were all bound and taped up, and then were separated into three different rooms and the house was ransacked. The victims freed themselves after the suspects left and called police. Right now, investigators are still trying to find out if anything was taken. Police were called to the same home yesterday after someone stole a couple of laptops. At least one of the suspects in todays case is known to the victims. Organizations that feed the needy every day are getting ready for a huge turn out tomorrow on thanksgiving. Ktvus rob ross live inside Saint Anthony with how the timing makes things particularly hard. St. Anthonys expected to serve some 4,000 meals tomorrow and to do that takes an army of volunteers. Right now youre looking at some of this army and theres a lot of turkey carving, several Police Officers joining in the work here, and over here, theres also people getting the turkeys ready for tomorrow. Now, st. Antons are putting anthony are putting to good use, and trying to make this thanksgiving a little more special for those on hard times. Turkeys are baking in the oven, and volunteers at the st. Anthony foundation are sorting some of the deserts that are part of the menu. More than 150 volunteers are donating their time. Among them is this high school student. You got to see another side of the city and you get to do some good to help out. St. Anthonys will be serving about 4,000 meals from 10 00 in the morning to 3 clock in the afternoon. Mille turner says she will be here tomorrow. I want to help the people out just like me.
